Guide of idiots for VMWare

My head was about to hit the pillow when I remembered that I had to post a question.

First of all apologies.  I'm a noob to VMWare and don't really know the first thing.

I have a situation where:

-my client has an aging Windows 2000 with Exhcange 5.5 Server

-It is dying a slow death; a processor is offline and 1 of the 3 HARD drives is now dead

My best guess is that a virtual machine is going to be a miracle solution to solve the problem.

I inherited the network some time ago.  He has a certain number of bits custom software that have been configured to use Exchange.

I hated to update because new owners (my client) is not the source code for applications (Oblivion) and all works I will not change it. $ also had a problem.

As this server is dying, my suggestion to the client is to migrate a virtual machine.  Obviously benefits being: ability to migrate to different hardware, availability etc, etc, but... I don't know the first thing about VMWare or/P2V migration of a server.

Is there an idiots guide I can follow?

I guess I need to know the steps; compatible materials, guest operating system supported, etc.

My apolgies if, and I know that it was addressed before.  I'm not in a spirit of looking for him right now and much prefer post (given the lag in AU).

There may be a link to such a guide of idiots?

A very popular Adviser.

See you soon.

Andrew.

Hello Andrew

How many virtual servers, you are going to be run on a single physical server. And do you intend to continnue with the same Windows 2000 and Ex 5.5? Honestly, the answer to your question depends on this.

If you manage to get a copy of TrainSignals vSphere training, then it will be good

Go first to http://www.vmware.com/resources/compatibility/search.php , and under the systems tab, you can search for a compatible server. Once you decide on the server, you will need to decide what flavor of vSphere OS interested. You have 3 options

ESXi 4 free (totally free; support less functionality)

ESXi 4 (Slimmed version of ESX. Most of the fuction in ESX can be dealt with here also. Important remember that is missing is the linux shell)

ESX (full version)

And then you need to install this as the operating system. You can then start the construction of the virtual machine

Let us know if you need more information. If the answer is helpful please mark it useful or appropriate.

Thank you

Riaz

    1. do I need to present all LUNS to the Netbackup master server also take san free backup of Vmware.

    2. how it is possible to do the same thing without all of the LUNS to the master/Backup Server.

    3. I have 100 VM and how do I take the free agent complete vmbackup.

    Hello.

    1. do I need to present all LUNS to the Netbackup master server also take san free backup of Vmware.

I guess you mean "LAN-free backup" above.  You must present LUNS to your NetBackup server, if you want backups without LAN.

    2. how it is possible to do the same thing without all of the LUNS to the master/Backup Server.

In your strategy, choose something else than SAN for the "transfer type".

    3. I have 100 VM and how do I take the free agent complete vmbackup.

Choose "Windows FlashBackup" for your type of strategy, and this will get the full virtual machine.

I don't want the lunns to be present on any other server accept esx.

Why, or what is the reason for this?  Your NetBackup on Windows servers?  Who has access to the backup servers?

Can any body step by step document to configure windows backuphost(netbackup server) to take VMware lan free backup using the Vstorage API.

Everything you need is in the "Symantec NetBackup (tm) 7.0 for VMware Guide"

    Good luck!

  • RedHat 64-bit P2V for VMWare Fusion

I need to convert a 64-bit RedHat Linux virtual physical machine, and I installed the vCenter Converter Standalone software, both on the Linux machine so that a Windows machine I have practice.  The converter on the Windows machine is able to connect, and then select the Linux as a Source, but then I get to the Destination option and he asks me a destination server.  I read in the user's guide:

NOTE for P2V of Linux, the only destination supported conversion tasks is a product of VMware Infrastructure Virtualization.

Is it simply not possible to get since Linux merger?  Or can I install a 'product of VMware Infrastructure Virtualization' temporarily for the purpose of creating a virtual machine, then copy the virtual machine to a Mac running Fusion?

    It's probably hardware not supported.

I have not personally used platespin, so I don't know if it can go directly to the Fusion 2/3 (or Workstation 6.5.x)

I'm looking to buy the Hard Drive isolation Guide screw mounting for addind of additional hard drives to my Dc7900CMT HP., anyone know where I can get them? Thank you

    Hello:

If there is not a spare part located inside the box in the drive Bay, you're out of luck.

They are sold only with the purchase of an HP hard drive.

I searched everywhere for the people and can't find that even resemble those in a dc5800/dc7800, dc7900 or Elite 8000-8300, 6200 Pro.

I gave everyone the reservist status sets I have.

  • Host for vmware integration tools

where can I download the host for Vmware integration tools?

the support site are not providing the relevant download

    https://eqlsupport.Dell.com/support/download.aspx?ID=3199

Klick on VMware integration or eqlsupport.dell.com/.../download.aspx

Its a set of programs. Most likely, you are looking for the MEM (Module of Extension Multipath) and VSM (Virtual Storage Manager), formerly known as the ASM/VE. The last is the "plugin" for the connection between your group EQL and vSphere vCenter. His only usable in the 'new' WebClient vSphere and not for the old c# one.

