Replacing hard drive; need to backup Office Outlook 2007 files
Can someone help me? I need to backup my data on an external drive that my HARD drive needs to be replaced. It will be available soon and will be a "clean install". "." How to save and backup my Office Outlook 2007 (pst) files to the external drive and reload the disk hard drive once the technician installs and I reload all the programs? I found an article stating that I have to change the Outlook data folder to a name I will recognize later. I did it; tried to follow the steps and it impasse. what I am doing wrong and how can I be sure that data gets saved to disk in position correctly to re - install once I am in service again.
Thanks in advance for your help.
You need learn to navigate through folders in Windows Explorer. You can find them in the C:\Users\username\Outlooks files.
See the following article: How to manage .pst in Outlook files

I don't really know what that NTI, but I would not trust this application with your files. Back up your files REGULARLY, it's something you can do already, not only to replace your hard drive. And that means understand where all your important files and using an easy to keep on a separate hard drive backup program.
= Backup all important files are on two drives separated at all times
Archives = backup files to a permanent location, such as a CD or DVD, in a location separate from your computer.

HP Pavilion 6653w "imminent hard drive failure! "Backup and replace. Questions.
Hello, I have a HP Pavilion 6653w with Windows 7 Home Premium desktop computer. It is 4 to 6 years old. Recently, when I start it, I get a message "imminent hard disk failure! Please save and replace as soon as possible." I've never had to replace a hard drive before, so I have some questions:
1 should. what type of disc do I replace - be of the same type that I have now? (Hitachi, 1 TB). Is there a list somewhere that shows which drives are not suitable for my computer?
2 - is a mechanically inclined person (my husband) could do at home, or that it does not require a professional? My husband has replaced a front memory card, we just request if it is similar to the one in trouble?
Thank you!

This link will take you to a document on the withdrawal and the replacement of a hard drive on a HP or Compaq desktop computer. If it is not identical to your case, it will be a little similar. The point is, that it is not terribly difficult; This is something you might be able to tackle yourself, or with a friend who has some experience with computers.
I hope this helps.

2 hard drives using a backup/storage
Hello. I have two hard drives. I use a (disc 1) for OS, games, etc. I use the other (disc 2) for storing music, photos, documents, storage of large parcels of game. If I install a new operating system on disk 1 I will still be able to extract the data from drive 2 or will it formatted or rendered unusable.
You only format or change the main drive, your second drive will not be affected (assuming you "mess" with the right drive)

How do I back up to external hard drive that is not an available drive
I have a Vista and my computer alerts me needs to back up, but fails because the "D" drive is full. I did a cleanup and still not enough space. I plugged my external hard drive and tried to return to the top, but this isn't an option to store up to only D. How can I clean the drive as well as to add an external hard drive as a backup option?
Hello
D: is normally your partition recovery and between 5-15GBs in size.
If the above is correct for your case, read this:
Your recovery Partition was photographed on your hard drive during the production of your computer by the manufacturer for all of these reasons.
1. to reinstall Vista from in the case of a failure of the system, based on individuals or the keys at startup.
F10 or Alt + F10 or F11 are a couple of different manufacturers use sequences.
You will need to ask your manufacturer for proper sequence.
2. to make the recovery disks on if your drive hard breaks down, so that you can then reinstall the operating system on a new hard drive.
Also ask them how to make records.
Your D: Recovery Drive is should not be used for backups, defragmented, etc..
There are backups on an external hard drive.
To resolve the problems that have arisen with the recovery D: Partition, you will need to contact the manufacturer of your computer to remove all that has been added to it.
See you soon.

Hi, I use a 1 TB external hard drive as my backup. I stupidly just released (Air drive) cable, now my Air will not read the disk. I learned to use the Exit command, but need the data on the disk hard "Damaged."
Any thoughts!
Pete
Make sure that the external drives is selected in the Finder > Preferences > General
If this box is already checked, reset the SMC > reset of the management system (SCM) on your Mac controller
Then see if your Mac can see the external hard drive.

