  As Error7103 says, you just posted the msg of error indicates an error to distill. In particular, it seems that you are using a Distiller joboption parameter which may be the origin of the error to distill.

  If you have registered the software, I think that the info is included in your Adobe account information profile, which lists the products associated with your account.

  Then, a point of clarification... you ask about the real serial number, or the key of the software, you need to install / update?

  I'm not sure that the serial numbers are saved in the software at all, but keys are stored in the registry. You can retrieve it with any player of keys; I really like Belarc Advisor. Free from http://www.belarc.com/free_download.html . It is not a bad idea to keep the profile in a safe place, out of your system, just in case you need the info to revive a box on the ground.

• Help with the chapters of the automatic numbering

  I'm a newbie on FrameMaker, that I don't use it very often, so please forgive me if this is a stupid problem. I inherited a FrameMaker manual from the person who was my work in the past and for the first time in three years, I had to add new chapters to the project. I upgraded from 7.2 to 9 recently. However, I'm unable to get the new numbering of correct chapter. From what I could gather the help of FrameMaker, I seem to have these options properly configured:

  • Chapter dialing properties: for example, the first chapter, I've added is defined in chapter No. 21, and continue numbering from previous chapter in book option is selected.
    
  • In the paragraph Designer, format of chapter.number (which is used to display the chapter number on the title page of each chapter) has a formula for C: < n > +, exactly as the other chapters having correct numbering.
  • I checked the options in the text block box customize, and the stream seems OK (tag is A, and automatic connection is enabled). Again, these settings are exactly the same in the previous chapters.

  Despite all this, each new chapter, I added appears in Chapter 1 on the page, in the running footer and title and I can't understand what I'm doing wrong. I am trying to get this book done before I go on vacation Friday and this is my last hurdle, so any help is greatly appreciated.

  Older versions of chassis, chapter numbering has been treated as an AutoNumber paragraph, which seems to be the case in your books. Therefore, your chapter number really is a paragraph number, about Frame is concerned. In more recent versions, chapter numbering is handled with a special building block <$chapnum>, which is what affects the numbering of chapter.

  Then, because your documents have been initially implemented with the old system of automatic paragraph numbering, the easiest thing for you to do is the NUMBERING of the paragraphs for your new chapters continue the numbering of the previous paragraph in the book. This in the book, not the file chapter; in other words, in the book, right click on the chapter file and select numbering. This approach assumes that ANY OTHER numbering in the files, such as figures, is managed with other sets of numbering, i.e. NOT of C:

  If you want to update the numbering system and managing the numbering of chapter numbers chapter, and then in the designer of paragraph for the chapter title format, to replace the C: with <$chapnum>you must do this for each chapter file; an easy way is to do a single file and then import the paragraph format in other files the fixed file open, select other files in the book file, select file > import > Formats, select only the paragraph formats.

• Numbers in TOC with the release of DITA in HTML5

  Very new to FrameMaker. I'm trying to publish a ditamap reactive HTML5 in 2015 FM. When I do, the TOC is numbered (see image). The numbers do not appear in a DPF file. Anyone know how I can disable this option? I can't find it in the settings. I feel that there should be a simple solution.

  Yes, you can exclude the FrameMaker paragraph styles auto-numeros in the output of HTML5:

  1. Open the pod to publish to > file > publish.
  2. Select "Responsive HTML5."
  3. Right-click on 'Responsive HTML5' and select 'change settings '.
  4. Open the tag 'Style Mapping'.
  5. Select the paragraph style that you want to change (for example, "heading 1").
  6. The value "AutoNumber: ' to 'ignore '.
  7. Click "save and close".
  8. Republish.

  

  This should do the trick.

• Why the numbered steps appear as chips in FlashHelp?

  I use TCS3 and imported my contect help of FrameMaker.

  Some of my subjects who are numbered as follows appear as bullets in the generated FlashHelp. Not always this to all my subjects.

  Any ideas why this happens?

