Having hard drive problems

OK... Earlier I messed up my hard drive on my laptop. So I got the HP recovery discs, used... I thought that it fixed the problem... but now I look in the properties of my C: / drive & it says that my hard drive is only 25GB.

Which is weird, because he used to say that he was of 250 GB.

So now, he continues to tell me that I'm running out of space on my drive...

Anyone has an idea as to why it is now only show my 25 GB hard drive instead of the real 250 GB is it?

Can I completely format my hard drive and then use the recovery discs to fix?

IM thinking that maybe that could be the problem...

I don't know how to format, either...

I have a HP Pavilion with Vista dv6653cl

any help is appreciated... because I was so excited I thought I fixed the drive then see this problem... knew it was too good to be true...

Help, please! Thank you

Hello MissLaniS,

I understand that you declare your drive hard shows that its only 25GB and not the 250 it is supposed to be, is - that correct? I'll be happy to help you.

This looks like something of a large size is taking to much space or the disk is partitioned incorrectly. You can use the discs that you have to format the disc and that should remove and fix some additions or changes have been made. The recovery discs that you have should reformat your drive and it should return as if it was originally from the box.

Please answer as soon as possible.

Thank you

Re: do everything or send it as it is only 6 months old, it is Bernard did this for 5 months

    Hello

It sounds a bit like a HARD drive problem.
I recommend checking out the HARD drive using a free tool called Drive Fitness Test
This free tool allows you to get more details on the State of the HARD drive and maybe some error would be detected which would mean that HARD drive failures and disk HARD must be replaced.

  • Alternative to the reset by Satellite A660 for potential HARD drive problem

In the last week or two, I got a few blue screens, saying he was driving demand, and that windows must be shut down to avoid damage my computer.

I have just restart and continue working.
The last time it happened, I had repeatedly "initialization failed" and it says hdd, SDS, fdd. If I pressed the power button until I didn't see no signs of activity, then started. Things went well. I called Toshiba support and they recommended that I go home and save my files before continuing. It took hours selectively to clean, sort the previous backups, and a small footprint of the backup system.

When I called Toshiba once again, they recommended a "takeover", which is restoring the factory settings. It puts me in the stone age. I have to go through a never-ending process of the upgrade to Windows 7 Pro 64-bit, install and reconfigure all the applications and environments/configurations, etc. It will essentially take on holiday, if not more. I'll also have to get another computer (maybe a netbook) to stay in touch while I restart my laptop. It's barely more than a year.

Is there a diagnosis I can do to determine the probability that there is a hard drive problem? Support for Toshiba said that is the surest way, because it provides a diagnostic F10 for the hard disk code, and it also pushes the bad sectors at the end of the disc (logically, I suppose, since you can't physically move a fault).

    > About Hitachi DFT, is it important that my HARD drive is Toshiba mk6465gsx? This is what is displayed "Hard drives" in the Device Manager.

It s no matter what HARD drive manufacturer, it is the Drive Fitness Test is able to scan all hard drives to find errors.

    > Also, http://www.hitachigst.com/support/downloads/#DFTshows links to create boot disks, but I was wondering if I could create a bootable instead.

Not sure if this is possible if there is that one option to create a startup disk, and then a flash stick does not work. But of course you can try this out.

    > This laptop does not come with a floppy drive, and I still create coasters trying to burn discs.
You don't need the floppy drive, the tool must create a disk bootable (CD)

  • iMac hard drive problem

My older iMac 8.1 (Intel Core 2), running OS x 10.9 ran slow, then a few application icons disappears from the display, after a restart, the application has stopped working completely. I tried to reinstall OSX, when this does not work, I did a full erase and reinstall it again, still none of my apps does not work. It manifests itself, and when I click it, it does nothing. I even went back to my original OSX 10.6 Snow Leppard and reinstalled drive and my desktop icons appeared for a few minutes and then everthing disappeared. Also, this has happened during execution of 10.9 as well. Now the only thing that the computer be used to mail is electronic and Safari. I can't run programs and do not have access to HD. If I tried to re - install 10.9, it tells me that it is impossible at this time. I think that my HD is dead? You wanted to check before I replaced it. It starts well, can run internet but not impossible to install, download or run programs. Disk First aid indicates that the computer is fine. Can not really afford to buy a new Mac now, so hoping that this can be a cheaper alternative.

