Yes, I think so.
The BIOS doesn't support all sizes of HARD drive! In my opinion, teething problems are associated with the large size of HARD drive and advise to use a smaller HARD drive.

Installing WXP on Satellite L40 - 18Z
Hello
I recently bought a laptop: SATELLITE L40 - 18Z, MODEL No. PSL48E. One of their salesmen dim wit forgot to mention that the warranty expires once you remove the VISTA machine.
I make music and need for XP as no software has caught with VISTA yet.
Someone out there has done this on this machine? It works if you download all the drivers for the model of the toshibas download section? When you have to install the drivers and through what media bring you on the machine? Do yuou should reformat the hard drive at all prior to xp?
I'm not clued by all means on this side of things for any help/advice would be much appreciated!
Thank you

That s is not true.
If you want, you can install the XP. That will not affect the warranty! If you want to install the Xp you simply boot from the XP CD.
Then, you will need to include the SATA (Intel Storage Manager) driver using the F6 key during the installation procedure. All or all the drivers needed XP, you should find on the page of the pilot!
See you soon

Satellite L40 - 18Z: warnings of Tempo that 75% of the memory has been used
My dad recently bought a satellite L40 - 18z.
Tempo began to give warnings that 75% of the memory has been used.
When I checked there a 74 GB HDD with 3 partitions top - 1.46 GB (which I assume is the recovery partition), GB 37.26 labeled 'Vista', containing the OS and all the rest, and finally Go 35.80 labeled 'Data' which is empty. The partition 'Data' is necessary?
Or do I have to move all of the documents on this partition, and if so why not been put there by default?
My father is not very computer and I find it strange that the hard drive is not that way. It could very easily write the Vista partition and thought it was! And ended up paying someone to put a bigger HDD in or sorting.
It seems to be no mention of partition 'Data' in the documentation or advice on how to use it.
> Is the partition 'Data' necessary?
Well, you can use this partition for data storage.
I mean you don t need to store files such as mp3, jpg, etc. on the system partition, but on this partition. -
Satellite L40 - 18Z - how to turn on wireless?
I have Satellite L40 - 18Z running Windows Vista Service Pack 2.
I've had a few cases where the wireless seems to have failed. On this instance, the LED at the front does not shine despite the switch is either off or on position. I checked the network card settings and it is activated. I have disabled/enabled the adapter, but without success. I uninstalled and reinstalled the driver - with no success. I checked for the latest drivers, but they are already installed.
I also deleted and reinstalled the adjacent wireless card to memory, there still without success. The network and sharing Center diagnosis indicates only that the without wire must pass away - but I am unable to do so.
Any advice would be welcome. Thank you.
Hello
The WIFI connection can be activated in different ways: with the hardware switch you have ever tried and key combination FN + F8.
So have you activated the wireless network card by pressing FN + F8?From my own experience, I can say that the WLAN led is only if you use this key combination too.
Check this box!In addition, you wrote on reinstall drivers WLAN you have installed you exactly? The most recent and pre-tested WLAN drivers, you can find the Toshiba site.
Last but not least, I also updated the BIOS, if nothing else works.

Hello.
I just bought a Satellite L40 - 18Z. I tried to connect to the internet wireless, but I get the following message: "this computer doesn't have a card installed and configured wireless network."
When I bought it I was told that it was active wireless.
Can anyone help?
Hello!
Have you checked if the hardware switch wireless on the front of the laptop is on?
You have yellow exclamation points?
The wireless adapter is recognized?Maybe you should also update the driver and/or BIOS.

