Happy New Year: G-O-N-E Virtual Machine

Then I came this morning, the icon of VM Ware was still in the Organizer, when I clicked to go to the virtual machine, it had disappeared from the menu!

Fortunately I had saved the most critical stuff by dragging it exceeds the mac destop and machining time, but all my other content, including programs, seem to be lost!

Is it possible that I can 'find' the old VM? He is now asking me to add a new virtual machine and I don't want to do if it's going to crash.

I have add another drive to get more space after 20 first GB has been used, but that would cause such a disaster!

Any help much appreciated.

Jeff.

is upgrade v 2.0.1 recommended considering my problems

If Fusion 1.x did what you need, then I advise you to wait until at least Fusion 2.0.3 and see what problems there.  I upgraded and had no choice that to go back to 1.x as well as many others have done the same and while it's probably in the minority, if you want to try the Fusion 2.x I highly recommend that you perform a full backup of the Virtual Machine, so if you happen to have to go back, you can use a virtual machine that has not been affected by 2.x at all and just restore the data the user of the upgraded.

The result is if you have backed up you have everything to gain with the new features and the worst case a waste of time if you come back to 1.x, so if you save and don't mind the slim chance of losing some time and having to go back then I would give it a try.

(ii) are there instructions on the machining time my entire virtual machine rather than having to move things to the mac via Office?

Time Machine talked a bit in the forum so some research can provide you with more details but I will just point out that Time Machine is not 100% reliable for use with Virtual Machines and can use have been sadly disappointed when they lost everything that you try to restore a VM from Time Machine even if others have not had any problems.  So the bottom line is IMO, only a fool is based on a method of backup/restore and if you choose to use Time Machine I highly recommend that you also keep a copy outside the TM of the entire Virtual Machine as another soul of recovery.  It's also smart to keep several user data only Backup Sets and turn them in the game, thus ensuring a multi-layered approach. TM for this, but I insist, do not rely only TM or any other method in and of itself.

In any case the Fusion of VMS based normal files are stored in a folder that has a .vmwarevm extension and this extension, hidden by default, the file a Document Package and backup package or in your case, the files of the Virtual Machine that is simply a normal folder, backup the entire folder and of course in both cases the Virtual Machine should not be enforced and merger must be closed.

Note: As with some versions of Fusion 1.x and some versions of the OS X Virtual Machine's virtual hard drive has been excluded Time machine so depending on which versions etc. TM can be a problem for you.  It's been a while and I don't remember of the top of my head what versions however its been covered before in the forum.

  • New computer with Windows in a Virtual Machine installation

    Hello

    I want to do a clean install on my new computer, so I can run Linux as main OS with Windows 7 on a virtual machine using VirtualBox.

    Is it possible/legal? How can I activate windows?

    EDIT: I forgot to mention that I have an OEM windows license.

    See you soon / Erik

    Yes, the end-user Windows 7 license contract permits.

    2. INSTALLATION AND USE RIGHTS.

    a. one copy per computer. You can install one copy of the software on a single computer. This computer is "licensed computer.

    b. a computer license. You can use the software on up to two processors of the computer under license at some point. Except as provided in these license terms, you cannot use the software on any other computer.

    c. number of users. Except as provided in these license terms, only one user may use the software at a time.

    d. other Versions. The software may include several versions, such as 32-bit and 64-bit. You may install and use only one version at a time.

    d. use with Virtualization Technologies. Rather than use the software directly on the licensed computer, you can install and use the software within the single virtual (or emulated) system on the licensed computer. When used in a virtualized environment, content protected by digital rights management technology, BitLocker or any hard drive full-volume encryption technology is perhaps not as secure as protected content not in a virtualized environment. You must comply with all national and international laws that apply to such protected content.

  • Create a new vsphere environment 6 and migrate virtual machines to esxi existing 5.1

    The current environment has a cluster with 5.1 esxi hosts and vcenter server 5.5-controlled.

    I would like to create a new environment vsphere 6 with new hosts. Again I mean a clean install of vCenter server 6 and esxi, implementation of the new cluster, etc.. So I won't be able to migrate virtual machines running in 5.1 esxi hosts to the new environment.

    What would be the appropriate steps to make this right?

    Thank you.

    Take a look at this KB on how to move an ESXi host at another vCenter vSphere: VMware KB: move a managed ESX ESXi host to a vCenter Server to a different Server vCenter

    And if you are using vDS, you should look here: KB VMware: ESX/ESXi host with vDS passing a vCenter Server to another

  • PowerCLI Script to migrate virtual machines with the same network Source for the new vCenter Server.

