Help deleting photos duplicated in photos & Iphoto

I'm looking to remove (thousands of) unwanted duplicate from my mac photos. I understand that the Photos and iphoto share the same original photo file in order not to duplicate these and create more clutter on my hard drive. I also understand that the removal of a photo of Photos does not iPhoto (which keeps the image on my hard drive) delete it. Is someone can you please tell me if both share the same library? I see a library that looks like this on my HD: Iphoto Library.photolibrary. I thought delete the iphoto application and its library (after a backup) and working on the Photos application library cleaning to permanently purge all unwanted photo files. (I don't want to purge the photos at two stages of creation of the work twice). I then just use the photos as my main photo resource app and let iphoto behind. I guess my main question is, are there two separate libraries? And if so where can I find them in order to delete the iphoto library without harming the photo library? I see also that there are various photo in double eliminator software programs but whatever the big question is how really to delete unwanted files from the HD of my Mac? Thanks, Larry

. Is someone can you please tell me if both share the same library?

Photos and iPhoto have different libraries, because the formats are different.

You a reveal the current photo in the Finder library, if you open the Photos > Preferences. In the "General" preferences tab is a button 'show in Finder '. This button will reveal your current library, you don't need to remove.  Your iPhoto library will be in the same folder, unless you have moved it.

I would like to make a backup copy of your library on an external drive iPhoto, before remove you it from your system disk.  This way you will be able to start from your iPhoto, problems library.  I would not delete the application iPhoto in the Applications folder.  Apple stopped selling iPhoto and I very hard to get it back. You may need it later if you need to detect the problem of your library that can only be fixed in iPhoto.

  • Help deleting photos in album and 'Photos' in the Apple photo software?

I want to remove the file from the photo of an album created, but also removed it from my 'Photos' / 'All the Photos' (sometimes described as unicameral roll) on my library of MacBook Pro Photos without having to go through the button remove the process twice.  Someone knows a shortcut?

    My approach:

I download my photos from my camera and then divide them into 'Albums' I really hate the film.  It's like having 17 000 photos in a big shoebox by date order.  Its incredibly difficult to see all the pictures of a season of baseball and football, etc. because they are scattered in several weeks/months.  I take all the pictures belonging to an 'event' (birthday, baseball, football season) and create an album date/name for it.  Now that my photos are well ranked in "events" I can look and throw the bad ones.  However, when I remove the album, the picture always ends in the film.  I want it completely removed from my laptop that I don't want the clutter and the need to preserve space.  I then have to go again in the "Photos / camera roll" or "All Photos" and find the photos I just delete the album and then delete them again.  It is very hard and heavy.  Can I use a Smart Album query and search for all photos Non-Album.  If I made my picture original assignments album properly, all the photos I removed from said album should show in the query.  If I can do a delete everything in this smart album.

I want just a simpler method to remove/take a photo from an album that he has permanently removed from my laptop.

Is it possible that I can choose to have a question pop up when deleting which States "do you want this / these photos deleted from the album only or moved to the recently deleted zone?  Or y at - it a solution I'm missing?

Remove Photos from a photo 1.2 library

    1. regardless where you are in the library, i.e. Moments, collections, albums, smart albums or projects, select the photos you want to remove, use the command + delete keyboard shortcut to move the photos to the recently deleted smart album.

2 - Click on the albums smart recently deleted in the sidebar.

    3. in the recently deleted album, you can opt to leave the photo automatically delete after the 30-day waiting period is in place, remove them immediately or restore them in the library.

NOTE: deleting a photo from an album, slideshow, book, etc., only the delete key only deletes this picture of this element. Removal of a photo of a Moment or the Collection removes ALL occurrences of this photo in the library.

Check the settings on your iPhone.  Have you enabled iCloud photo library in the settings > iCloud > Photos on your iPhone?  Or "my photo stream?

If you have iCloud library active on your and your iPhone photos sync iCloud and from there will to all your devices.

If you do not want to synchronize on your iPhone photos, clear the iCloud photo library, but do not allow to delete photos from iCloud, or they will be removed the Mac as well.  With the removal of your iPhone, wait until all iCloud photo options have been disabled.

  • How to recover permanently deleted photos iOS?

Recently, I accidentally deleted photos of my camera and later permanently erased from the recently deleted folder and forget they were there. I only have backups iCloud. I don't have any iTunes ones. I tried the deletion and restoration of two backups. A for a few days and the other nearly two weeks ago. Two of them restore all photos of how they were after the pictures have been permanently despite them being backups before the deletion took place. These photos are gone for good? It seems to me that they are. I thought for sure the backups restore them, but they did not. Any help would be appreciated. There are additional methods, I can try that I have not already? Thank you.

If you have been synchronized with iCloud, using a computer, go to iCloud.com/Photos to see if they are there, but I doubt they will. Looks like they are gone for good.

  • Recover deleted photos - camera SD card

I deleted photos of my DSLR Nikon SD card and copies lost during the transition from an old PC to Mac.  The camera shop said that using free software such as https://www.cardrescue.com/ will recover them.  I do not want to download anything which could conflict/damage my Mac and would be grateful if someone could share their knowledge with me.

    I use OS x Yosemite.

