  • How can I get information on a search engine installed?

I want to see what exactly search engines I installed, for example by seeing the page add-on from the respective search engine. How can I do this?

Which does not exist in Firefox for searches on the search bar or to the plugins you have installed. Look on the Internet using a search engine if you need comments. Or on the search engines home & support pages for features and descriptions.

Details of the research that I mentioned is simply the code to make the research available and is conveniently divided into a file by search engine and therefore lists the available search engines. For example, the default is Google. Even with your plugins, they are third party definition software, but in the case of the plugins YOU have installed and selected.

You can add searches Mycroft (http://mycroftproject.com/search-engines.html) as mentioned in the article linked, and they at least kinds for most downloaded. Even if you use addons hosted on addons.mozilla.org where you will see reviews and ratings.

  • Instructions to remove the search engine do not work, the "delete" button remains grayed out check marks independently. Is there another way that actually works?

The Firefox Support instructions below do not work in version 36. The button 'delete' is never gray State asset once the unwanted/s search engine are checked for removal. I tried one at a time and in groups, it does everything just as they suggest below.

    Delete a search engine

You can remove search engines, that you don't need by performing the following steps on the search bar in the toolbar or on the page tab.

Click the search engine icon and select Manage Search Engines... to open the search engines manager.
To remove a search engine, select it from the list, and click Remove.

If you accidentally delete a default search engine, click on restore default values to recover the default search engines.

If you accidentally delete a search engine that you installed, you must re-install it.

I found the solution, the surprisingly simple. Thanks to everyone for trying, but against all the recommendations after a new analysis of malware, virus and upgrade to the latest version released on March 5, 2015... Here is the fix:

Left click on the dropdown search button, then left click on the "change search settings." Ignore completely the checkboxes as suggested by Mozilla. The text of the search engine you want to delete to highlight in blue in the Middle, click on the grey Out button below should become active. The only function of the boxes by the search engine will make them visible or not when using the search box in Firefox. The solutions proposed by others seems logical, but I learned more than 4 decades as a technician in computer science, opt for the simple solution first. Thank you all for your suggestions, this fix works for versions 36 and 36.0.01on Windows 7. I guess it should work for other OS also.

  • What is the search engine "install custom converter web search?

I downloaded Open Office. Unfortunately, I also had a 'Video Converter' toolbar, that I didn't. I got rid of it using tools. But I still have a search bar that says (in gray) "Installl converter custom Web Search". It is part of the 'converter Installl Community Toolbar (with three "L"s)". This means that even if I can't not see the toolbar, it is always LURKING in my MacBook Pro (Mac OS X, 10.7.5). How can I get rid of this?
    Thank you!

  • Why my search engine keep returning to google?

I deleted all except yahoo search engines. But now google will come up as my search engine and appears in the list of search engines. I don't want to not google. So, how can I permanently get rid of google search engine.

I deleted google several times. I've restored firefox by default several times. I uninstalled firefox to get rid of google search, then restarted my computer and reinstalled firefox from a new download. After trying all this google keeps appearing as my search engine.
Hope you can help me to get rid of google.
    Thank you

When you change the search engine using the icon beside the search bar, which should "stick". Don't you think that it changes randomly, or the next time you exit and restart Firefox or notice any other model?

For problems that occur when quit them and restart Firefox, see:

    • Consider if use you any utility or security software (e.g. Advanced SystemCare) who have a function like "Surf Protection", "Protection of the Home Page", etc.. • Search engine continues to change the logo of firefox with 'Search The Web' and takes me to different search engines, Bing or Google so far. I don't want to. It used to be always on the Google, and I want to again permanently on Google. Help?

Just like the States mentioned above. This refers to the search bar on the right. I don't want to remove it, I like to use. I want to get back the Google value permanently. Even if I turn it on to Google in the drop-down menu, when I restart Firefox, it changes back. Once again, instead of any other logo of search engine, it has a small logo of Firefox, saying 'Web search' next to him in grey if no text is entered. He often gives Bing search results, even if I deleted Bing in search engines installed.