• Composite DITAmap books - charge xref

  When building a composite book with FrameMaker documents and have the automatic charge checked XREF, resolves cross-references to headings dita, rather than documents of fm. As a book of fm with fm documents is built, the cross references should point to the fm of documents, not dita/xml files.

  Is this a bug, or is it possible to have cross references pointing to the generated files fm? Do not point to the location of the fm causes problems of cross reference when editing in PDF format under the name of all the links are broken.

  The Ditamap save as book will generate a book with dita topics and is, therefore, it is assumed that references point to xml/dita files.

  When you use "file-> save Ditamap As - book with fm components", the XREF in the generated book review document of the fm and not the original xml/dita file. Therefore, the PDF links also get generated correctly.

  In this case, this isn't the case in this way at your end, so there seems to be a specific reason.

  I will suggest you to try the following steps:

  (1) create the new map.

  (2) create two new topics - 1. DITA & 2. DITA - and add to the map.

  (3) add an xref in 2. DITA pointing to an element of 1.dita.

  4) Save as a book with fm components

  (5) 2. Open fm Book component.

  (6) ' double click' on the xref. DITA Xref dialog box should display 1. FM as the source file name.

  Also, what version of FM are you using? (to check this using 'help-> on FrameMaker")

• Export the catalog paragraph ESD

  Hello all and thanks in advance for any help.

  I am currently working on the import of XML in Framemaker. I'm fairly new to Framemaker, but after reading the technical paper on XSLT and structured devleopment I think I my mind around it.

  So my thought is take our complex xml and import with an XSLT transformation to a paragraph/character basically style structure that I have then 'apply' a DSP with rules in shape. I worked through some examples, and this doesn't seem to be a problem.

  My arrises problem that these documents be published in Framemaker, I have a catalog huge paragraph. Is there a way to export these to a DSP, so when I import the XML file I can convert the elements in the same names as the paragraph/character style? Did I miss an easier way to do it?

  We seem to have diverged at least three subjects on this thread:

  1. the original since April last on the creation of an EDD in which names of components names match paragraph format.

  2. referring to paragraph and character entries catalog in a DSP rather than specify explicit formatting properties

  3. prevention of the replacements in structured documents.

  I'll give you my late response on the first topic here and then start new discussions on the other two.

  The original post asked about the import of XML in FrameMaker. The proposal was to use XSLT to transform the original XML in a form derived in which element names put matched the names of FrameMaker paragraph format. The answer was that there is no automatic way to do it.

  In fact, there is an automated way:

  1. create an informal document that contains at least a paragraph of each format in the paragraph catalog.

  2. use the StructureTools > command to generate a Conversion Table to create a new conversion table.

  3. save the table of proposed conversion and let it open.

  4. from the original, use StructureTools > utilities > Structure current Document, specifying the conversion table generated to create a structured version of the document.

  5. in the generated structured document, use StructureTools > Export item Catalog as ESD to create ESD desired.

  The implicit question in the original message has been if using XSLT and such an ESD is a good approach. Given that the message says new edition was scheduled in FrameMaker, the answer is probably not. In many cases, the logic of the XSLT transformation can be duplicated with the logic of the context rules and level in ESD - ESD capacity is what makes FrameMaker a feasible structure editor. Implementation of the mapping of the structure of the element formatting in the file XSLT in FrameMaker is a unique, made operation FrameMaker opens the XML document. Implementation means mapping in the ESD context verification is done continuously as the writer changes the document. She recorded the writer of the need to learn that both XML formats markup conventions used for XML and FrameMaker paragraph documents. And she makes probably much more feasible to generate new XML documents edited versions.

  However, there are contextual situations that can be tested in XSLT, but not an ESD. It is:

  (1) put a derived feature of its descendants (a DSP can test the ancestors of the element, but not its descendants)

  (2) put a feature as it is his parent to the first or last child of a particular item type (a DSP can test if an element is the first or the last child, but not whether the first or the last Para, Item, etc..)

  (3) put in shape an item based on the number of items previous, there (a DSP can test if an element is the first, last, or an only child of its parent and that it precedes or follows an element of a particular type, but cannot test whether, for example, the 3rd child of its parent, or the 95th Para in a Section).