  • x 4012 MTU for VMware NSX

    Hello

I am looking for two 10 GB switches to low price without perfomance high-end to create an environment of demonstration NSX. VMware NSX has only one requirement difficult and an option for the integration complete.

A 10 GB of Dell switch x 4012 would comply with the following requirements:

    • MTU > = 1600 (for the encapsulation of packages)
    • Support IGMP (HA hybrid mode but optional in our test configuration)

I'm not able to find a reference in the documentation of these two characteristics.

Thanks in advance for the help!

If you have another idea or suggestion, feel free to contact me.

  • Guide not updated for Windows 7, Windows Media Center

I live in Las Vegas with Cox Cable TV provider, I have a TV tuner installed in my PC and a cable digital box connected to the TV tuner.  It works fine until Monday, March 10, 2014.  Usually, the guide is available for upgrade to 17:30 Monday to Saturday.  The guide will not update automatically or manually from Mar 10,2014.  The guide indicates that runs through March 22 at 12:00, but the Guide stops posted at 16:00 on 21 March, while only 10 days are shown instead of 14.

  • OpenManage for VMWare ESXi has no possibility of tasks of virtual disk

OMSA v 7.1 and 7.2 for Windows (and earlier versions) allow the user to perform many tasks on virtual disks, including reconfiguring - expand a RAID array with a new drive.

This is not true for managing open for VMWare ESXi - although you can monitor the status of the RAID and disks with the browser of the OMSA interface type, you cannot perform tasks - can not even make a high beam Flash.

It is a huge problem, because the PERC controllers (H700 and H800, for example) don't allow you to develop virtual using hard drives not Dell disks when you try this during startup in the bios.  (These controllers only allows you to create new virtual disks using drives not Dell).

This test was conducted using the latest firmware (12.10.4 - 0001 A10) and drivers for the H700 and H800 and multi-server r610 ESXi 5.1.

Other people with VMWare have been affected by the present?  The only solution is to have two player networks connected to the computer, and create a simple Windows with OMSA, boot in Windows Server to expand the table using OMSA for Windows.

I would be interested in the comments of others, including those of Dell.  We spent hours on the phone with Dell; This seems to be the only solution.  (Yes, Dell released a firmware version last year that has ceased blocking non Dell readers, but it only works for the creation of a new virtual disk, do not expanding one existing).

Yes.  It came through a discussion in the Dell | Servers | Discussion of the RAID community.

    en.Community.Dell.com/.../20263442.aspx

There is a CD bootable linux called OMSA Live that you download from PowerEdge (linux OS) systems management.

This OMSA PERC H700 and H800 control and allows you to do everything.  When you reconfigure the RAID and the PERC card starts the reconstruction, although it seems risky, you can restart under VMware and the reconstruction of the RAID continues on.  And you can analyze with OMSA for VMware.

  • Free BSD for VMWare Virutal Machine image

    Hello everyone

This is my first post in any VMWare community forum and I would advice to take advantage of ready-made virtual machines available on the FreeBSD site:

    ftp://ftp.freebsd.org/pub/FreeBSD/releases/VM-IMAGES/10.2-RELEASE/amd64/Latest/

This page from the same site indicates the hard image for VMWare, but my last copy of VMWare Workstation 12 player accept files .vmx or .vmc - not hard:

    ftp://ftp.freebsd.org/pub/FreeBSD/releases/VM-IMAGES/README.txt

Is this mean that hard images can be loaded into other paid products VMWare?

I look forward to receiving tips.

    Thanks in advance

Ah, you use the drive, I just read the part of the workstation

OK, so, here we have to work around the problem. Create a virtual machine, the select part to store the disk in a single file and not split disc.

When you create, delete the newly created hard.

Copy the VMDK you downloaded from the website of bsd in the VM folder and rename the hard on behalf of the deleted vmdk.

    Hello

    In this page: https://my.vmware.com/group/vmware/evalcenter?lp=default & p = free-esxi5

When you click on the "Installation and configuration" tab, we have access to videos for vSphere Hypervisor.

But at the moment, none of the video can be shown.  I tried this in my computer at home as well as my company computer and none works.

Someone who works for VMware please check this problem.

    Thank you

OK, I just found what was "wrong".  These videos are "optimized" for Internet Explorer!   Yes, I tried on Firefox and Chrome on XP Pro and Win7, nothing worked.  Then after reading your message, I thought ' what happens if I try that? "  ... and indeed, the videos are displayed inside, I.e. I got suddenly a bad feeling, like I was back at the beginning of the 21st century!

Come on!  Who would still do 'optimized' only website to know today?   I'm sure they will not be displayed on my Tablet either.

I found these videos on YouTube:

I think they are the same videos (but the quality is really bad... 360 p.: geez!).  Could someone confirm that they are indeed the same as those in vmware.com?  THX

PS: Oh, on the section "Help", I found it at help | United States but I've seen no paragraph telling me how to report a problem on the website.
