Help with error: "display driver stopped responding, but recovered."

Hello

First of all, my configuration is a Dell XPS 7100, Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit, the Videocard Visiontek AMD Radeon HD 6850 w / 9.2.0.0 driver version.

AMD Phenom II X 6 cpu.

My problem is that when I try to play a game (more precisely: Minecraft, SimCity, World in Conflict, AOE3) under Windows, the screen freezes for 5 seconds then go black for 1 second then back to the top with an error message saying:

Display driver stopped responding, but recovered

Driver AMD display driver stopped responding and has successfully recovered.

This started only after I upgraded my video card to an AMD HD 5670 to an AMD Radeon HD 6850 Visiontek, which, at the same time, I upgraded my power supply to a 500w unit as AMD recommends. After that that I've updated all my drivers, deleted and reinstalled the driver video and which did not help. I then searched in all the forums about this problem and found that it is more than likely a problem with Windows power management. So, I followed the instructions on the site to change the registry data to help with this. This did not work, the same problem at the same time. I then contacted AMD Support and fairly well, they told me that it is either the power supply or windows power management which was the cause of the crash.

I am at a loss now, I know not what to do. I have not tried all the third-party programs to try to manage the power. But if someone has used one that works or has any ideas for me to try please let me know.

Thank you very much!

I found a solution that helps!

Please make a backup of the registry before making any changes in it.

When editing the registry go to:

  • HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE
  • then the MATERIAL
  • then DEVICEMAP
  • then the VIDEO
  • in the 'VIDEO' file, there is an entry with the title: MaxObjectNumber - REG_DWORD
  • This has a value at the end that looks like 0 x 00000006 (6) or 0 x 00000005 (5)
  • Double-click MaxObjectNumber, and an edit box appears
  • put 0 in the given value, and then click OK.

This will disable Windows GPU Timeout detection and recovery. That she has stopped crashing on me.  The only problem is that windows does not save it and it resets after that rebooting so it must be changed every time you start the computer.

If anyone knows how to save the changes to the registry, I would be very grateful for your advice.

I stumbled upon your post on the laptop and wanted to help you! I looked in your question in the subject of your HP Pavilion dv7-6154ea Entertainment Notebook and problems with the display driver stopped responding. I recommend to restore the default BIOS settings. You could restore the BIOS with this document by selecting the reload the default BIOS settings. This resets the hardware parameters and contributed to others.

Hello! I have a problem with my laptop video card. The error "display driver stopped responding and has recovered" appers then I'm playing video games or working on my graphic editing software.

I tried to google the problem. Tried to reinstall the reivers video, to recover the BONES with the backup, but nothing helped. It seems that the problem appeared first, when it was a huge update of the windows like 1-2 months ago, but I don't know. Maybe it's not soft problem at all.

Can you help me solve this problem?

I have OS windows 7 and my computer model compaq laptop presario CQ60... can you tell me the link from where I get this update drivers?

    Hello

What you see is called the TDR (time display and recovery) process in action.

This component is designed to prevent damage to the computer when the video device is nearby to crash the system. In earlier versions of windows when the display device ran out of resources throughout the system would stop responding, requiring a hard reboot to recover.

In Windows 7, if the display device is not responding, the system will try to stop and restart the device to recover.

More information on this feature can be found here (Advanced): http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/hardware/gg487368.aspx (written for Vista, but also applies to Windows 7)

The most common reason for this problem is that the display device is overloaded or used beyond its capabilities.

When this situation occurs, windows tries to recover by restarting the display device. If she can't get it back, you will see the blue screen.

This happens more often when you play graphics intensive, but can occur with any process that uses a large amount of graphic resources, for example, when editing or creating videos.

What you can do to avoid these problems:

Make sure that you use the latest graphics device driver.

Manage your work time with programs that are graphic-intensive, quit other programs that might also use a large amount of resources.

  • Brand new XPS 13 "display driver stopped responding and recovered."

