Google should always open when I open a new tab
I put a site specific e-mail on the first tab. I know how to set or change. Now, here's my request-
I wish that whenever I open a second new too) tab, it should always open Google to make my search easier. If I want to change it, I'll do it manually. I also set Google as my search engine, still it does not automatically appear on opening a new tab.
Pl Guide.
Here's how to specify the page to display in a new tab:
(1) in a new tab, type or paste Subject: config in the address bar and press ENTER. Click on the button promising to be careful.
(2) in the search above the list box, type or paste newtab and make a pause so that the list is filtered
(3) double-click the preference browser.newtab.url and enter your favorite page:
- (Default) page thumbnails = > subject: newtab
- Blank tab = > subject: empty
- Built-in Firefox homepage = > topic: welcome
- Any other page = > full URL of the page
Note: Google will always redirect to the secure, so version, save a step by pasting the full URL: https://www.google.com/
Press Ctrl + t to open a new tab and check that it worked. Fixed?
Some traps:
If Firefox will not let you change this setting: you can have what is called SearchProtect on your system.
Firefox if allows you to save your changes, but he doesn't know: one of your extensions may be the substitution of her. You can consult, disable and/or remove extensions on page modules. Either:
- CTRL + SHIFT + a
- "3-bar" menu button (or tools) > Add-ons
In the left column, click on Extensions
If the modification works during your session, but returns to the previous setting at the next startup: you could have a user.js file in your personal settings Firefox (your Firefox profile folder). This article describes how to track down and delete the file: How to fix preferences that will not save. Or you may have a software like Advanced SystemCare that blocks / restores changes to browser settings.
A little luck?

How to disable an add-in to always open a new tab to a predetermined web page?
Research of duct add on sneaking on my firefox when I downloaded a free comic reader called "CDisplay.
I tried to use the cleaning https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/searchreset/ add-on, but it is nowhere once it has apparently installed.
I can't activate the searchreset add on, it does not work, or this does not resolve the isssue of add-on "leads". any help appreciated
Thank you both for your responses... I solved the problem by using the system restore, will go back to yesterday.
So I don't have the chance to try your corrections, but they both seem worth giving a go if the system restore would be too much of a change in one workflow.

In the Blackboard, I need not to open a new tab in Firefox. Before the last update, it was fine, but now when I click on a new choice (that is, the notebook) it always opens a new tab. The administrator of my Bb says it's a browser problem. I can right click to open a new tab, but there is no choice not to open a new tab.
You can check some prefs on the topic: config page:
- 1: active tab; 2: new window; 3: new tab;
For links opened via JavaScript, you can watch this pref:
You can open the topic: config page via the address bar.
You can accept the warning and click on "I'll be careful" to continue.Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/tools > Modules > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is the cause of the problem.
- Put yourself in the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/tools > Modules > appearance
- Do NOT click on the reset button on the startup window Mode safe

Recently, I installed utorrent. The problem began after that. The homepage is Google, but by opening a new tab, I don't get the thumbnails appearing usually rather search.conduit page is open. How can I get my old settings back? I even uninstalled utorrent to see if the problem goes away, but it's not.
Looks like led/Utorrent amended your preference of browser.newtab.url . First of all, check your installed programs and Firefox extensions for a related Conduit material or a 'Utorrent browser bar '. Uninstall if found.
- In the address bar, type Subject: config and press enter. The subject: config "this might void your warranty!" warning page may appear.
- Click on I'll be careful, I promise!, to continue on the subject: config page.
- Type browser.newtab.url in the search box
- Double-click the browser.newtab.url preference and change the url to Subject: newtab
- Also search about: config for driving/Utorrent preferences. Search for pipes and Utorrent. If there is, then right-click and choose reset
I use Utorrent, but what can happen is that the Utorrent Installer installed also led. When you install programs, don't forget to read and not to go click happy.

Whenever I press a shortcut or link it used to open them in the tab that I was, but now it always opens a new tab for everything and it's driving crazy me.
Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/tools > Modules > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is the cause of the problem.
- Put yourself in the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/tools > Modules > appearance

How can I use - openURL remote without having to open a new tab?
I have a kiosk based on the web that I built very long time (before tabbed browsing) that uses periodic calls to:
Firefox-remote "openURL (http://start.csail.mit.edu/mit-museum)'
to reset the kiosk to the homepage (the function depends on the web free-form only Browsing not a single sharp application that can recharge only periodically)
Modern Firefoxes (now works with 12) this call always opens a new tab. I want to do is close all existing tabs but one and return this one to the home page.
Is there a way to do it with one '-remote ' call or do I need to kill and restart the browser?
in all: \windows\system32\conifg\system try to set "browser.link.open_newwindow.override.external" to 1
Edit: Sorry, didn't read your question carefully, the above will only open an external url in the current tab but does not reset the session

