HDD and SSD mounting additional h/s

I have an a1700n system A8M2N - LA which is 2 years old. I just installed a second 250 GB of HARD drive, which works fine, but the installation of the drive is not secure. I can't reach the back of the grid that holds the drive bays (the other side of the car that has threaded holes), so there is not any screws now in place. I screw centering on the open side and one overlaps the rail to prevent it from sliding back. Are there instructions from HP or users who show a stable way to mount the 2nd HARD drive?

My next question is about editing a new 60 GB SATA II OCZ SSD. The drive is a form of 2.5 "and for a 3.5 drive Bay". Y at - it an available at HP conversion kit or a seller that this is fixed as well.

Thank you

Hi Obelisk,

You're in luck. HP provides more good instructions to add or remove hardware in the PC. Here is a document with video on how to replace HD:

Here is a link to the section of your product support page that contains other docs on hardware updates/changes:

  • Mobile OS from HDD and SSD 16 GB Express SSD Cache (HP Envy H8 - 1520t)

    Product number: C9D47AV #ABA

    Serial number: [personal information deleted]

I recently bought a new desire and while I had originally planned on just using the 1 TB HDD as well as 16 GB of cache to boot the system, I decided to go with a 120 GB Samsung SSD 840 for where I want my OS to be.

After reading a lot of posts and have tried to do it myself last night, I know it will be a pain.  I saw a few solutions on the forum I'll try tonight and I don't want to revisit old but I do not see anyone mentioned have a 16 GB SSD cache for the computer to start from.  Does make a difference in what I like?

If I am able to well to clone the current HARD drive can I spend with the 16 GB Sandisk Disk Cache?  I can live with keeping the 16 GB startup disk, using the SSD 120 GB for my OS and find another use for the 1 TB HARD drive, but ideally, I would like to boot directly from the 120 GB SSD and use the HARD disk of 1 TB as additional storage space.

Thanks in advance for reading this.

Thanks in advance for reading this.

    Hello

SSD 16 GB cache is primarily for you to have a faster access to your data.

Before installing the os or the image you want to make the current system, it's better that you create a recovery Kit using the HP software to create the installation DVD for your device.

At any time, you want to restore your system to its original configuration, simply launch the Kit.

Now, with respect to the imaging system and having it installed on the SSD, how do you intend to do? What software will you use to perform this task?

    Thank you

  • HP Envy 6 - 1010ea HDD and SSD upgrade

    Hello

I am looking to remove the existing HARD drive and msata SSD with the largest capacity as a 120 / 240 GB msata SSD and 1 TB + HDD for primary storage.

I know that come from 2.5 "HDD in a number of variations, especially when it comes to the height of the car you can get 12.5 mm, 7mm, 9.5 mm and 15 mm and adapted plant Hitachi TravelStar Z5K500 is 7x70x100mm (WxHxD), so I was wondering what the larger physical size HARD drive I can hold inside is.

Also are the dimensions on standard msata drives? and are there recommendations for msata SSD and 2.5 "HARD disk.

    Thanks in advance.

No, you are limited for the ultrathin drives of 7mm.

  • XPS 8500 - replacement HDD and SSD

I'm looking to upgrade of storage on my my Dell XPS 8500... My question here is twofold:

    1. I want to replace my current 2 TB HDD (disk storage) with a 4 TB or 5 TB of HARD drive. I will be able to use and see the full 4-5 to? Or is this a case where I will not be able to use the entire disk or will need to score? Y at - it an update of the BIOS that will allow me full access to training?
    2. I am also looking to replace my mSATA 256GB SSD (boot drive) with a 500 GB mSATA SSD... will it be any problem read this disk after installation (plan to do a clean install of Windows and reload my programs)?

Thanks for your help. Hoping to update soon, but did not buy until I knew what I was getting myself into.

Its a fairly recent machine with a UEFI BIOS, so it should be good... If you have already upgraded to Windows 10 then your system is already a unit of 10 windows and you should be able to clean the Windows 10 installation on the new SSD. If you haven't you should upgrade now as free upgrade expires tomorrow. #

You must use the SATA AHCI operation. I assume you have your system already set up this way as you already have a 256 GB mSATA.

  • Windows OS 8.1 transfer between HDD and SSD on laptop (built-in two disks)

Hi, I have an Alienware Laptop, 14, I wanted to transfer/copy/move my current OS (Windows 8.1) of my HDD (1 TB) to my (7.3 GB) SSD. I tried many methods I've seen online in other forums, I restored my computer whenever I between methods, when they fail. Yet, I need to find an effective way to do... I tried the following:

    -Start switched from AHCI RAID
-Transformed into legacy prioritize boot from a USB device and tried to run AlienRespawn and Windows OS 8.1 (drawn from Microsofts website), twice, on two USB keys separate (both about 15 GB of storage).

