I recently got a Blackberry 8520 and I come very, very slowly to wrestling with it.  One of the problems that I still have is with BBM.  It's on my phone but the only way I can access is by going to "Switch Application" and this is in the Ribbon.  Is there a way I can move, the icon is displayed on the main screen? (the screen with all applications).  An AOL AIM and MSN Messenger icon appear, but I don't use these and would prefer to have the icon for BBM. Any way I can delete these two?

I hope that makes sense, as I have said that I'm pretty new to Blackberry.

Yes, I agree that the issue here is that the BBMessenger does not appear as an icon on the main screen.

That's why I asked to go through the steps looking for in all directories (particularly Instant Messages folder) and checking that it is not hidden.

If you can do the same, let me know.

    Yes its possible to reset without entering the Menu Options on your phone:

    1. you must have BlackBerry Desktop Manager on your PC.

    2. connect the phone with open Desktop Manager.

    3. go to the Applications tab

    4 locate the rogue app/theme, kill it and your phone should come back with the default theme.

    5. If you can not find via Desktop Manager then try to do a full backup.

    6 restore the phone to factory settings, restore data selectively.

    Hope this works for you, if it's not then you need to use BBSAK to wipe the phone or try to remove the new theme.

    Finally I did it.

    The fundamental problem is Blackbery Desktop Software for Mac, it is not 100% compatible with blackberry support cause can never fix my bb.

    Solution for me:

    1 - install windows with bootcamp (not VM, a lot of problems with the USB ports)

    2 - Download Device Software for 9860 and BDS... obiusly for victory.

    3. connect the devices "WITH BATTERY", very important.

    4 - click on "Update".

    5 take a chance for the BB server answer... and give you good news about your software.

    6. install and all you want to do for the recovery of your bb.

    Please, RIM, GIVE the SUPPORT of United States FOR THE MAC USERS... SUPPORT REAL.

    I have a BB Tour 9630 I recently received from Sprint and want to give it to a nephew as a birthday gift.  His parents are on another carrier (T-Mobile or Verizon - I don't remember) and I want to make sure that it will be able to work.

    I disabled the line it's on and checked that all the items in the advanced-> SIM options show that "disabled", but do not know if I understand.  In addition, I was not sure if it will work on any network identity even after being unlocked.

    It's a more complicated issue. It can definitely work for all functions on any carrier that already directly supports this model BB... you can check this page of product specifications for businesses that support:

    But it can also run on a carrier network which is compatible with the BB radio. You can check the radio BB here (the 'Network' section) features:

    You would have to research to specific carriers that you plan and their radio frequencies to ensure that the BB is indeed compatible with a network of carrier specific or not.

    But, be aware that running on a network that does not natively support the BB model would likely result in features limited... it is difficult to get a BB model not supported to achieve full-BB services on a carrier network that does not directly support the BB model (even though the radio frequencies are compatible). Voice services (voice, SMS, MMS) are generally not a problem at all... but BB exclusive data services will be much more difficult. See this FAQ for general guidance:

    On supports that fully support the model BB, the complete set of services probably is possible. Formats which do not support the model BB and yet the network and radio BB are compatible, it is likely that only the first or even the second level of services is possible (there are tricks to get the job full level third, but it is tedious and delicate).     Finally, it is really up to the carrier to decide if they allow even the BB on their network. They can say no.     The following help to reload the software, but if its broken internally, it will not provide the solution.

    What I was doing to completely wipe my BB. I wrote this before and it printed.

    If your device does not work, perform a backup now if you have not already done save the file to a place and a name that you can easily locate it on computer.

    I then uninstalled DTM and then deleted all the other references to BB/Rim in Windows Explorer, thus eliminating the operating system for the BB to the computer in order to ensure that the version I want to reinstall a new version uploaded.

    Get the latest Desk Top software DTS)
    http://us.BlackBerry.com/apps-software/desktop/?CPID=OTC-DSKTPSW&CP=OTC-DSKTPSW

    and install it on the computer.

    Get the latest version of the operating system

    http://us.BlackBerry.com/support/downloads/download_sites.jsp

    and save it on computer.

    If the PC does not recognize the BB, you connect via the USB cable. Then remove the battery from the BB.
    With the battery pulled, connect the BlackBerry to the USB connector, and as SOON as you see USB - PIN: UNKNOWN, click Next. You must be quick. From there, you can put the battery in (make sure that you install the battery or else when completed the update of the OS and the device disconnects from the computer to restart, it will lose the power supplied by the USB connection and you will get an error and have to start all over again!).

    If you don't get it right the first time, try again (debrancher unplug the USB, remove battery, connect and click next while USB - PIN: unknown shows). You must be quick and the timing is key, so it may take you three or four attempts.

    To erase all data on your BlackBerry device, follow these steps.

    (1) download JL_Cmder http://www.4shared.com/get/oqP9V-2Q/JL_Cmder_v19.html

    (2) install JL_Cmder to the computer.

    (3) double check you have already saved the BB. If you DO NOT, you will lose all data.

    (4) make sure that DTS is closed and plug in the BB to the computer via USB

    (5) to reach the JL_Cmder on your computer and double-click it to start. Now, it may take a few tries to connect, so persevering until he does.

    (6) on the first screen, press a key to continue.

    (7) now, if your device uses a password, enter it now. If not, press "N".

    You can update your BlackBerry by using an operating system of any company in the world.  If you look at the top positions in each category of these forums (aka 'sticky'), you'll see instructions for updating your phone using the OS from another carrier.  This will not affect your phone with Orange, unless you need technical support on their part and they have not yet released the OS you have installed.  Not to worry though, any support that you need to lie here in these forums.

    try to remove your battery and replace after 30 seconds to allow your phone to reboot.  See if this helps with your problem to send SMS.  Let me research your problem with aol. There is probably a setting, you can click on aol to keep on your pc and blackberry.

    Here's the problem that started from the first day after I've owned my torch. whenever I come to files or update my OS. the procces is going very well through the first steps (to connect to the device, the device data backup, back up third-party applications) but when it gets to the 4th step which is connect to the device ROM. The phone reboots and takes forever to charge until the expiration of the time limit and I get an error saying "the lodaer of the application could not connect to your BlackBerry." She suggests going to the Device Manager and go to properties of USB root hub => allow the computer to turn off this device to save power. which is in fact already active

    What I usually do after waiting and waiting is I unplug the phone from the computer and do a battery pull. The phone restarts successfully, I click on start and the charger connects to boot ROM then the whole update continues.

    But the question is, is the update done successfully? probably not. I continue to have problems with the 3 G, wifi, many applications running.

    I love my torch and I hope to keep it, but I really need to understand this. It's very frustrating

    This should in fact be "DISABLED".  You don't want the USB hub to be disabled during a process he uses.

    In addition, you can consider an own Desktop Manager uninstaller, and then re-download the software with the latest version, you can get here.  This table will also include the latest drivers for your USB ports, but make sure that you disable powersaving mode.