How much free space on the hard drive?

There is no 100% way to check the health of a hard disk. Disk utility check alone is doing a part-time job to check the directory structure but not physical integrity of the reader. If you select the top level of a drive in disk utility and then file > retrieves the information of to half way down you can see the report of the SMART State which can indicate if a drive is having problems.  With one of my discs that I checked that feature, but it was not picking up on several defective sectors systematically producing errors.

The only real way to test a faulty hardware on a computer is to isolate the part (normally in the replacement, or do without it) and see if the issues go away.

I always keep a clone bootable backup of my drive on a separate drive so I can still boot from the second disk to see if it's an internal drive error.  Having this type of backup is just a part of the ownership of a computer.

I suppose there is also the possibility, it's another problem as the RAM.  A bad drive would be more consistent as to what elements show problems such as you see.

You can check on sites like ifixit or OWC (macsales.com) for instructional videos on how to replace the disks.

  • Early 2009 iMac running hot. Hard drive problem?

    Hello world

    I have an early 2009 24 "iMac. (iMac9, 1, 2.93 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo). I am currently using OS X 10.11.4.

This problem started, summer 2014. My iMac has been in storage a year since March 2015. Here's the problem, when it started it was summer and very hot. I didn't have air conditioning. I got this iMac from April 2011. Bought from Mac of all trades. Obviously, they heat up on top, or at least this one does. The hard drive is a Western Digital WDC WD1001FALS-40K1B0, 1 TB drive.

At the point where I was running DiskWarrior, who reported that my hard drive was running too hot. The reader otherwise verified fine and so I downloaded Fans of Mac control, looked up what the operating temperature should be for this hard drive and set it to increase the fan speed, if necessary. Now 5182 rpm, it turns the hard drive cooling fan, and he reports 127,4 ° F. The room temperature is 82.4 °.

Now, let's move forward to this last week. I've had my Mac for storage, he had been in the garage of a friend of year-round, is his box. From the beginning it upward, it froze soon after establishing the office. I started on the recovery partition, and DiskUtility found that it could not solve problems. So I started from the eDrive TechTool Pro partition and run DiskWarrior. That was fine until the computer froze again. To reboot the partition e could not climb. The recovery partition would enter to Midway through the boot process and then hang. It's the same problem I was trying to start normally.

So after a long day of trying everything (I don't have a disc of starting of any kind, that I still have stuff in storage), the Mac finally started in the recovery partition. I ended up having to reformat the hard drive, make a new installation of 10.11 and restoration of my Time Machine backup.

After another day of tweaking, everything worked fine. Except the drive is always hot.

Today, it's back to freezing on me. I started the eDrive and TechTool Pro check sensors and generate a SMART report. The SMART report verified the reader, but watch it turns slightly on the warm side. And that was with the fans to run fast.

Then, after all that, I'll try to get an opinion on the health of the hard drive. If I put the fans for normal speed, now it is 2638 rpm and increase, and the reader is 138.2 ° F. This seems too hot for me. You can't touch the top of the computer for a long time. It is too hot.

Run the Apple Hardware Test disk two of your original grey install set.

  • M6 Notebook Hard Drive Problems

    Hello

    I have a m6-1045dx Pavilion Notebook, processor i5, 8 GB RAM, 750 GB hard drive @5400 RPM, Windows 8 (upgrade from Win7).

I worked on creating a partition on my hard drive dual-boot Windows and Ubuntu.  In doing so, I found that my hard drive had to be verified by chkdsk.  After trying this and portable computer lock-down, I ran the UEFI component tests and found that the short DST Test failed while the successful optimized DST Test.  What does that mean? Should I try to replace my hard drive, or is there a solution to this problem?

