How can I move from iPhoto to Lightroom 4 11'

Hello

I'm looking to start using Lightroom 4 my primary photo editing and management software and was hoping someone can give me a good idea on how to transfer all my images and import them into Lightroom from iPhoto 2011 (I have about 8 000). My biggest concern is not duplicate my files. I don't have an external hard drive so they will remain on my intern. I did not really any changes of my images with iPhoto, so I am not really concerned by the loss of these changes. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I searched the net and found really good solutions or advice. Thank you!

First thing I would do is to save your images. To do this, you will need to go to file > export. Here, the best option to do is choose 'gender' to be 'original '. This allows what you export to be in its original format. When you click Export, a new window will appear so you can chose your destination. As I said earlier, this will allow you to choose a folder that iPhoto will empty all your images in a without maintaining your current orginzation in regards to events, etc.. It's very well because this backup is just in case something goes seriously wrong. I prefer to use an external hard drive. You could make a folder on the internal drive, but this will create a copy of your images.

Once your backup is complete. The second step is to get all the images in the iPhoto library while trying to keep everything in its current state. The easier and simpler way to proceed is to use Aperture 3. If you do not now, you can download the 30 day trial to be able to do. Its the safest method I found and interesting to use the trial just for that purpose. Even if you decide to buy it later, or even remove the trial version, the photos will be where you move and opening can always refer to them. The first step of this opening technique is to import your iPhoto library in Aperture. You have several options on how to proceed in this way. Fortunately, opening will reflect your iPhoto library in its structure (events, etc.). Whe Aperture is open, click file > import > then select iPhoto library. A dialog box opens and the iPhoto library is highlighted. In this box, you have the option to choose where you want to store the files. By default, 'in their cuurent location' is selected. Leaving it selected, opening will leave in iPhoto Library and simply refer to them. You need to select is "in the Aperture library." This could take a while, but finally all of your iPhoto events will be transferred in to the opening, and you see in the sidebar appear under the projects & Albums in a folder called events, which is located in a folder called iPhoto library. Each "event" from iPhoto will become 'Projects' in Aperture 3 and will have a yellow icon beside the name of each event/project. (At this point, I don't know if the iPhoto library is deleted and moved, or if it's a copy of it. If we make a copy by iPhoto Library is still there, you can simply delete the iPhoto library and it will remove your photos that would now be double sort)

The next step is to move the masters in Aperture. What this does is actually allows you to move your events of the bundled file Aperture, but with each event/project in its own folder, you do not have to rearrange thousands of images. In the Inspector on the left pane, you will see that you can open the iPhoto Library folder and see the events folder. Open the events folder and you will see a list of all the events/projects. This process is a bit of your time. Start by selecting your first event, and then click file > Masters to plan to move. When the dialog box opens, will give you the opportunity to choose where the folder will be moved. What you can do is select your username under Favorites, select a photo and put it in there (or create a new folder in the pictures). After selecting your destination, you want to chose the Format subfolder and select the name of the project. What this did that create a folder named after your project/event and put all the photos in this case in this new folder. You can see an example of name of file listed at the bottom for you. Once you have that together, you can select move the masters. Opening will move the pictures when you have selected, keeping them in their event/folder and keep a clean organization. You will notice that the move took place, a little tag icon in each image as bottom right, moved his stating that the images are now referenced in Aperture and not a managed master longer.

We must continue to do this for each project/event, one at a time. Once you're done, you're done. All files will be organized in their respective folders in the location you have chosen. The beauty of it is that they are already referenced in Aperture, and if you want to continue using it, you don't have to do something else. You can leave it there and just keep adding to the opening you take more pictures. Second, you can now import into LR by selecting them where they are, by clicking Add in the LR import menu. Leaving them where they are and the references as well.

If you want to add the images as well, go opening IPTC data and in the top menu bar, select metadata > write IPTC metadata to the master. You can do it before or after you reposition the masters. But I would before importing to LR.

