Hi there I've recently invested in a toshiba external hard drive 640, as my lap top got only 2.03 GB of space left... How can I empty my drive (C) now its been copyed?

  • I copyied my all data mobile c drive only to find the top lap always full and on red, nothing, I've known idea how to wipe my drive C clean?, the problem became worse when I was syncing a few songs on my ipod on iTunes as I was told the drive HARD (E) REQUIRED TO BE FORMATED BEFORE so I CAN USE it I have DONE SO and now I've lost all the songs I had out there for my iTunes library, as the HDDrive (E) has NOW BEEN WIPE CLEAN! still, it appears in iTunes but says is not able to lowcate he obveously it was all stored on external disk HARD (E)...
  • . I REALIZE THAT IT IS TWO QUESTIONS
  • IE how do I erase my Cdrive once it has been saved?
  • and is it possible to recover my music deleted from my HDDrive?
  • any help would be that much appritiated cordially Stéphane

If you have formatted the drive E, it is unlikely that you will be able to recover anything that was on him.

You can copy the data files on drive E and then after copying, delete the files that you copied from the C drive.  If you format the drive C or the erase, and then the computer no longer work, as the operating system resides on the C drive.

I suggest that you start by start. Programs | Accessories | System Tools | Cleaning disc and after run to see how much space is available.  After that, copy large data files (music, video, images) in the E drive and then you can delete the C drive.  But if something happens to drive E (as reformat you) what will be lost.

Recovery of DNG issue: I have photos stored on an external hard drive which have previously been imported into Lightroom and converted to DNG.  The laptop on which I was running Lightroom died and I had to replace the hard drive and rebuild the computer.  In the process of my Lightroom program and catalog related to these images have been lost.  When I re-associate these photos with my new installation of Lightroom and a new catalogue is there a way to retrieve the keywords or other changes or metadata catalogue Mountaga?  Is any of this information embedded with the imge DNG file or was it only in the cataloght lost on my failing hard drive? I re-import just as if it were new images with no prior treatment of Lightroom?

By default, LR saves all changes in the catalog, and that applies to any type of file.

Optionally, you can save changes to the file as well, for raw files owners, this will create a xmp file - for DNG that changes are going to be cooked in the file, without additional xmp file.

But it does not default. Go to the catalog and parameters under the control of metadata automatically save changes to XMP.

Unless you do this, the changes are saved only in the catalog.

    Hope this makes things clearer.

  • I broke my external hard drive and now it locked and disassembled?

I just have a lot of questions here. After trying many things I found in a deeper hole.

I use an external hard drive, it's a Seagate Backup Plus 1 TB external hard drive. It is formatted and partitioned, I did using the steps for me the Web of Seagate site, when I got it.

I entered the hole, I'm right now because I had backup problems near the top of my photos of Lyve on my external drive. I think the reason why they would not return, it was because my drive was in offline mode in the "Status" section in Lyve, despite the fact that disk utility says the status of the disk is online. I researched and found out that this can happen if a.) the storage is full or b.) the wifi connection is bad or a connection is not available. When I opened my Seagate dashboard, I discovered that my drive was full, so I thought that was the reason. This made no sense to me because there was no way that I had somehow already packed 1 TB, I had saved only once and it is brand new. However, I deleted a ton of pictures I put in 'Lyve Import' and then allowed the trash. (I must have accidentally imported them several times, so the photos doubled several times or something because altogether they are 50 GB, 1 TB not...) That seemed to be the source because then my drive had 938 GB free!... But my drive was always in offline mode.

So I refreshed, rebooted, unplugged and replugged, returned Wi - Fi works for Seagate Lyve and my computer. But my drive was still offline even though disk utility always says that it is online.

Now, I'm still trying to find out why, it's that my drive has been appearing offline in Lyve when I used different Wi - Fi connections in different places and they all worked well, and I have lots of storage. One of the reasons is that the partition on my drive has still pictures of Lyve copied import, I had deleted, because there is almost no storage on this score somehow, I suspect. As you can see in the second photo, the score says he has only 16 MB of available space, and I somehow used GB 999. If it is the same as before, I don't know how to access this partition, and then delete them. It is a copy of all of these photos of Lyve Import? However...