The result of AlienRespawn was simply did a cover of my HARD disk drive and my OS remained where he was, nothing has changed with my SSD. That being said, there is no selection in my START menu to choose which drive I want to start, for that, I guess I have to unplug my HARD drive so that it my laptop self chooses to run by using the SSD.

The result of the execution of the USB with the operating system of Microsoft 8.1 is it says some sort of error, I googled the error online, he says to reformat the USB key and drop the operating system on it, and then try again. I did that twice, and both times found the same result (same error).

I also tried to clone my HARD drive of my SSD using EaseUS, who put my documents and files on my SSD, but my BONE was still running on the HARD drive.

I cloned partitions with Partition Master, with negative results, as well as using Tuxboot and Clonezilla combo to start my laptop using Clonezilla, but at the start he just asked me to remove all USB devices that did not have an operating system on them (I had a USB in)

I also tried a few different USB sticks (I went out and bought three to try).

The more recent method, I tried with the help of DiskPart. I executed what she says on many forums/sites, which involved cleaning/selection/activation disk 0 or no matter which drive my SSD was on. But once again, no result no positive.

I'm desperate, I want to just run my OS on my SSD laptops, is it really so hard, or I'm just using the wrong methods and/or measures hurt?

If anyone can help with a step by step guide that worked for them, please enlighten me!

    Thank you very much.

I did a lot of research ahead, and this program kept coming as the way the simpler, cleaner to move the operating system, according to the people about these and other bodies.

  • NB305 and SSD

I recently bought a NB305 for professional use (need for portability and battery life)

I have a question about. I would like to install a 128 GB Kingston SSDNow V-Series Disc both improve performance and independence.

My questions are, will this work SSD made?

It will give me a decent increase in performance? (the SSD in my office are wonderful)

It will improve the battery life?

The reason why I ask what should otherwise be easy to answer the questions, is that specific data for the HDD and SSD cards are as follows:

Hitachi HTS545025B9A300 (5K 500. (B) icurrently in my laptop drive:
    Power plug: writing/power 1.4W
    0.5W low idle power
    875 Mbps (109.38MBps)

    Kingston SSD now V Series SNV125-S2 / 128GB 2.5 ":"
Active power Specs: 5.2 w (TYP)
    Sleep: 0.7W (TYP)
    Sequential speed *.
    ~ 1600Mbps (200 Mbit/s). read; 160 MB/sec writing.

Now look at that the SSD is much faster, but seems to come at a cost: she uses more than 3 times the power!

Can it be good? (and same idle is higher!)

The numbers in a row are the Web sites of respective manufacturers / PDF files so you would think that they would be fairly accurate.

Of course, the SSD almost twice as fast - but "apparently" uses more than three times the power!

I look forward to any thoughts.

    See you soon,.
    Rick

    > My questions are, will this work SSD made?
Why not? SSDS are no different from hard drives, I think you will need a SATA SSD since the NB300 series supports a SATA HDD controller

    > It will give me a decent increase in performance?
Well, access to data should be faster and therefore you should see better performance but to be honest, the NB300 is a notebook where these small performance increases would not really important

    > Improve the battery life?
Hmm perhaps but if yes then an improvement is not really noticeable since the disk HARD is not the main part which wastes the energy of the battery

  • Why HP only allow more big hard drives and SSD when restoring Images of original & software OS system?

8.1 Windows recently damaged my PC h8-1559 (still under warranty). All was not if badly grown f11 empty blue screen and boot BSOD loop was the only thing besides the BIOS that I could see. I must have spent days trying to get Win 8 on my SSD after you purchase this month of PC. Now I have to restore PC to original specifications and again migrate the OS back to SSD. Not really a problem I expect no support, given how much anti-'customize' computers became under software and hardware developers who blame or place the responsibility on each other for the most part.

    I just want to know:

That HP decided smaller HDD and SSD should never be allowed to use the pre-built PCs and why? More importantly, why has it remained for many years after many complaints over the years? Thank you.

    Hey Hastatus

I can understand your frustration, but the smaller reader that works is 160 GB. The way the image is put on the disk and extended requires a lot of partitions and each of them is created to a certain height, these sizes were decided before the SSD, and when disk space was not that great, a case, but it was arbitrary. As SSD became more popular and used in some of our systems we made some special changes in plants in order to allow a 60 GB drive to use. But the changes were not made to any other builds, there was not only considered.