  (4) the special characters within an element tests.

  These restrictions were deliberately designed in FrameMaker to make feasible response interactively. Otherwise, each Assembly are likely to cause reformatting of the entire document, and the response time is not practical for an interactive tool. The issue of response time is irrelevant to XSLT, which is a discontinuous process, applied to a static document rather than one that is constantly evolving.

  The above discussion that does not reject the use of XSLT as part of a request for FrameMaker. XSLT is useful when the structure of FrameMaker and XML structure do not match exactly. These cases include:

  (1) the structure of FrameMaker can be simpler than the XML structure. Suppose that a business uses a DTD or a schema that is much more flexible than necessary in this particular environment accessible to the public. For example, if a drafting group has always written in a language, but the DTD requires a language attribute, XSLT can provide the value of the attribute and the writer of spare all need to be aware of the attribute. Or, if the Organization has never multi-alinea list items, they can use XSLT to a mapping between a structure such as:

  (2) the exact structure of the XML element cannot be helped in FrameMaker. For example, in XML a single figure element may include both the legend of the figure and a reference to an existing graphic file:

  (3) the order of items may differ in FrameMaker and XML.

  (4) form Framemaker or XML of the material can be a database of document including some but not all content is extracted to produce the other form.

• Cannot re - install 12 Framemaker. Help, please!

  I worked with FM12 for one year.

  This morning I had an accident with FM 12. I decided to uninstall the application and make a new

  installation because FM refuse to start.

  I've done: uninstall - reboot - Setup - restart

  In the end FM seems to start, except the dashboard. FM blocks.

  With a standard message.

  There seems to be a problem with the backup file of the session crashed this morning.

  Do anyone know where to find these files?

  Can anyone help?

  Could you please confirm the points below -

  1. Hangs at startup on the start screen (loading screen) or when you create a new document, Framemaker? If it hangs on a loading screen, then you can try to take backup of all the fonts on your "C:\Windows\Fonts" desktop and then delete the fonts to "C:\Windows\Fonts" and then try to launch Framemaker and see if that makes a difference.
  2. Please try to recreate Framemaker preferences by following the steps below-
  3. Close FM 12.
  4. Rename the folder 12 12_old in "C:\Users\UserAccount\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Framemaker".
  5. Then rename the folder 'Linguistics' to 'Linguitics_old' in 'C:\Users\Username\AppData\Roaming\Adobe.
  6. Rename the folder "Linguistics" at "Linguitics_old" in "C:\Users\Username\AppData\LocalLow\Adobe".
  7. New launch Framemaker and check again the issue.

  You can also try to create a new local administrator account and the connection under this account and launch Framemaker and see if it works.

• FrameMaker 12 to Microsoft HTML Help?

  We try to create help files (chm) FrameMaker 12 online. I thought part of the mapping, but an entire domain left me speechless! This is how to obtain a Table of hierarchical contents in help online like this:

  I couldn't find all the samples that resulted in the kind of things that I'm looking.

  Looks like your table of contents of the FM? The "publishing engine' inside FM12 being really HR, FM OCD OCD HR conversion is governed by the dashes in the table of contents of the FM.

• Cannot type 'u' in lowercase or uppercase 'C' with FrameMaker 10. Help?

  I use unstructured Frame 10.0.2.419 (part of the TCS 3) on Windows XP. I use this system on this computer for 9 months now and have never had this problem until today. I use Frame on and off since 2000 (since v. 5.5.6) and have never seen this before anywhere. I hope that someone here has seen this behavior before and might have a solution.

  I truly hope that I entered accidentally sort of combination frame that allowed some ghosts settings that I can turn off easily by entering another magical game of keystrokes or clicking a checkbox somewhere. Or something.