I can't turn on the Wifi, Satellite L40 - 18Z
Hello
I use Satellite L40 - 18Z but I can not turn on Wifi.
I am very sure that peripheral lla is installed another property and I tried a few ways to turn on the Wifi device but never turned on. Of course, never caught the signal. Rooter has no problem either.
Manager says Deveice peripheral island works another property. And the driver is correctly installed. But I can't turn on parameter of network or windows Mobility Center.
It's very embarrassing to write something like that, but I need your help.
PS This is the first time that I post on this thread, but who answers? Toshiba support team?
Thank you
Hello
You said, did you check if the device is properly installed in Device Manager. Is there a red X on the wlan module in the list? And he must have this name: RTL8187B.There are several ways to enable the wlan on your laptop. One, is the hardware switch of your laptop, the other thing you can try is a combination of FN to FN + F8.
You can control if the WiFi is working when you see the symbol of the LED is on or not. Finally, it is a forum for user to user here.

I managed to break (don't ask how) my hard drive on my laptop Satellite L30.
He will have to find another.Could someone help me find where I need?
Bravo guys
Hi Matt
Have you tried to search this forum for more information?
There are many discussions on models of different laptops and I sure that you might find interesting and useful discussions on the HDD for L30 m.For example, I found this thread:
http://forums.computers.Toshiba-Europe.com/forums/thread.jspa?MessageID=88214The guy said that a 120 GB 2.5 SATA HDD was possible.
I think you could use a bigger HDD as only 120 GB, you can try a 160 GB if you want.Cheers mate

Re: How to restore to factory on my Satellite L40 - 18Z?
I'm trying to restore my laptop to factory settings; It's a Toshiba Satellite L40 - 18z. I tried the F8 procedure it did not work, also was in backup and Food Center, but it leaves me only the backup files. I guess I m going to need a disc, I'm OK, any help would be appreciated.
Gary
Yes you are right. You need for installation of recovery image recovery disk.
If you n t have it maybe you can order a new one on https://backupmedia.toshiba.eu/landing.aspx
Another solution is to install own OS using the Microsoft installation disc.

Satellite L40 - 18z - what motherboard can use
Hello
my laptop has a motherboard very defective toshiba satellite L40 - 18z model no PSL48E-033008EN.
My question is; are there other phones I could use to replace my motherboard with.I'm looking on ebay etc for a laptop of donors but they are few and far between, where the question on the search for another brand/model that would suit.
Thank you very much.
Hello
Laptop motherboards are always different so that there is not a lot of opportunities.
You must use a motherboard that has been developed for Satellite L40 / Pro L40 series. But note; new motherboard is one expensive laptop parts maybe that it s better to buy a second hand instead of the new motherboard unit. I think it would be a less costly solution
Good bye

No boot sector on hard drive internal?
I got a Dell Latitude D610 with XP Professional pre-installed on a few years ago and it worked fine up until last month. I discovered that the hard drive crashed so I bought a new.
After I installed the new hard drive, when I turn on the computer to reinstall the operating system, I get the error "no boot sector on hard drive internal no bootable devices - strike F1 to retry Reboot, F2 for Setup utility"
Now, whenever I look in the BIOS, it is said that she read my hard drive. (40 GB HARD DRIVE) I know that the drive is empty and the OS installation disc has service pack 2 on it, but when I put the disc in I get the same error message. The drive, which I am using is a clean CD Windows XP Pro I had earlier.
I'm guessing that because the HARD drive is perfectly clean, is it not a MBR hard disk. I don't know how to get the disc to run and the diagnosis says that everything else is fine.
I am a student with a part-time job full time and cannot afford a new laptop or even an operating system for the moment. Could someone help me find a solution to this problem?
OK, I solved the problem:
-J' have torn the XP Pro CD Image and stored on this desktop computer.
-J' mounted the ISO on my flash drive.
-J' took my laptop HARD drive
-On my laptop, I set the BIOS to boot from USB
-I reconnected it the HARD drive while the computer has booted the OS Setup
-J' reinstalled the operating system of the
-Download the drivers on the Dell site and put on another flash drive
-Install the drivers on my laptopNow, it works fine. Like everything new again. Daavee and THIS_IS_INSANE, you two are awesome! Thanks for the help. x]