    Hi all

    I checked a few posts on the migration to the new vCenter Server virtual machine. But I'm not very good with Powercli and need some help here.

    We have a new vCenter server where we migrate virtual machines from one source vCenter server. Here are two things that I don't know how to connect together to make sure that bwfore we turn on the virtual machine to the virtual machine is connected to its source network.

    Part 1 - this script works well but do not get any network on the vCenter destination.

    cluster = Get-Cluster "clusterA.

    $inventory = get-Cluster $cluster | Get - VM | Add-Member - MemberType ScriptProperty-name "VMXPath" - value {$this.extensiondata.config.files.vmpathname}-Passthru-Force | Select-Object Name ResourcePool, folder, VMXPath |

    $inventory | Export-Csv c:\file.csv

    $inventory = import-csv c:\file.csv

    $cluster = get-group 'b '.

    {foreach ($vm to $inventory)

    $ESXHost = get-Cluster $cluster | Get-VMHost | Select - 1 first

    New-VM - VMFilePath $vm. VMXPath - VMHost $ESXHost - location $vm. Folder - ResourcePool (Get-Cluster $cluster |) Get-ResourcePool $vm. ResourcePool)

    }

    Part 2 - I want to preserve the Portgroup macaddress and the Ip of the virtual computers and connect them to the new vCenter. How can I do this with the script below. Or how can I combine them together?

    $vm_list = get-Cluster-name "clustera | Get - VM test * | Name sort

    $information = {foreach ($vm to $vm_list)

    $network_adapter_information = get-NetworkAdapter - VM $vm

    $vm | Select Name,PowerState,ResourcePool,@{N="Path; E=       {$_. ExtensionData.Summary.Config.VmPathName}},@{N="NetworkAdapter '; E = {[string]: join (":", ($network_adapter_information |))} %{$_. {{(Nom + "," + _.NetworkName $}))}}, @{N = "MacAddress"; E = {[string]: join (",", ($network_adapter_information | % {$_.}))} MacAddress}))}}

    }

    Step 2

    # Unsubscribe virtual machines

    Remove-VM - VM $vm_list-RunAsync Verbose - confirm: $false

    Step 3

    $cluster = get-group 'b '.

    {foreach ($vm to $inventory)

    $ESXHost = get-Cluster $cluster | Get-VMHost | Select - 1 first

    New-VM - VMFilePath $vm. VMXPath - VMHost $ESXHost - location $vm. Folder - ResourcePool (Get-Cluster $cluster |) Get-ResourcePool $vm. ResourcePool)

    }

    # Save virtual machines

    foreach ($info in $information)

    {

    $vmxpath = $info. Path

    $resource_pool = $info. ResourcePool.Name

    New-VM - ResourcePool (ResourcePool-Get-name $resource_pool) VMFilePath - $vmxpath - RunAsync-Verbose | Out-Null

    }

    Step 4

    # Put the network cards

    foreach ($info in $inventory)

    {

    foreach ($network_information in ($info.NetworkAdapter - split ":"))))

    {

    $virtual_machine = $info | %{$_. Name}

    $network_adapter = ($network_information-split ",") [0]

    $network_vlan = ($network_information-split ",") [1]

    Get-VM-name $virtual_machine | Get-NetworkAdapter-name $network_adapter | Together-NetworkAdapter - NetworkName $network_vlan-Verbose-RunAsync-confirm: $false | Out-Null

    }

    }

    # Start the virtual machines

    foreach ($vm to $vm_list)

    {

    Start-VM - VM $vm. Name-RunAsync Verbose - confirm: $false | Out-Null}

    }

    Thanks in advance for any help.

    Hi all

    I made some changes to the script and it worked for me. We have added a host on the destination with all exchanges and storage mapped vCenter.

    $vm_list = get-Cluster-name 'Site B - b | Get - VM | Name sort

    $information = {foreach ($vm to $vm_list)

    $network_adapter_information = get-NetworkAdapter - VM $vm

    $vm | Select Name,PowerState,ResourcePool,@{N="Path; E=       {$_. ExtensionData.Summary.Config.VmPathName}},@{N="NetworkAdapter '; E = {[string]: join (":", ($network_adapter_information |))} %{$_. {{(Nom + "," + _.NetworkName $}))}}, @{N = "MacAddress"; E = {[string]: join (",", ($network_adapter_information | % {$_.}))} MacAddress}))}}

    }

    # Unsubscribe virtual machines

    Remove-VM - VM $vm_list-Verbose - confirm: $false

    $cluster = get-Cluster "Site A - clustera.