  This morning when I opened my recent books of frame that I worked on Friday, I started to change and soon noticed that the lowercase letter 'u' does not appear when I typed it. I started the process of troubleshooting:

  • Replace the keyboard, thinking it was something to do with the physical key. Nope.
  • Tried typing in other applications - all key types perfectly in all applications.
  • Tried to type in the components "Change the marker" and "Edit Variables" in FrameMaker. The key works fine, too.
  • Closed all files and the application, and then restart FrameMaker. Make a wish... files always the same behavior.
  • Since I'm on deadline, I decided to wait to restart my whole computer until later in the day. No success after having done this either.
  • Has started using the tedious shortcut to copy and paste existing letter 'u' when I needed it (remember, this key worked Friday) and soon thereafter discovered I can type but not a tiny 'c' character uppercase. Sigh.
  • Open a book file, I've not worked in more than a month to see if the problem is localized to my specific book or that he infected the entire application. Result: It makes no difference what file I open; the behavior persists.
  • Google search to see if I could find any related problems with solutions posted somewhere. Could not.

  I realize that 'U' and 'C' most likely something to do with the underscore shortcut keys and cut or something, but I did not bring any changes to the application, the .ini file, or even to assign shortcut keys again because leaving work Friday for the holiday weekend. Or even before Friday, in fact.

  Any suggestion or help is very much appreciated. I'm puzzled.

  Yes, if it's the ExtendScript that causes the problem, simply

  uninstall the script will fix things. You can then search the

  fixed version of the script.

• Help formatting a WebHelp Pro project related to FrameMaker

  I am new to FrameMaker and RoboHelp, two software have been used by my company before I came, but unfortunately the people who knew the software left before I was hired.

  I imported our FrameMaker 7 documents in FrameMaker 10 and recreated the WebHelp Pro projects.

  I have some simple formatting problems which can probably be attributed to my lack of knowledge or training.

  I install a skin, the master page and style that matches the old help we need to reproduce as much as possible.

  My problem is that I am a FrameMaker to RoboHelp project link so I changes specifically in the RoboHelp project (we have personalized by customer help and I am hoping to keep only the FrameMaker document).  I'm not able to get the paragraph formatting (specifically indented) to work right.  The information seems well before the master page is applied, but once the master page applies (during the generation of aid) everything is pushed to the left column and there is very little withdrawal and this isn't the way specified in the style sheet.

  Any help would be great.  I was getting used to packages and really love, but now I'm pulling my hair out about little things (such as Visual form).

  I have found the problem.  I decided to change my stylesheet from RoboHelp outside and found a lot of "null entries.  He works in the way I asked now.

• Help! Urgent problem the Framemaker page numbering

  I have to do an update minute to this old project we have in Framemaker. I've never really used it before so I'm clueless!

  Problem is that I have a book, it consists of several chapters, which everyone seems to have an FM extension.

  I need to create a pdf file and the page numbers in her flowing from chapter to chapter. Problem I have now is that Chapter 1 ends on page 10 and Chapter 2 begins on page 13!

  It wouldn't be so bad if she even inserted a couple of blank pages in the pdf, but it's not so the number goes out of sync!

  In the box of the home page where it lists all the files of FM, I linked on Chapter 2, selected numbers and selected continue numbering from previous file in the book, then pressed together. This is not another if.

  Chapter 2 ends on page 18 and Chapter 3 starts on page 21 if something is wrong.

  I need to get this completed document today, if someone could help pls it would be really appreciated!

• Need help with transfer of FrameMaker and Adobe Professional License

  One of my colleagues when you leave uninstalled society Frame 9 and Adobe Professional 8 on its system without disabling the license. Now, we would like to reuse the license for newly hired personnel but are unable to do so because the license is not yet «released»

  It's flexible licenses, not canned versions. When we contacted Adobe Support, we were told to send the copy of license PDF, we now not responding more (even if we have the license number in our records). Is there a way we can reuse this license?

  Hi, it is certainly possible to move the Adobe between computers , but do not turn off first

  If you have not done this, perhaps a simple solution would be just to reinstall the software on the same computer, and then disable and uninstall

  Otherwise, only Adobe customer support can reset an inaccessible activation, to my knowledge