I also checked the default search engine in topic: config, and despite what I describe above, the default value is still on Google.

Why this is happening and how to fix it? It didn't happen until the other day here, so it would be after the update to Firefox 6.

Go to your add-ons Manager and disable extensions test pilot.

Fixed a problem. Someone should pay me now!

  • I keep getting invited to set Yahoo as default search engine, but it already is, so I have to keep refreshing Firefox.

All the few weeks that I have to update Firefox to get rid of the box that asks me to set Yahoo as my default search engine. But it already is and I click Yes or no I always wonder. It's more than annoying. How to solve this problem?

If you want to get rid of this "nag" - get rid of this extension of the Yahoo toolbar, which is clearly the source of this message. Or see Yahoo support to know how to remove this message within this extension.

  • Adding a search engine toolbar

using firefox 11.0 on win 7 64 bit and cannot load a search engine toolbar. I did some research and found that I need to click on the search engine icon, but it is not one on my browser. I have not found another way to open the window "manage search engines". also frustrated that google has abandoned their search bar for firefox. thinking AVG load them would show up - it didn't. However, when I type a search string in my address bar, I get the avg search engine results.

@LongHawl, is the search box here, but the drop/icon-triangle is missing? I see two ways that the malware could have hidden button. The first would be if you have an add-on that was left. If you check

Orange Firefox button or classic menu Tools > Modules > Extensions

You will find all this useless or suspicious noise? If so, try to disable and restart Firefox to see if that helps.

The second would be to add a style rule in a settings file that may exist in your profile folder. If you open

    Help > troubleshooting information

In the first section, you will find the button 'open containing folder '. Click that, and then double-click the chrome folder. If you see a file named userChrome.css, then we'd like to check that all the rules that affect the toolbars in the file. It is a text file, which you can open with Notepad or Wordpad or your favorite text editor. If you copy and paste the file here rules, we can take a look.

If there is no questionable Add-ons and no userChrome.css, then, hmmm, you might want to try resetting your toolbars in their default configuration. This article in the section "reset toolbars and controls" has the instructions: Back and forward or other toolbar items are missing. Troubleshooting | Firefox Help. (To avoid losing other customizations, do not check the other boxes.)

  • Where is the user interface to rearrange the search engines in Fx34?

I found the new page in the Options dialog box, but this does not seem to allow the reorganization. In addition, what happens if I want (or need) to see more than just the icons to tell apart search engines?

Sorry, the possibility for the user to rearrange their search engines installed seems to have disappeared. There is no UI as before, and I have not found any prefs hidden to the re - order.

I it is just returned to the previous schema for the search bar, like this:

Open Subject: config (typed in the address bar)
Do a right click and toggle this false preference

    browser.search.showOneOffButtons

    Then restart Firefox.

  • default search engine

Try to make Bing my default... search by clicking the top right toolbar to display the available engines - Bing not here... click on "manage search engines" and then on "manage search engines" - brings me to a completely useless page with 5 modules on it!

    Went to
"http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Search%20bar#w_while-visiting-a-website" (which reach you by clicking on "additional documentation" on the page mentioned above with 5 modules on it)-it
tells you how you can add a motor while visiting - but the Add option does not come to the top when I'm on Bing.com!

the example given is (for youtube)

'To add the specific engine, open search engine list and select Add "YouTube Video Search".

Mycroft is no help either because I don't think I want a plugin, but rather to make Bing the default search for everything (I hear it's pretty good and you want to see it in action!)

Bottom line: FF doesn't seem like Bing! I know it's a MS product, but...

Firefox does not come with a search engine Bing, you must add it. Search engines install via a 'plugin '.

This page - http://www.bing.com/ - does not offer a search for installation plugin, that's why - http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Search%20bar#w_while-visiting-a-website - does not work to install a search plugin in Firefox.