Bought a new model of XPS 13 9350 with windows 10 with touch and just literally there for a day... Love everything except for the message that appears when just surfing... just with the exception of this little message that keeps popping up in the taskbar "Display driver stopped responding and has recovered"... screen will go black for a second and work again. It happens like every 10 minutes about... sometimes more... sometimes less...

I already try to update the latest driver for the graphics card in the Device Manager... What should I do? Have I not a lemon? I call for assistance? Return this laptop? I don't feel that a 1300 laptop should be having this error on the first day only when you surf. Of course, I paid less because of the sale Black Friday... but still, top of the range Dell XPS should not do this...

Any solution? I love everything on this laptop except for this...

    You need the version 20.19.15.4331.
Load the page Dell drivers or update in Device Manager.

Just in case someone is looking for a (kind of) solution to this problem:

    Location:

-New spectrum x 360, came loaded with Windows 10. All updates (Windows and Intel and HP) made.

-When you scroll websites with Firefox, the computer hangs for about 5 seconds, you get the message "display driver stopped responding and has recovered. Display driver intel HD Graphics Drivers for Windows 8 (R) answers more and was successfully'

-Open the browser windows are black, but can be restored by reducing to a minimum then them openeing again

-Sometimes on a variety of Web sites. EBay seems one need to reproduce, but this can be linked to the amount of scrolling rather than any specific web content. Scroll through the eBay ads I get it about every thirty seconds

I guess it's a driver problem, possibly wait a version 10 of Windows. The solution for now is to use the browser of Microsoft Edge.

In Firefox, go to options, then Advanced tab then general uncheck the use hardware acceleration

I had the same problem and tried to update everything!

Have you noticed that the 'settings' option is disabled, if you right click on the video?

Well, first you do is to wait for one of the small video spots to start on the same screen, right click on that and uncheck the box that says something like "enable hardware acceleration".

And voila! -who should fix it. If this isn't the case, I'm sorry and good luck with your search for a solution!

  • Error "display driver stopped responding and has recovered" seems to have led to big problems...

Last night, I was watching a video on my computer and it froze for a minute, and I got the error "display drivers is not responding and have now recovered." I was a little confused, but this allowed me to continue to play the video. I played it again, and 5 minutes later, I had the same thing. He continued, the case most often. Thereafter, whenever I went to play the video, he froze.

It seems to get worse and worse - the computer has finally restarted itself and made a sort of "Scan disk", which took about 10 minutes. I was hoping this would be the cure but after it loaded up, it happened to go to a blue screen and stop again. This happens everytime I turn on the machine now, a blue screen and it will restart.

I noticed that whenever I rebooted the computer, the image quality is degraded (i.e. the random colored lines on the screen). It was late, I therefore stop the machine and went to bed. I just started the computer this morning and opened in Mode without failure. This time he opened, however the picture quality was terrible - worse than ever. Multicolored lines all over the screen - I could hardly read the text on the screen, so I shut it down again.
I now type on PC to my parents because my is pretty useless.
Anyone has any idea what it could be? Or what I could do to fix it? This was happening to anyone else? This problem is related to the initial error message "display driver"?
Thanks in advance for your answers,
    Jay.

Of what you said is probably a problem with your graphics card. It could be the problem hardware or software problem. If it's software problem then it could solve more easily. You could start here:

    http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows-Vista/troubleshoot-monitor-and-video-card-problems

But if it is the hardware problem, then you should contact the manufacturer of your computer or you need to replace the graphics card.

My computer says that I have the current driver.  I'm running Vista 64-bit, ATI Radeon 3100.  The screen turns off and turns back on.  It only happens when I am connected to the projector to the Church.  Help.

    Hi Beth,

    ·         Have you checked the Web of ATI site for the latest drivers?

I suggest that you uninstall and reinstall the video card.

Step 1: To do this, follow these steps.

    a. click Start and type devmgmt.msc in the start search box and press enter.

    b. expand display adapter.

    c. right-click on your video card, select Uninstall.

    d. restart the computer. Windows should now reinstall the video drivers.

Step 2: Update the computer with the latest graphic drivers. Log in the Web site of the manufacturer to do so.
