  To change your windows 7 application icon you can use following the procedure-
  a. Right click on the desktop icon and then click Properties.
  b. now Select the shortcut tab and see button below to change the icon. Click the button change icon now all the icons.
  c. you can choose a of the icons that you want for the shortcut.

  I initially thought it was the battery based on the description, but like you said the battery is ok it probably isn't it.

  Best advice is to return to HP for repair under warranty because I am convinced that it is some kind of hardware problem.