When I open a new tab, I'm on it to open it with Google Search.
When I open a new tab, I'm on it to open it with Google Search. How can I change this?
Hi, 41 of Firefox, you must use the add-on tab override (browser.newtab.url replacement), to make changes to the page tab.
Once installed, open the Add-ons (Ctrl + Shift + A) Manager > Extensions, and then look for the new tab override and click Options to set your preference.
Notice, if you want only the new tab to be the same as your home page, you can use the Add on new tab homepage instead.
You will then need to restart Firefox for all changes to take effect.
If your question is resolved by this or another answer, please take a minute to let us know. Thank you.

When I opened a new tab, I'm always redirected to a page which I don't see, how do I fix
About two days ago, I noticed that everytime I open a new tab in the browser opens a new page instead of a vacuum... im always redirected to the site https://sg.yahoo.com/...how can I fix?... This is the result of a malicious program?... Thanks in advance for helping me
Hi, it could be malicious, but first try this: Type Subject: config in the address bar, press ENTER, accept the warning, scroll to browser.newtab.url and make sure that 'Value' is defined Subject: newtab (right click > change, change it if necessary, taking care to not to change what anyone else). You will then need to restart Firefox.
As an alternative, you can use the add-on SearchReset.
If the new tab gets changed back once again, it is possible that an add-on or theme is the cause, then try Mode without failure of Firefox to see if the problem goes away. Firefox Safe mode is a troubleshooting mode that temporarily disables hardware acceleration, restores some settings and disables add-ons (extensions and themes).
If Firefox is open, you can restart Firefox Safe mode in the Help menu:
- Click the menu button
click Help
then select restart with disabled modules.
If Firefox does not work, you can start Firefox in Mode safe as follows:
- On Windows: Hold down the SHIFT key when you open the desktop Firefox or shortcut in the start menu.
- On Mac: Hold the option key during the startup of Firefox.
- On Linux: Exit Firefox, go to your Terminal and run firefox-safe-mode
(you may need to specify the installation path of Firefox for example/usr/lib/firefox)
When the Firefox Safe Mode window appears, select "start mode safe."
If the problem is not present in Firefox Safe Mode, your problem is probably caused by an extension, theme or hardware acceleration. Please follow the steps described in the section Troubleshooting extensions, themes and problems of hardware acceleration to resolve common Firefox problems to find the cause.
To exit safe mode of Firefox, simply close Firefox and wait a few seconds before you open Firefox for normal use again.

If it persists, you can try these free programs to search for malicious software that work with your existing anti-virus software:
- Microsoft safety scanner
- MalwareBytes' Anti-Malware
- Anti-Rootkit utility - TDSSKiller
- AdwCleaner (for more information, see this other AdwCleaner download page)
- Hitman Pro
- ESET Online Scanner
Microsoft Security Essentials is a good permanent antivirus for Windows 7/Vista/XP, if you do not already have one. Windows 8 already has integrated antivirus.

When I open a new tab, I get redirected to a page that is not google. I want to start with google and go from there.
You can check the browser.newtab.url pref on the topic: config page and set this pref to your preferred the new tab page.
- the new default tab with the tiles page is on: newtab
- the default homepage is Subject: Home
- to a blank page, you can use Subject: vacuum
The pref browser.newtabpage.enabled must be set to true to use the page defined through browser.newtab.url like the new tab page.
See this article on the page tab (topic: newtab):
Your list of details of the system shows that you have a user.js file in the profile folder to initialize prefs each time you start Firefox.
The user.js file is present than if you or another software has created this file and normally it wouldn't be here. You can check its contents with a text editor (right click: 'Open with'; do not double-click).
The user.js file is read whenever Firefox is started and initializes the preferences to the specified value in this file, so the preferences set via user.js can be changed temporarily for the current session. You can remove the user.js file if you do not create this file yourself.
You can use this button to go to the Firefox profile folder currently in use:
- Help > troubleshooting information > profile directory: see file (Linux: open the directory;) Mac: View in the Finder)

I want the homepage to search Google to open when I open a new tab instead of the default generic search box. How can I change what opens when I open a new tab?
Why not use the built-in engines, Google is one of them, and it is the default search engine. You can have the results of your search automatically open in a new tab, and your links on the Google results page each open in a new tab.
