Hide unused file extensions

Hello

I would like to see if I can hide unused dialog file extensions "save under". I think it would allow me to save a lot of time. I did some research on Google and have met discussions where people solve this problem but I can't find anything that addresses this issue for creative cloud. I use photoshop cc 2014 on OSX 10.8.5. I'm not able to update my OS or CC at that time (our service due to a font server compatibility issue).

Thank you!

CTRL or Photoshop.app right click and select "Show Package Contents".

This opens the content file.  Rename the file or the plugin unwanted with a tilde in front symbol ' ~ File Formats "for example.

    What a clever virus...

    Hello

I wouldn't worry at all here Ccleaner find unused file extensions. I suggest to ignore these, because that it happened a lot such Ccleaner found on my system where the file extensions actually has existing or were used.
In some cases, Ccleaner has problems with the list of file extensions properly (list), so this is another reason why you should ignore this. After all, 'used' file extensions in the registry does not affect anything / harm at all. It would be worse if you have Ccleaner remove this so-called unused file extensions (which happens a lot btw), while extensions are not used. It would break their file associations.

So, fix it when it is not broken :)

  • Windows Picture and Fax Viewer File Extensions

A few moments ago, I finished a session of 3 hours with Techs two, MS on a problem where MSN BING replaced my Google home page and nothing less than a miracle would help.  In addition, I just started to get a Google page that asked me to prove that I was a human and a robot entering symbols into a box of CAPTCHCA.  Technicians found that my office had acquired a serious virus, unknown name, and finally a level 2 Tech was able to restore Google as my home page.  Hooray!

There are some bonus winnings, but now I have a problem I ask your help to deal with the Windows Picture and Fax Viewer.

Until the technicians tried to solve the problem of Google, I was able to put the captions of the photos that I downloaded via a memory card.  Then I got the card in the reader and before and after moving them to the folders on my dekstop I could type captions under the photos to replace what was there as IMG_0019.JPG.  After I typed everything which, in this case BOLA SETE RED VINYL, I now get a popup that says:

    [Rename

If you change a filename extension, the filw may become unusable.  Are you sure you want to change it?  Yes No]

Feeling cocky and sure that nothing will change in fact I clicked Yes and the photo has disappeared replaced by an icon that I describe.  A lost photo.

After moving safely from the photos in different folders, I tried again to see if I could add a caption but I kept getting the dreaded above popup.  Then I did the photos via Picasa 3 and when I put pictures in the appropriate folders, I found that I could, and safely, add a caption.

Can someone help me with this situation?  I want my old Picture and Fax Viewer because I don't always treat my photos with Picasa and I want to place them in appropriate folders, with good captions under the photos.  Can I pick up my old Picture and Fax Viewer or I'm screwed?

Looks like you need to change the following setting.

Open any folder and go... Tools / Folder Options / View tab on...
Clear (clear) the box "Hide extensions of known file types" / apply / OK.

Now... When you rename a photo... be absolutely sure that you do not delete the file
    extension... JPG for example.

For photos that seem to corrupt now... If you rename them again and Add .jpg
extension, they should return to normal.

  • How can I find out what the file extension is an attachment to an email?

I get an email with an attachment, I can not open with any of the applications that I have in my Ubuntu 14.04. How can I find what is the extension of the attached document, so I can find an attachment that can open and store?

I can't save it on the disk without the aid of an application

I am really curious what you could not do. There is no problem with saving a file on the disk without file extension.

I don't like when a program hides important details of me

I don't think that there is nothing that Thunderbird is hiding from you. Most likely the attachment is not a file extension - for any reason.

Please do these two simple things and the report on the results.

    A. report of the disc

1 double click (or click, if it's in the start menu) Workstation

    2. for each drive (you must be at least 'disc' Local (c), right click and select Properties.  Report of the 'space used', 'Free space' and 'capacities '.

    B. know what is using the space

    1. get a USB that has at least 4 MB of space.  You can buy a 4 GB (this is 1,000 times more that you) thumb drive from Staples for $7.99 and connect it to your computer.

    2. download JDiskReport.  Go to http://www.jgoodies.com/downloads/index.html, make a right click on the link 'Win', choose ' save link under ', navigate to your USB key and save the file.