    Thank you in advance!

    Hi pshuff

Failure of the short test (DST) disk Self would indicate the hard drive is faulty and must be replaced. If you can still access Windows, I would backup all my personal files etc as soon as possible.

If your laptop is still under warranty, contact HP directly with the id of the failure of 24 digits, having the replaced disk.

    Thank you

  • New X120e: slowdown in hard drive problems

Hello. I bought a brand-new x120e last month and I feel stutters intermittent video (but not audio usually). He plays very well for a few minutes, then I get massive frame drops and resumes after a few seconds. This problem can be seen with mpeg videos 4 code of SD resolution. Initially I suspected that my videos have been corrupt, but they are actually perfectly fine (even video will be stutter at various points. They are also very well on other machines). I tried at least 10 different videos, and the problem can be seen in each of them.

I tried VLC, windows media, classic CCCP Media Player, player and they all have the same problem.

When I look at the CPU usage history, there is no unusual spikes or falls in the use of the CPU for stuttering (constant at 20% or more).

I had the same problem with the stock drivers. I installed the latest update of drivers and bios Lenovo site but same problem (I also tried the drivers far more directly from AMD, but uninstalled prompty them because they seem to break the brightness of the screen.) Unfortunately I forgot to try video playback).

I tried to disable all the options from the Catalyst Control Panel, but no improvement in video post-processing.

I'm sure this isn't malware or virus related - I have MS security essentials running home and I didn't download all applications other than steam, chrome and above media players.

Flash (youtube, etc) and video Netflix seem unaffected.

I suspected that maybe my HDD wakes up from his sleep after a few minutes of inactivity, but I doubt that's it. Power management settings are defined so that my hard drive goes to sleep after 15 minutes of inactivity, but the saccade occur more often than that. (Besides, I don't think that video playback counts as inactivity)

Any who are having similar problems?

    Thank you.

While I was watching the resource monitor during playback of movies, and there are spike use highly visible hard drive for stuttering. I tried to increase the size of buffer in VLC settings and that seems to help a lot.

But I found a behavior more disturbing while experimentation. It seems that whenever there is any vibrations or movements, the drive slows down. This could be constantly observed by typing or moving the laptop while the benchmark of HARD drive is running. It is about half of what he would normally get.

I don't know if this is a defect or some sort of safety mechanism, but I have half a mind to replace it with the SSD. Users of laptop lenovo saw something like that?

EDIT: Well, too bad. I have discovered that now the Protection System Control Panel activates that allows me to set the sensitivity.

  • HP Pavilion G6-1D69CA - hard drive problem

Hi, I had this HP G6 for over a year and guaranteed missed a few months ago. It is the second laptop I got from HP. It was a replacement for my HP 2000 model who broke in less than half a year. It broke now. When I try to start the laptop takes me to the screen of SMART hard disk error hard drive 1 list (301). When I try to take stock of hard disk in the diagnostic system it fails and he gives me this failure ID: 90EC0C - 5 T 5709-MFGH5A-608703. My question is that replace HARD drive would solve this problem? If Yes, what models can replace this with? Should it be as SMART compatible.

Yes replacing the hard drive would solve the problem. You can use any hard drive laptop 2.5 inch SATA; they are the industry standard. All hard drives are compatible SMART and not having CHIP would be like having a car with no lights on dash oil pressure. You can remain in blissful ignorance while the parties fail around you and do you more damage as you keep rolling.

Post back and we can walk helps you purchase, install, and upgrade the software on a new hard drive. It will cost less than US $100... as low as $60, depending on the size and speed.