As SSD became more popular, they are also grew in size, so the decision was made to leave the requirement of 160 GB. It's not a way to go back and change to the older, but we will spend this feedback to our engineering teams.

Bottom line - usable - more small disk 160 GB regardless of the type (HDD or SSD).

    Sorry not information just solution.

  • Pavilion dv6-1255-EA: upgrading ram and HDD to ssd

Hello, my laptop (pavilion dv6 1255-EA portable entertainment I bought 6 years with core 2 due processor, 4 GB ram, 500 GB HDD and AMD catalyst HD 1 GB graphics card) is running a bit slow so I however get a new ssd and / or more than ram would make it faster, I currently have 4 GB of ram and 500 GB hard drive installed in my laptop and I was woundering what are those that I can? Are crucial bullsticks 8 GB of ram and 7 with 9 in ssd adapter compatible? I need an answer as soon as possible because I saw some discounts on these on amazon so that I won't have to wait for black Friday to get them again. And it would also be good if someone also indicates what screwdriver I use.

    Hey @Ajijawi,

Thank you for visiting the HP Forums! A place where you can find solutions for your problems with the help of the community!

I came across your post on the HP Pavilion dv6 - 1255ee Entertainment Notebook and eager to replace the hard drive of 9.5 mm or increase the RAM. Even if it could adapt to the Notebook ok. Queues screws could be different. Here is a link to your service manual page 69 for the hard card. I would really check this before buying new HARD drive. You may need to change so it does not move. The 500 GB SATA 6 GB/s SSD internal SSD 2.5 "would work for this model of laptop including that you have an AMD System.

This laptop supports up to 8 GB memory system DDR2, 800 MHz, PC2-6400, page 1-DIMM 32 of the manual above.

    I hope this helps.

    Thank you.

  • Pavillion N221SV: Guard and SSD 3D player

I installed an SSD as my main hard drive and moved the hard drive mechanics Moose instead of the optical drive.

    (1) drive 3D guard is still installed and active. This will cause a problem on the SSD or do I uninstall 3D drive guard?

    (2) keeps 3D player also acts on the secondary drive, that is, as stated above, a mechanical hard drive?

    @Massimo1 ,

Hello and thanks for the display on the HP support forums.  Well first of all 3D player keep is there to protect damage to your arm to scan hard disks and plates.  Thus, an SSD has no mechanical parts will be no need of this.   It would have been better for you to leave the original configuration, as it was and put the SSD in secondary education.  If you need to send your laptop in for repair, you will want to remove the DSS.  In most cases it won't.

As much as the main in the second span drive I don't know if he responds on the secondary drive.

In addition to this now that you're running and SSD you want to avoid to defragment this drive.

Here is a link that may be useful.

  • Replace the HDD with SSD in 15-j171nr

I want to do an Exchange standard by removing the 750 GB 5400 RPM SATA HDD and replace it with a 250 GB SSD. What I want to know is if I take out the HARD drive and 24 GB SSD cache, I may be able to upgrade with a 8 GB of additional ram, since I no longer have conflict with the hybrid hard drive?

Yes No problem. You could indeed move to 16 GB of RAM, even with the current configuration. However, the powerful optimal configuration is an SSD in the location of primary SATA hard drive and no WSSD and 16 GB of RAM.

  • How to re - combine a HD and SSD in a player of "Fusion".

    Hi all

Well, this process has floored me know how much time lost, he created and how the problem occurred in the first place.

I am wanting to do a clean install of El Capitan on iMac late 2014 retina with El Capitan with a 1 TB drive merger 10.11.6.

Boot from an external hard drive with OS X utility disk 10.11.4, wouldn't let me simple deletion of the reader. He came up with the error message "removing logical volume of the logical volume group cannot delete the storage base logical volume...". »

So I started to investigate this problem and found:

    estorage-logical-volume-from-the-Terminal http://Apple.StackExchange.com/questions/136590/How-can-i-Delete-a-partition-Cor

Who publishes various other forum known as the best solution to the problem. Knowing that I hate to use the terminal, I dove in full anyway. I was reformatting disks on Mac for 20 years without needing terminals?

I got so far as to remove the existing with logical group:

    sudo diskutil cs deleteLVG

and now the HD and SSD drives appear on the desktop as a empty volumes (which is fine, I don't need to save anything).