  • Change the file extension

I use Windows XP Home Edition.  How do you change the file extension when the system cannot open the picture?  It was recorded as "All Files".

Go to control panel, folder (in Classic view) options, go to the view tab and scroll down to find Hide extensions of known file types.  Uncheck the box and click on the file.  Rename the file and change the file extension.

  • . Action file extension

I can't open a place of trade .Act file extension.  How can I accomplish this?

    Rick

Go to start / Default programs / associate a file or Protocol with a program and the list for the .Act file extension (I've never heard of it or those who well before - they usually only 3 digits - then be sure that it really is the extension of the file and is not actually part of the name of the file - go to start / Control Panel / folder Options / View and uncheck the box to hide the extensions of file types) known file).  If you find it should list a default program that is used to open these files.  If it is incorrect, click on modify and check if the correct option is displayed.  Otherwise, click Browse and navigate to the executable for the program that is used to open these files (it must be installed on your system for the extension to show high and so that you can open the type of file).  If it is not then no program has installed on the system to add this extension to the list of file types and their associations, which is why it will not open.  You will have to perhaps download and install place of trade (or something to open their files) on your computer in order to open this file (check with commercial technical support room for further assistance).

    I hope this helps.

    Good luck!

  • The file names changed in wingdings, including the file extension and I can't delete, change them, open, etc. Here are the pictures.

Have (had) a file with multiple files it contains with pictures in each file.  A week ago the pictures were there.  Now, the names are replaced by wingdings as names and file extensions.  When I try to open it, it is not accessible and that the file name, directory name or volume label syntax is incorrect.  When I try to delete it, it says that the file name you specified is invalid or too long and specify a different name.  When I try to rename it, it tells me that if I change the file name extension, the file may become unusable.  If I try to change anyway, it says I've specified file name is not valid or too long.  Only tried for the name 1.  I did a restore in the case where a program interfered with that.  However, nothing has changed.  All of the suggestions.

You can download and try to delete the file Unlocker http://www.softpedia.com/get/System/System-Miscellaneous/Unlocker.shtmlwilh.  Although it is not designed for this particular circumstance, it may very well work in all cases, as it has been very successful in a wide variety of situations are not specifically highlighted in the directions (where do not work the normal Vista options).  NOTE: Some antivirus flag programs this program as a malware, but it is a 'false positive' and is safe to use perferctly.  My own software to flag, but several other well-known software products it clean and the warning is included in the documentation of the program.

I wish there was a way to save the images, but at this point, it seems that the only option is to delete because you can't rename files EHF (if this option is available-I hope that work above).  Unfortunately, System Restore does not affect the files of data, so even if a program caused this, System Restore can eliminate the cause, but it would not restore the files to their previous names.

If you have Vista Business, Vista Ultimate or Vista Enterprise, you can be lucky because they retain the files called snapshots http://windows.microsoft.com/en-AU/windows-vista/Previous-versions-of-files-frequently-asked-questions.  It can be used to recover previous versions of files that have been changed or deleted accidentally.  Here's how: http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windows-vista/features/shadow-copy.aspx.

If you have Vista Basic or Premium of Vista, you don't have a shadow, but there is a free program for you that does essentially the same thing called Shadow Explorer: http://www.shadowexplorer.com/.  I suggest that you download and implement as soon as POSSIBLE to protect you if you accidentally delete or modify a file.  It will not help you in this instance, but it can help save the next time.

I'm more concerned about why this has happened in the first place and prevent it from happening again.  I saw file names change before, but never of wingdings which then do not let you open, edit, delete, or rename.  We will check some of your system files: go to start / all programs / accessories / command prompt and right click on command prompt, and then click Run as administrator.

Type sfc/scannow, go and let it run.  It will scan and try to correct some of your system files.  If all goes well he comes complete with no corruption, it could not repair (if it has these post of corruption here or try to analyze it to find the problem or files using http://support.microsoft.com/kb/928228.  If you find any these corrupted files, try to post them here.  Maybe we can replace the good files on the disc.

While in the command prompt, type chkdsk /f /r and enter and let it run.  It will scan and try to solve any corruption or bad sectors on your hard drive and remove especially as a cause.