My external hard drive, Time Machine is full. Should I keep plugged in m and, even if I switch to another external hard drive to keep backups with TimeMachine?
There is no need to keep two connected external drives. Instead, I suggest you to buy a bigger external hard drive and transfer the backups that you want from the old to the new external drive, so you can use the old external drive for other purposes-> Time Machine: how to transfer backups from a current backup disk to a new backup drive - Apple Support

backup external hard drive does not not to 8.1
Updated to 8.1 and now my external Iomega hard drive (for weekly backup) now does not work. He appears in the "devices", but then backup will not recognize it as a valid to continue my backup option. Suggestions please?
Hi UKPOL,
Please refer to the how to Geek article.
8.1 win can't stand a GUI for the backup files or imaging system. You have to use powershell or Win 8.1 reset/refresh options.
You can also create custom refresh images. See this article. The instructions also work with Win 8.1.
You will need to use third-party backup to back up files and folders.

I had a scare last week and thought that my computer crashed. In the end, everything was fine, but I decided I had to do a full backup of the system. Bought 500 GB external hard drive. Full backup of the system ran through the performance Wizard mode & maint. When finished, he gave me a saying of the warning, something like "insert a diskette to run the system restore" something like that. Does this mean that if I have a major failure which is on the external hard drive is null and avenue? Floppy? What is everything?
The disk is a boot disk that is used to access the backup files.

Data error when trying to backup files on external hard drive
Hello. I am unable to back up files from my Dell Studio desktop on an external hard drive. Previous backups were successful, but now I get "data error (cyclic redundancy check check 80070017).» I checked the disk, and there is no disk problem. I have gone through other assignments, and none seems to answer this question.
Hi Bill1959,
Welcome to Windows Vista answers Forums!
Step 1: First of all try to temporarily disable the Antivirus and security software and check.
Step 2: Try to run a checkdisk/r to repair bad sectors by following the steps mentioned below.
You can run a Checkdisk/r to repair problems related to bad sectors, lost clusters, reticulate files and directory of the command prompt errors in the System Recovery Options menu using the Installation of Vista disc.
1. Insert the installation disc.

Note: If your computer is not configured to start from a CD or a DVD, see the documentation provided with your computer. You may need to change your computer's BIOS settings. For more information, see BIOS: frequently asked questions.
4. choose your language settings, and then click Next.
5. click on repair your computer.
6. Select the operating system you want to repair, and then click Next.
7. in the System Recovery Options menu, click command prompt.
8. at the command prompt, type the following command and press ENTER
chkdsk X: /r (drive letter)
9. press y when you are prompted to check the drive the next time the system restarts.
10. close all applications, and then restart the computer.
Note: When you run the checkdisk, there are risks of data loss you can take a backup before starting the checkdisk.
Hope this information is useful.

Can I install a new HARD drive and use an old backup
Just, I got my new Dell's HARD drive and need to install it in my Dim 9200. Can I use the old hard drive as a backup drive or secondary without deleting anything or reformatting? I have too many things on the old drive and am not crazy about cloning, I prefer to do a clean install of XP and be able to do things more when I feel the need. Is this possible or am I dreaming.
Has never done this before so I need help. Thank you.
Dimension 9200 E6600 2.4 GHz 4 GB DDR2 sdram @ 533 MHZ 4x1Go
250 GB SATA II Samsung spinpoint drive HARD 8 MB cache 7200 RPM
Win XP Pro 32 bit OEM Delljgarcia
After installing the new drive hard SATA and windows installation, etc. and when it works to your satisfaction, put the 'old' drive as the secondary, transfer all the files and folders you need in the new C: / volume, using the option "send to." Providing the old hard drive has no problems, then the format and partition the drive for additional storage.
Note. Only files and folders can be transferred, all programs and applications must be reinstalled from their records, or downloaded from the site of the publishers.