But now, try to use the:

sudo diskutil mergePartitions HFS+ "Apple_HFS Macintosh HD" (and different combinations of drive locations)

results only in "the data partitions are not of the same disc.

This is what I see with the "diskutil list; ECHO; Cs diskutil list "command in terminal.

I have no idea how recombine the separate HD and SSD drives in one drive of Fusion, with which I can then do a clean installation of El Capitan. Can someone please!

Also, how can quickly and safely erase a disc from Fusion in the future? I need to deploy a new image of master with all our software top one another 10 times, and I want to completely erase the readers for clean installs (with Migration Assistant for about 8 years, moving from a system has resulted in a lot of weird and wacky behaviour on our Macs) and it is time for a clean install for each of them.

Again, I'd be very happy any help on this.

    -Alex

Please read this message before doing anything. If you don't feel confident that you can follow the instructions, ask someone more experienced to help you.

This procedure applies only to an iMac or a Mac mini with a drive installed in the smelter.

You must read these instructions while no web browser is running, so either print them or load them onto another device before you start.

    1. all the data on the internal disks will be deleted, including Boot Camp data, which are not saved by Time Machine. You need at least two complete and independent backups. A backup is not enough to be sure. There are ways to back up a computer that is not fully functional. Ask if you need advice.

    2. you will need to start one recovery system other than the one on the internal hard drive (if he has one.) There are several ways to do so.

    a. If you have a backup time of the Machine (not a network backup), or a compatible Mac OS X installation on an external drive, then you should be able to start it by holding down press option key to start ringing. Select the external hard drive in the row of icons that is displayed. I mean by "compatible", an installation running on the machine. A version of Mac OS X that is older than the machine is not compatible.

    b. If you used Recovery Disk Wizard (or can use it now) to prepare a system recovery on a USB flash drive, you can start that by pressing the C button on the ring. No icons will appear. Startup will be much slower than usual.

    c. start the Internet recovery mode by pressing the key combination command-option-R to start ringing. Release the keys when you see a spinning globe. Select a language, if you are prompted.

Note: You need an Ethernet or Wi - Fi connection to Internet to use the features of recovery network. It will not work with modems USB or PPPoE, proxy servers or networks that require a certificate for authentication.

    3. disconnect all other external storage devices.

What happens then depends on what version of recovery that you are running.

☞ If the machine came with OS X 10.10 ("Yosemite"), 10.9 ("Swat") or 10.8 ("Mountain Lion"), and you're in the recovery of the Internet, please take step 4a and skip step 4 b.

☞ otherwise, go to step 4 and go to step 4B.

If you are unsure which version of Mac OS X, the machine came with, search for it on this page.

After taking these steps apply, you must have a reader of empty Fusion named 'Macintosh HD' on which you can perform a 7 step or step 7B.

    4. repair of the Fusion drive (see "Troubleshooting" on the linked page.) Quit disk utility and go to step 7A or 7B step. Skip steps 4, 5 and 6.

    4. in the OS X screen utility, select get online help. Safari will launch. While in recovery, you will have no access to your Favorites, but you won't need them. Load this web page.

    5. triple - click anywhere in the line below to select this option:

    N=Macintosh\ HD; for d in /dev/disk?; do o=`diskutil info $d`; for D in SSD HDD; do eval [[ ! \"\$$D\" ]] && grep -lqw "APPLE $D" <<< "$o" && eval $D=$d; done; [[ "$SSD" && "$HDD" ]] && break; done; diskutil cs create "$N" $SSD $HDD && diskutil cs createLV "$N" jhfs+ "$N" 100%

It is a very long line, and you won't see it on the web page. Be sure to select the entire line, not just the part that you can see.

Copy the selected text in the Clipboard by pressing Control-C key combination.

Quit Safari. You go back to the OS X Utilities screen.

    6. in the menu bar, select

    Utilities ▹ Terminal

Launch the Terminal application. Paste in the Terminal window by pressing the command-V key combination. Wait for a new line ending with a number sign (#) to appear. If nothing happens, press the return key.

Quit the Terminal must be returned to the main screen.

    7. If you have a Time Machine backup, connect the device to backup and restore your data. If you have saved to a network like a time Capsule device, it must be connected automatically.

7B. If you do not have a Time Machine backup, or if you can not restore from Time Machine backup that you do not have, install OS x Restore data later in The Migration Wizard.

In the Internet recovery mode, you install the original version of Mac OS X comes with the machine. If you have upgraded the operating system on the App Store, you will need to do it again.