    Thank you.  Chris

I've never used of CardRescue, but currently, it gets good reviews on CNET Download site.  Here are a few alternatives, you can consider:

    (1) If you have questions about the use of CardRescue after reviewing the information on your iMac you get here, you can ask your Apple dealer or a training center for help.

    (2) If you really want to be sure that CardRescue cannot cause you any problem, you can install it on your Mac "spare", try to recover your files with it and then erase CardRescue if you do not want to leave it on the computer.  If you encounter problems after using CardRescue, you can erase the disc of the CMA and reinstall OS X before you reuse this Mac.

    (3) use CardRescue on your Mac only, make a backup of the Mac. Then download and install CardRescue, use CardRescue to try your recovery image file, then do a full your backup restorebefore using your Mac. Although this approach will require a lot of time and effort, it allows you to use CardRescue without leaving any trace of it on your Mac.

  • How do I delete photo albums and send them to an external hard drive?

Newbie here and thankful for any help.

I have been scanning a lot of old photos.  I bought a WD My Passport for Mac.  I would like to remove some old albums of photos scanned photos and put them on My Passport.  How to achieve this?  Also, do I buy an external hard drive right or should I format it?  Clerks in Best Buy make it sound so simple... "Just put your photos on an external hard drive.

I guess I should mention that I have defined iCloud for storing photos and I have a time capsule airport put in place.

Thanks to anyone who can help me!

Also, do I buy an external hard drive right or should I format it?

What is the file system of the reader?

Select the icon for the drive in Finder, and then press the combination of keys ⌘I (abbreviation of "file > read information").

The info panel displays the file system in the genres section:

If the file system is not Mac OS extended (journaled) reformat the drive with disk utility before you move all data to it.  Formatting will erase it.

The procedure is explained here for Aperture, but it goes the same for Photos: external drives Format Mac OS extended before using with Aperture - Apple Support

I have been scanning a lot of old photos.  I bought a WD My Passport for Mac.  I would like to remove some old albums of photos scanned photos and put them on My Passport.  How to achieve this?

Save your photos on external hard drive, you have two options - just save the INDIVIDUAL photos or save the photo library.

It would be better to copy your photo library on disk. This way you will save the versions published with all the metadata that you added and the original images in the quality is.

If you export photos you need to make your choice, if you want to export the edited versions or the original versions, or both.

    • To save the library, do it just from the pictures on the external drive folder.
    • To save the individual photos, open one of your albums, then select all photos with ⌘A, then use the command "file > export > export... photos ' and select one a high-quality format t the original size. Do this for all the photos. Check if the export went well, before you delete photos from the library.  To remove photos from an album using the ⌘⌫ key combination command + DELETE.

Empty the recently deleted album only after that you convinced yourself that the exported photos are OK and you have a backup.

  • deleted photo albums are reproduced after every ios update

After every ios update and a reboot there is old on my iphone and ipad photo albums that I deleted a long time ago (I created these albums if you use iphoto, but I deleted them on my mac after I went to photos). To my knowledge, there is therefore no these albums on my mac more. The app iphoto and iphoto library have been entirely removed from my Mac. So, where did they come from? I do not use icloud photo sync or something. Just sync albums selected with my devices via itunes.

I found a method to remove unwanted albums of my devices first unchecking an album in itunes and then sync again. But on the next update, as if by magic they reappear. Anyone an idea what to do, then these ghost albums don't happen again after my next update?

    Hello there, hkr1234.

It seems you see sync photo albums on your iOS device that you removed from your iPhoto and Photos for the libraries of Mac. One of the possible reasons for the behavior you see, it's the folder iPod Photo Cache is created when you synchronize your phone always contains the information for these photos. The following Knowledge Base article proposes in-depth measures to remove this folder, in effect, resetting so that it is created again the next time that you sync photos to your device.

On the folder for Cache Photo iPod

Delete this folder does not remove the original images in your library, and the file will be recreated the next time you sync photos with your iPhone, iPad or iPod.

The location of this folder depends on the synchronization options you select in iTunes. In iTunes, if you change the selection in the menu synchronize Photos, it will create a folder iPod Photo Cache (and the previous record will remain).

    Photos, iPhoto or Aperture

If you're syncing from a photo, iPhoto or Aperture library, follow the steps below to find the folder iPod Photo Cache in its default location:

    1. From the Finder, choose go > home of the bar menu at the top of your computer screen. If you have moved your library of Photos, iPhoto library or Aperture library to a different location, go to this location.
    2. Open the pictures folder and locate the library of Photos, iPhoto or Aperture Library library file.
    3. Control - or right click the file, and then choose view the contents of the Package on the shortcut menu.
    4. In the window that opens, click on and drag the cover Photo iPod folder to the trash.
Don't delete or change any other file in the library package. Remove or modify other files can result in loss of data.
    5. Close the window.

    {...}

A folder on Mac OS X, Windows XP, Windows Vista, Windows 7, Windows 8, or 10

The iPod Photo Cache will be in the folder you selected to synchronize with.

    To learn more

    • The Cache Photo iPod folder may be larger than the size of the photos being synchronized.
    • The iPod Photo Cache size can vary depending on the device is synchronized. A device of the higher resolution, more iPod Photo Cache will be.
    • If you are synchronizing with multiple devices, your iPod Cache can contain several optimizations of the same images.
