  Hmm. You can hear the sound using headphones but you can't hear speakers that well it looks really a speaker problem, but it s really strange that both speakers are dead at the same time

  In your case I would remove the sound card driver and would update with that of the European driver Toshiba page.

  We recommend you to check if the speaker is defined as default playback on your computer device. To do this, try the following steps:
  a. right click on the sound/volume icon in the right corner of the task bar, then click on "adjust audio properties".
  b. click on the Volume tab, click Advanced under Speaker settings, select the speaker and click ok.
  c. click on the tab Audio, audio playback device, select default.
  d. click apply and then click ok.
  e. check if the problem persists.

  no error message, I was watching a movie when my laptop died. I plugged it into the power source and now there is no sound from speakers or headphones when I plug.   Try the following.

  Download IDT Audio Installer on the link below and save it in your downloads folder.

  One time finished, open windows control panel, open Device Manager and open sound, video and game controllers.  Right click on the IDT device and select uninstall - also, you should get a command prompt to delete the current driver, check the box allow this and then proceed to uninstall.

  When you're done, shut down the laptop and perform a "Hard Reset" for your model, as described in the document of HP here.

  One when you're done, press next to the key ESC that you start the computer to launch the Start Menu, then select f10 to open the bios menu.  Press f5 to load the default values (sometimes it's f9, but the menu below indicates the correct key), use the arrow keys to select 'Yes' and press ENTER.  Press f10 to save the setting and still use the arrow keys to select 'Yes' and press on enter.

  Allow Windows to fully - charge it will automatically load an audio driver, but let just this complete.  Then open your download folder, right-click on the IDT Installer and select "Run as Administrator" to launch the installation.  Once this done, do a right-click the speaker icon in the taskbar and select playback devices.  'Speakers and headphones' left click once to highlight, and then click the Set Default button - check if you now audio.

  Got a B120 with XP and SP2 re-installed.  I have no sound from the internal speakers, but the headphone jack works fine.  The speakers work (checked with Dell Diagnostics); played well from there, every time.  Side note - Ubuntu 8.04 live no longer had his No.

  Sometimes I get a notification of the popup of Sigmatel (something about and audio event this - as I plug something at one of the outlets when I did not.)  I usually just select 'status quo '.

  I've scoured the forums and read posts on installing drivers in the correct order.  I tried to uninstall the drivers and related software files so I could continue on their relocation in order.  But, what is happening on the re-start, is that it starts automatically install hardware "found," so I don't get to put them in the order I want. How could avoid this or how do I UN-install/reinstall drivers more effectively.

  When I look in the hardware Manager, everyting seems to be good... except that I get no sound from the speakers.  Sigmatel hardware is selected, sliders are at midway up, nothing is muted, select a system of his event and he seems to play but without sound.

  I recently had problems with my Dell Inspiron 9400/E1705 (vista 32-bit windows operating system). I couldn't get a USB microphone to work and I decided to update the sound card driver. I downloaded and updated what I thought, it was the right driver (sigmatel high definition audio codec) and since there is no sound from speakers. I followed the guide from Dell troubleshooting and disconnect any external devices and then click right click the mixer volume in the system tray, and then clicked on "open volume Mixer" and I get the message: no audio device installed. I went to the control panel to check the sound card driver and he told me that the codec sigmatel high definition audio works well and he has not updated. I unfortunately can't restore the system that system restore installation in my computer stopped working awhile (even when I start windows in safe mode) so I'm stuck. I think that I have installed the wrong driver for the sound card but don't find it not easy to understand which driver to search the dell support center.   If after checking the sound settings package (Panel, controller next to the laptop, etc.) the sound doesn't come out so I guess that the sound card on the Board is dead.

  Type in "change the settings of the sound card" in the search bar and open it. Double-click on your speakers to open the speaker Properties window. In this, go to the tab called Dolby and click the power button in the upper left corner to switch it off.

  I see where several issue after you upgrade to windows 8 for 7 or vista, you have no sound from speakers.

  In case someone runs into this problem going forward, please make sure that:

  1. your laptop is supported for Windows 8.

  AND

  2. There are Audio drivers available for the laptop.

  Method 1: If so, then check if the laptop speakers are set by default.

  a. click on start and then Control Panel.

  b. double-click on sounds and Audio devices.

  c. click on the Audio tab.

  d. make sure that you select the speakers from the laptop as default device in audio playback.

  e. do the same under the voice tab click OK.

  Method 2: Run automated troubleshooting and check if it helps.
