Thanks for the info on default, jscher2000. He worked almost exactly as I wanted and although it is not a search bar in the right corner, I'm happy. It also seems to solve most of the malware download. I am allowed to open with Word (docx) and preview (jpg). Only the pdf must be saved, but I can name and put it where I want to find easily to remove.

I'll keep your last email to refer to when I check Add-ons, etc. Thank you very much. It now seems ridiculously simple. Thanks to you and the support of Mozilla.

How to remove the malicious software that is causing the pop up ads "to go around the web"?  These pop ups appear on almost every page I open and I have bad non-kid-friendly images?  Instructions from Apple to remove the malware have not removed despite them a number of times.

Click here and follow the instructions. If you would rather not remove it manually, you can run rather MalwareBytes for Mac.

MalwareBytes is a removal tool and does not stop adware or other malware from entering the computer. It should not be invoked to prevent future incidents; Instead, avoid downloading software from sources other than the Mac App Store or Developer Web sites.

  • After the removal of the malware, I can't check for updates or download files of definition of

I bought a PC with Windows XP Professional. He has been infected with 5 different Trojan horses, a backdoor and other malicious software. I cleaned the computer but found that I can't download Security Essentials definition updates or even can I search for updates by using Windows Update.  It gives an error saying that there is a problem with the network connection. Otherwise, I can access internet and download, and the only remaining issue was when Java gave me a prompt to download a update of the skipped upward same error box. While the computer has been infected, it actually blocked access to the internet and I couldn't access it at all so I think that the malware must have corrupted one or several files somewhere along the line. Unfortunately, I don't have the original XP system disk to perform an upgrade on the spot to restore the files. If anyone has ideas on how I could fix this problem before reloading the operating system, it would be much appreciated. Thank you.

I will be reload the OS so I have my answer to this question. Please, if anyone wants to add anything don't hesitate not, but if you insist on patronising pass to the next thread to exercise your "superiority". Thank you.

You can trust in the security of any computer used until you have formatted the HARD drive & then did a clean install of Windows. Period, end of story.

Follow the instructions in this post of mine in another forum (to-the-letter & in order!) to restore your computer to a State safe & functional: http://aumha.net/viewtopic.php?f=62&t=44636

If you need additional assistance with the clean install, please start a new thread in this forum: http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_xp-system

Note: The computer must not be connected to the internet or local area network (i.e. other computers) in its current state. All personal data (e.g., banking online & passwords credit card) must be considered at risk, if not already compromised.

Wish I had better news for you.  Good luck!

  • After the removal of the malware "IE cannot display the webpage" - a user only

After removing various malware with Symantec Endpoint Protection 11, MalwareBytes 1.46 and the Microsoft Malicious Software Removal Tool, the user who received the malware (all detected instances are found on their profile or in the system restore points) can not access all the Web sites with IE 7:

    "IE cannot display the webpage."

The administrator account, or another standard account have the problem.

I tried to open IE with 'no Add-ons' when you are connected to the consumer - same result.

I have reset the Internet Explorer settings on the tab 'Advanced' Internet Explorer (inetcpl.cpl) - same result.

Once more, the other two users can access Internet without problem.

The 'user' can access the network otherwise - e-mail, drives mapped to the server, etc...

One option: delete and re-create the profile of the user in question.

But before resorting to that, is there another option?

If I deleted Internet Explorer components in his profile, would they be recreated (correctly)?

System Restore is not an option, because the troubleshooting procedure indicated that we should delete because they could just bring back the malware. And indeed, the malware has been detected in several snapshots.

  • I can't install antivirus software, because Windows XP reports that additional protector is installed, despite having removed the malware.

I followed the instructions on bleepingcomputer.com as suggested and am trying to run a clean boot using msconfig to disable all startup programs and the non-microsoft services. reports of msconfig access denied error when you try to change a service.

Suite McAfee was previously installed on this system, but is more work after that "Additional Guard" has appeared and has been uninstalled due to the failure of an attempt to reinstall. The McAfee software will not be installed successfully. AVG Free edition does not install because it indicates that the additional guard already is installled. I was able to run Malwarebytes Anti-malware to remove Additional Guard system and am unable to find any remaining files or registry keys. I scanned for rootkits, but was unable to find anything. What else could happen? More precisely:

    (1) what is causing access denied error in msconfig (I get this despite running as administrator in normal mode and safe).

    (2) If, if not in the registry, the false information on guard is running might be coming from?

Let alone msconfig for the moment. To ensure that all references to McAfee are removed, use the removal tool.

If the malware is really out of the system, and you can't always install AVG after you run the McAfee removal tool, you can try to reset the Windows repository that keeps track of security programs you have installed.

Start > run > cmd [OK]
The command prompt opens. At the prompt, type:

    net stop winmgmt [Enter]
[Answering the prompt Yes or no with 'Yes'. See the message on the stopping services].
    CD C:\Windows\System32\wbem [Enter]
    repository.old repository ren [Enter]

Exit command prompt and restart the system. Try to install AVG again. If it fails, you will have to enter back to BleepingComputer to ensure that your malware has been removed really. MS - MVP - Elephant Boy computers - don't panic!

  • How can I get rid of the malware known as Windows of custom settings?

Here we have a computer that has picked up the malware known as Windows of the custom settings. I downloaded, installed and tried to run Spyware Doctor, SuperAntiSpyware and a few others. I can't launch the software, obviously this malware prevents what he'll kill to run. Any suggestions? Thank you in advance for any help you can give.

Yes, I had tried AntiMalWare with no success. However, I had to run SuperAntiSpyware and it took care of the problem. It took 2 separate trials so he can run and clean it well. Thank you for your quick response.