    {foreach ($vm to $information)

    $ESXHost = get-Cluster $cluster | Get-VMHost | Select - 1 first

    New-VM - VMFilePath $vm.path - VMHost $ESXHost - location $vm. Folder - ResourcePool (Get-Cluster $cluster |) Get-ResourcePool $vm. ResourcePool)

    }

    # Save virtual machines

    foreach ($info in $information)

    {

    $vmxpath = $info. Path

    $resource_pool = $info. ResourcePool

    New-VM - ResourcePool (ResourcePool-Get-name "test1") VMFilePath - $vmxpath - RunAsync-Verbose | Out-Null

    }

    # Put the network cards

    .

    foreach ($info in $information)

    {

    foreach ($network_information in ($info.NetworkAdapter - split ":"))))

    {

    $virtual_machine = $info | %{$_. Name}

    $network_adapter = ($network_information-split ",") [0]

    $network_vlan = ($network_information-split ",") [1]

    Get-VM-name $virtual_machine | Get-NetworkAdapter-name $network_adapter | Together-NetworkAdapter - NetworkName $network_vlan-Verbose - confirm: $false | Out-Null

    }

    }

    # Start the virtual machines

    foreach ($vm to $vm_list)

    {

    Start-VM - VM $vm. Name-RunAsync Verbose - confirm: $false | Out-Null

    }

    Hope this will help many of you.

  • Restore virtual machines after building the new RAID array

    Hi all

    I am new to the virtual machines, so I'm sorry for the newbie question. Currently, I have a HP ML350 G6 ESXi 5.0.0 running on 4 GB Flash hosting SD cards two virtual machines and licenses for 5 Essentials vSphere and vCenter Server 5 Essentials. I also have a RAID5 configuration with drives SAS 146 GB (6). I intend to remove all six readers and their replacement by 300 GB disks and build a RAID6 array. My question is, what would be the best practice to move the two VMS in the current RAID array to the new RAID array? Wouldn't be also simple to make backups of virtual machines or clones, exchanging the readers, the new array of construction and restoring virtual machines? If someone could point me in the right direction would be great!

    Thank you all!

    Personally, I would go with backup & restore. In addition, use the downtime to upgrade the firmware of the host (HP published recently a few critical fixes on the RAID controller and some models of HARD drive).

    What I would do - to avoid any problem - is to remove the host ESXi, vCenter, replace disks, update the firmware, re - install ESXi and as final step add the host to vCenter again.

  • Best way to move a virtual machine to new hardware

    I have a SBS 2011 VMS under ESXi 5.  The material is not enough and performance are slowed down.  I want to spend the SBS 2011 VMS to new hardware.  After install ESXi on the new hardware, which is the best way to move the virtual machine.  It's big enough, and it is a production server - I'm looking for fast and efficient.  What are the most common problems when moving from a virtual computer to new hardware?  Thank you!

    A virtual machine is encapsulated in a set of files, making it easy to carry; You can copy the files from the virtual machine using WinSCP or any other program to the destination host. Register the vmx on the new host and turn on the virtual machine. You may also look @ of Veeam FastSCP for this purpose. I have not had the chance to use it yet, but it's free and seems very popular with the community:

  • Creates a new Pool - does not create virtual machines

    Hi all

    Display using ESX 4.1u1, 4.6

    I've been using view for a good amount of time, able to create pools without issue.

    I tried to create a pool this morning and after configuring the settings, I hit the finish and he never started to provision VMs.

    I thought that maybe it was taking too long so I created a new pool with a couple of virtual machines to launch initial. Nothing.

    I restarted VCenter. And services.

    I should also restart the view connection server?

    I need it as soon as possible, so that any help would be appreciated.

    Thank you

    Do you have your vCenter problems corrected?   I was wondering if this fixed your problem?

  • Difference between the hosts and virtual machines

    Happy new year!

    I guess that's a stupid question, but I don't know the answer to it.

    I created pools from VM. Some jobs in the pool are hosts and some virtual machines. What is the difference between the hosts and virtual machines. I thought I could only create virtual machines, but I guess I could create hosts as well. -What happened?

    Thanks for your help.

    where does say desktops are hosts?  A host is usually referring to an ESXi server.  A virtual machine is just the guest OS running on the host computer.  A pool is a group of VMs that can extend over several hosts.