NOW, currently the main problem that prevents me from continuing to investigate on the previous question is: I had encrypted my external hard drive some time ago. After having annoyed having to enter a password long so many times because of the reopening and that to solve the problem 'offline', I've deciphered this hard drive clicking in the Finder by clicking Decrypt. I entered the password to do this, and have decrypted AFAIK because the password has been accepted. But now my drive says that it is locked and disassembled? What? It is shaded in the left sidebar of disk utility. It does not appear as a device plugged into the Finder. It's as if he is not yet here, but I can still access Lyve. From what I understand, my disc encryption would protect its ' content with a password. Decryption, it would mean that I wouldn't have to type a password to access? Seriously worried that I screwed to the top of something because I did not understand what the consequences would be here. In addition, why my player not appear when the score indicates the status of the disk is online?

I have included pictures of both the disk and partition information, and what they look like now in disk utility. Previously, from what I remember, in the information section of my car he had about 948 GB available, was mounted and he said it was a logical Partition encrypted, if it is of no use. It does not display this information now because it is locked, correct? I did not delete anything?

As you can tell, I didn't know what I was doing the same in the first place - and now, I'm stumped. Please bear with me on this because all of this formatting and partitioning, and editing and similar is confusing me, only knowledge I had performed since the steps provided in the forums or on Seagate and Lyve directions on their website. I really don't understand what that means anyway - I wasn't trying to screw around things just... Any help would be GREATLY appreciated.

^ Note that this is what my Finder looks like now despite the fact that my external hard drive is connected. He always used to display the full drive Center 'FAVORITES' and 'TAGS' as a device that is currently connected, with the option to display its "table of contents or eject it.

Update - I managed to solve this problem using this forum:

How decrypt external hard drive, so it can be re-partitioned

Make it wiped my drive, but given that I had pictures about it as I have copies on my computer, which was not serious.

    Good luck to everyone

  • My external hard drive has changed its Mac format to NTFS by itself. If anyone else has experienced this?

I would post screenshots, but I'm currently back up backup (lol) my hard drive to another drive so I can reformat the drive. Anyway, today I plugged my Toshiba Caniva 1 TB external to some organization. I went to delete something (Cmd + delete) and nothing happened. So, I tried to drag and drop it into the basket and received a message saying that the file cannot be removed. It's weird, I thought. So, I open disk utility and discover that my external hard drive has decided to change to NTFS on its own. I tried to eject and reconnect it - that did not work. I tried to restart - which did not work. I thought that my USB hub could be a problem - nope. The only things that have changed since I last used my outside is that I changed the battery in my MacBook, put in an SSD and upgraded to El Capitan. I don't see how one of these could cause this but I thought I would mention it. Anyone who has something similar happens? Thank you.

The reader not to not reformat in NTFS. If the disk has been reformatted would vanish all your data. I suspect that before you upgrade to El Capitan you ran a third party app that would allow you to use NTFS formatted disk. Once you upgrade to El Capitan the app is no longer compatible with your new operating system. You must download and install an upgraded version of your application that supports El Capitan. Or, you can copy all data from the disk and reformat then for your Mac.

  • My used external hard drive appears now as (g), it appears as (h). How to switch this back?

I plugged my Ipod without my connected external and now the Ipod 'stolen' label (g). No matter if its connected or not it (g) Ipod and external shows like (h). How to pass the external back to (g)?

    Hello

Step 1: Connect an external hard drive (before iPod conneting or any other external device) and then check if the G drive letter is assigned. If the G drive letter is already used by any other device, then it cannot be attributed to other devices.

Step 2: If none of the devices are using the G drive letter and then try to change the drive letter.

  • is there a download for managing backups on an external hard drive for windows xp

No download for managing backups on an external hard drive

Great program I have used for customers for many years - second copy, $29.95 from http://www.centered.com - copy files, no proprietary format, is not the image.

Program free backup that looks good, but I have not used - GFI Backup .

Excellent program that clones, images and an incremental image backup - Acronis True Image . MS - MVP - Elephant Boy computers - don't panic!

  • Renamed the external hard drive and now 5 Lightroom can't locate photos that were underway

My husband uses Lightroom 5.  All of his pictures are saved and imported from an external hard drive.  Today it has renamed the hard drive, and later, when he went to the room open light, it does not find who he had worked on the picture.  Photos and those that it has exported are still on the hard drive, but he was still editing are not displayed.  Any ideas?

Because Lightroom uses the hard real path for images, change the name of HD has broken this link. The best way to restore the link is to go in the library, make a right click (control click on Mac) the folders on the left side and select the location of the update folder. If the images are in a closed file as the top-level folder (recommended) digital capture needs updating. If there is a lot of files, then you will need to update each record separately...