If this does not work, then please post repetitive errors in Event Viewer about the name change (Start / Control Panel / administrative tools / Event Viewer).  Here's how to use Event Viewer: http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/topic40108.html.

If this does not work, you will need to do a repair/system upgrade using the Windows Vista Installation disc authentic (you own or that you can borrow from someone).  Here is the procedure: http://www.vistax64.com/tutorials/88236-repair-install-vista.html as well as the upgrade from an earlier version of the Windows section of the following: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/918884.  Although this will not affect your data, settings or programs, you should always back up your data before you start just be on the safe side. If other procedures do not work, it is almost certain to work - but it will probably not fix your renamed files.  You can have a lot of updates to re - install (including all you need to remove service packs).  If the version on system with SP1 or SP2 preinstalled cane and the disc is an earlier version, then you will need to do a slipstream drive as follows: http://www.vistax64.com/tutorials/151606-vista-sp1-slipstream-installation-dvd.html.

I hope one of these procedures can solve your problem.  If this isn't the case, after return and we will try something else.  Return message anyway so we know how it turns out.

    Good luck!

Recently hidden files appeared on my laptop, include desktop.ini, ehthumbs_vista.db and file extensions appeared on my files IE nomdufichier.avi, filename.jpg, filename.m4a.

I want to resolve this issue if there is no underlying cause for this.

If you do not want these options (personally, I like them myself), go it to start / Control Panel / folder Options / View and uncheck the box to view system and hidden files (or check the box to hide them).  Then check the box Hide extensions of known file types.  Click OK and these two 'problems' should now be gone.

Vista and Windows 7 updated drivers love then here's how update the most important.

This is my generic how updates of appropriate driver:

This utility, it is easy see which versions are loaded:

-Free - DriverView utility displays the list of all device drivers currently loaded on your system.
For each driver in the list, additional useful information is displayed: load address of the driver,
Description, version, product name, company that created the driver and more.
    http://www.NirSoft.NET/utils/DriverView.html

For drivers, visit manufacturer of emergency system and of the manufacturer of the device that are the most common.
Control Panel - device - Graphics Manager - note the brand and complete model
your video card - double - tab of the driver - write version information. Now, click on update
Driver (this can do nothing as MS is far behind the certification of drivers) - then right-click.
Uninstall - REBOOT it will refresh the driver stack.

Repeat this for network - card (NIC), Wifi network, sound, mouse, and keyboard if 3rd party
with their own software and drivers and all other main drivers that you have.

Now in the system manufacturer (Dell, HP, Toshiba as examples) site (in a restaurant), peripheral
Site of the manufacturer (Realtek, Intel, Nvidia, ATI, for example) and get their latest versions. (Look for
BIOS, Chipset and software updates on the site of the manufacturer of the system here.)

Download - SAVE - go to where you put them - right click - RUN AD ADMIN - REBOOT after
    each installation.

Always check in the Device Manager - drivers tab to be sure the version you actually install
presents itself. This is because some restore drivers before the most recent is installed (sound card drivers
in particular that) so to install a driver - reboot - check that it is installed and repeat as
    necessary.

Repeat to the manufacturers - BTW in the DO NOT RUN THEIR SCANNER device - check
    manually by model.

Look at the sites of the manufacturer for drivers - and the manufacturer of the device manually.

  • Selection of Vista Explorer by default file extension: this can be changed?

By default, in the Vista Explorer, when you select a file name, the file extension is excluded. This behavior can be changed?

    Thank you.

    François

To see file extensions, go to start / Control Panel / folder options / view and presented the box Hide extensions of known file types.  This way you will always be able to see the file extensions.  I have no idea why that is enabled by default because it is very useful and I would even say that it is important.

If you have disabled (or if it's on, incidentally) and you rename a file without the extension, it will lose the file extension and won't open because he doesn't know what kind of file it is.  It's yet another reason for the extensions of files to all files are displayed permanently.  You do not want the name of the excluded file because this would mean that you could not change the types of files because the extension is "locked".  As long as you can see and change, there should be no problem.

When you select a file name in the file extension Explorer is excluded only if it is hidden.  Otherwise you can see.  In any case it's there even if you don't see it (unless you have changed the name and does not include the extension in the new name).

    I hope this helps.

    Good luck!
