I knew that I had a background process that kept restart itself but it would happen so fast that I couldn't tell that it was. FINALLY, I saw that it was McAfee (which came with my computer) after uninstalling McAfee, the problem stopped.

  I thought about it, I suspect me that 1 of my desktop gadgets was perhaps to blame, I had 3 gadgets. Notepad, weather, and a cpu monitor. so I took the time and CPU monitor and now the jumping has stopped for now. I thought I would respond with this answer in case anyone else has this problem so that you can ask them if they have gadgets active which changes every few seconds as my CPU meter does help. I want to thank you for the time you put in to help and I am very pleased with your customer service.

• HP laptop, wanting the Windows Activation

  I have a laptop HP that I used for about three years now.  Suddenly at the start he asked I "activate Windows".  He said also he cannot do at this time, try again later.  I can access e-mail and the internet without problem.  I'm not a geek, whatever that means?  What he wants me to?  Thanks for any help.

  It turns out Windows Update KB3058163 caused this... Uninstalling it solved the problem after the restart and a bit of a wait...

I tried to install with a Windows XP Home OEM edition discs but after installtion that he used to connect on windows without be activated everything first.