  • Cannot move all the files as windows explore crashes - it happens every time when you use an external hard drive (several readers have been tested and work on other machines)

I need to move files on my laptop, but windows crashes Explorer everytime I try this. This also applies when you use an alternative program to explore. It didn't happen last week but regularly spent the last six months. It is now that I need to migrate these files (mainly the images, but also the music and office documents).

    Thank you

Make sure that the device is compatible with Vista, the Vista Compatibility Center: http://www.microsoft.com/windows/compatibility/windows-vista/default.aspx.

If you need to get pilots to leave the computer dealer or the manufacturer of the device (NOT of Microsoft Updates).  In fact, you must disable automatic updates in Windows Update driver as follows: http://www.addictivetips.com/windows-tips/how-to-disable-automatic-driver-installation-in-windows-vista/. Follow these steps: http://pcsupport.about.com/od/driverssupport/ht/driverdlmfgr.htm.  Once you have the drivers, you can install them via the Manager device as follows: http://www.vistax64.com/tutorials/193584-device-manager-install-driver.html.  You need to find the NAS device and the NICs in particular - but it would not hurt to look at all the when you're there.

Go to start / Control Panel / Add Hardware and select the first option (recommended) to see if the system can detect the device.  If this does not work, choose the second and provide the information requested on the device.  You will be asked for drivers - have their practice.  Follow the prompts to install the device (NAS).  Make sure that it is plugged in and turned on when you do so, or he not be recognized.  It's the hard way of installing a hardware device, but your system obviously isn't automatically recognize it then do it manually. Here is a brief tutorial on how to do so: http://www.web-articles.info/e/a/title/Windows-Vista :-Running-the-Add-Hardware-Wizard /.

    I hope this helps.  Good luck! Lorien - a - MCSE/MCSA/network + / A +.

There are 153 images in this catalog, all on 1 external. Which does not seem right, or you expect very different numbers, could you give me an idea of what numbers you expect?

This seems to be an empty catalog with any folder. It seems to me that you have opened an empty catalog somehow. Could you please try file-> open the recent item and see if any of the other catalogues listed is the one you want? If this does not work, could you please try to restore a recent backup of your catalog file and see if the situation is resolved?

  • ITunes Library copy on external hard drive

So I just copied my iTunes library on an external hard drive and now when I try to play a song in iTunes, I get a message saying that the file is not found. I see the files on my C drive, where they were stored at the origin. What is going on?

What exactly did you go where? See make a library of portable split. Maybe you can put the parts back together in the correct form on the external hard drive and then shift-Start iTunes to open the library there.

  • Replaced hard drive. Now USB ports do not work.

My hard drived has crashed and my local computer guy took my external drive and used in my computer to replace the drive crashed.  Everything seems to work fine, but today, I realized that the USB ports on the front of my computer do not work.  There are two in the back, but they seem to work since everything which is plugged into those are usable.  What could have happened?  Can I repair myself or do I have to carry it up to him and spend another $100 that I don't have?

Well an operating system could be run from an external hard drive, but now that its gone, what

place with the old hd, why run outside so the inside is corrupt... If you're in the hd was not

replaced by a new one, buy a new one, install, install the xp cd, boot from the xp cd, have xp format

& install a clean operating system. Unplug the old one during xp installation, plug it in again after startup pc

in the BIOS, set the drive boot priority, once under xp, get any data you want on it, then format, use

as storage and a swap file... Get more information from kb307889 & kb303079

  • Clean install of windows 7, now I have no permission to copy on external hard drive.

I have a HP media center 2005 office which originally had XP on it. I bought an upgrade Windows 7 years and installed and never had a problem. Two weeks ago I reformatted my computer to get rid of a redirect virus, and everything seems to work perfectly except for one thing: my C: drive and both of my external hard drives, K:, and M: require administrator privileges to copy/paste/modify anything.
When I did a clean install it automatically gives me an admin account.

My question is, what can I do to change the permissions and security settings, while I have a total control over EVERYTHING. I recently tried video file on my external drive and he told me that I needed permissions and click ok to try. But he did nothing.

I want access to all of my files. Drive C and the two external. I noticed that the security options when I consult my files or directories where showing these accounts:

    SYSTEM
    Josh (Josh-PC\Josh)
    Administrators (Josh-PC\Administrators)
    Everyone

and I was getting a SID that is long enough

There are a lot of files, but one in particular that made me on this hunting witch was changing my user profile file in Firefox. I did a clean install and wanted to change the shortcut menu in firefox, but also a few other settings.
This just happened to reside in C:/documents and settings /

The recipe is the same as before: take ownership of the problem folder. It make recursive so that you don't need to treat each case separately.