  • Hard drive problems Windows Vista Ultimate Edition

Well guys, that it left me speechless.  I recently inherited a laptop from a friend who is fairly new and in good condition.  The laptop, a Toshiba Techra A9, installed Windows Vista Ultimate.  The problem that I seem to have with the laptop is that it will start Windows in normal mode but gets up to a certain point and then hangs up.  I can hear the drive trying to be rolled up and continues to make a rattling noise, similar to a folder that jumps.  The funny thing is that I can turn the machine off and restart in SafeMode w / networking with no problems.  I tried a hard drive cool to think the problem could be a faulty drive, however, the new drive does the same thing.  I installed Vista via the Toshiba Recovery CD, and from the beginning for the first time Windows has frozen, the new hard drive making the same noise as the old.  Anyone out there have any ideas why this is happening?  Install a new hard drive and having the same problem son believe me that it is related Windows or I'll have another hardware problem elsewhere on the machine.  Thank you!!

Try to check the drivers on the computer to the hard drive. If you can, go to the MMC Console in computer management, go to the Device Manager, and then in the console tree, you should see a line of 'hard drives. Down there, you should be able to see your hard drive. Right-click and click Properties, then go to the drivers of the popup window and note the driver version number. Check on the Toshiba site and see if there are updates to the hard disk driver. If there is, then install it. In addition, you can start safe mode and run your antivirus, assuming that he himself has not been compromised. It seems to be a software problem or driver since you say that you can start safe mode. • Property to external hard drive problem

I bought a hard drive external 1 TB and kept on taking backup of my scattered locations, once I take backup of my old laptop having XP, I was refused access to certain folders, so I changed the property by reading the guides of weird responses from the user administrator.

Now every time I use the same 1 TB harddrive in other/different computers that I have the same problem everywhere and I need to transfer ownership every time with the new computer, and then again when I'm back in the old computer it dosent work and I have to repeat the same thing again and again and again.

Is there a cure for this... plaese suggest... I want it to work like the other normal hard drive... it should work with all computers without changing the security again and again option. I have nothing to encrypt or hide other users.

  • Copying files between hard drives problem

    Hello

I have problems copying files between hard drives on my computer. I was having this problem on Windows 7 and Windows Vista, but never met him on XP.  It seems that there are several similar topics, but I think I've noticed a few oddities in my own experience...

I have several drives, between 500 GB ~ 1 TB.  Problems arise when I try to copy a folder with a large number of files (pictures, records about 4 GB in size, typically).  Initially, the transfer rate would be HD burst speed, somewhere between 90 MB to 150 MB.  Speed would be reduced to about 30 MB, or even lower.  The transfer ends by becomes so slow that the operation would take hours to complete.  If I try to cancel, it would take minutes to do.  The computer run slowly for a long period of time, with an offset of intermittent until I have to reboot the system.  This occurs regardless the source and destination drives.

On some Samsung drives, this problem is actually lead to the corruption of data on the source and destination drives and i/o error messages.  CHKDSK runs at startup, try to solve the problem, but the data would be lost or unreadable disc.  I have since thrown the Samsung WD drives, do not have IO error, but the file copy problem persists.  I also disabled chkdsk at startup for all readers.

My drivers and Bios are up-to-date.  Computer is free of viruses and malware.  I have no more trouble with Windows 7.  Curiously, if I compress my folders/files in one RAR file, I have no problems copying (transfer rate remains stable at 30 ~ 50MB).  This leads me to believe that this is not a hardware problem, but a problem with the Explorer of solutions, and that respect more particularly with the number of files transferred rather than size.  (But unpacking these files also lead to poor performance sometimes...)

Is this a known issue that will be corrected?  I really like Win7, but because I work with large number of files and many backups all the time, stability during the file copying is a must.  I have perhaps to go back to XP, or use another OS entirely...

    I had the same problem;

    My system-

    Windows 7 Pro 64
    Core i7 940
7200 RPM dual 500 GB SATA
    Gigabit ethernet

    Gigabit ethernet switch
    Gigabit router

Buffalo NAS 1 TB, RAID 0, Gigabit Ethernet

How to disable TCP AutoTuning and receive scalability side

    1. Open a prompt with administrator rights.
    2. Type the following commands, and press enter (the second command on RSS is optional):

netsh interface tcp set global autotuninglevel = disabled
