How can I learn FrameMaker?

Can anyone recommend materials such as books, videos, or web for learning FrameMaker tutorials that are intended for beginners?

The only book on FrameMaker, I could find on Amazon is published in the last two years is intended to be a reference for experienced users of FrameMaker. Everything on the site of Adobe seems to be on very precise FrameMaker, present topics, in no particular order, and there is an overview of the new features, but nothing to guide a new user. The last classroom in a book on FrameMaker is for Version 11. I tend to get a copy of that, but I don't know how can be lack of it.

In case it is useful, my situation is that I'm interested in a career change to become a technical writer and I finished a certificate program in technical writing at the local Community College, but he had no exposure to FrameMaker in this series.

Thanks in advance for your suggestions.

Andy

For all those who want to add FM to their portfolio of skills, training materials and manuals on older versions on paper collection has some value, and you can often find this material cheaply on eBay and sellers of second-hand books.

Not every shop is on the current version of FM. I recently took his retirement from that always used FM7.1/Unix and FM6/Unix for the major part of its production. In all cases, a port of entry is very likely to result in the maintenance of existing documents, perhaps in a heritage FM.

The usage model will also vary widely, with shops put emphasis on one of (but without limitation):

  • Unstructured FM
  • Structured FM
  • workflow in Postscript for printing
  • workflow in PDF format (historically most likely)
  • workflow (more) to HTML, XML or ebook
  • FM as part of a build system automated documents focus on the DB in real time