It is the method that I used and it was the most successful without losing any of my organization in iPhoto and do not duplicate one of the images. It seems a little complicated, but considering that apple gives you no choice of in iPhoto, it's the safest way to free yourself of their shit. The important thing to remember when referencing these images in Aperture or iPhoto is to never move any file once its in a folder on your site of photos and already referenced by the program. Later if you want to use iPhoto, you can simply import this kind of things once again, leaving in their location and their SEO in Aperture. Which has its limitations as well, but such is life in the world of apples. You have really no other choice.

The two other options are to use these two programs: iPhoto2Disk (http://www.iphototodisk.com/index.html) or PhotoShare (http://code.google.com/p/phoshare/). The first, iPhoto2Disk cost 12.99 and is supposed to be able to let you export all from iPhoto in its current state. PhotoShare is free, but I haven't personally used it. I felt more record ranging from the road of opening just because I knew that Aperture communicates well with iPhoto and I can easily get aperture to what iPhoto should have been able to do in export.

I hope this helps everyone!

  • Move from Mac to PC/Windows 7: How can I move my iPhoto library on PowerPC Mac to a Windows 7 PC?

I'm a Mac... soon to a PC?  My Apple iBook G4 is in need of a replacement, and I think to move to a Windows 7 laptop.  There is virtually no information online about the passage of a Mac to PC.  Given all the ads of MSFT, I expected more help.

My main concern is transfer my photos easily without having to reorganize everything.  I currently use iPhoto and there is no version for the PC.  I'd appreciate any help advice with this process.  Is there a good program similar to iPhoto, which is recommended?

After importation, Windows Live Photo Gallery will recognize the organizational structure that iPhoto had or will I have to create new folders and spend time re-organizing?

Unfortunately, you will need to spend some time of reorganization. If you have metadata attached to photos, Windows Live Photo Gallery will recognize it. If you have currently organized in folders in OS X, it will make the organization process much easier to copy them into the images folder in Windows 7 and they will be automatically entered in the photo library.

  • How can I move all my images Lightroom 5 25 000 since an external hard drive on an internal drive (ssd) on a mac?

I have all my image files from Lightroom (LR) on an external hard drive that is complete and has been too slow in use.

I want to keep my existing LR but catalog to move ALL images, etc. on my laptop with ssd quick nice previews.

    How?

    Any suggestions?

This should be really basic information but I searched through pages and pages of comments, tutorials, videos, books, but doomed if I see a relevant clear explanation anywhere!

I copied all the folder containing everything for my portable drive.

But when I opened LR I get no option to locate images, folder etc.

When I open the new folder on my laptop drive I can see all the content but .lrcat items are not selectable.

    What I am doing wrong?

    The process should be:

Move photos in their existing folder structure to the new hard drive.

Move the catalog as well as the catalogname Previews.lrdata folder settings folder in a folder on the new hard drive.

Double-click the catalogname.lrcat file to open it in LR.

Right-click on the files in LR-library level and make a lack of find file (or whatever the phrase is) and LR to say where is the folder is now on the new hard drive.

You say there is no option to find missing in LR library files when you right click on one of the folders in the left panel?

    Hello

It's always a good idea to have a paper copy of a disc (for resettlement and repairs).

And Yes, backup all your data as 'can' happen during an upgrade that is supposed to be easy.

This is a very good guide for what you want to do:

Make sure you go from Vista 32 bit to Windows 7 32 bit to be able to do an upgrade.

«How To Upgrade from Vista to Windows 7 Edition Home Premium»

    http://www.howtogeek.com/HOWTO/6892/how-to-perform-an-upgrade-from-Vista-to-Windows-7/

    And follow these steps first:

Go to the HP website and see if Windows 7 drivers are available for your make and model computer / laptop.

    http://WWW8.HP.com/us/en/support-drivers.html

If this is not available, Windows 7 will not properly work for you.

Run the "Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor.

Check if your specifications are compatible for Windows 7:

For other questions about installing Windows 7, there is a Forum specifically for that because it is the Forum of Installation of Vista, you're in.

  • How can I move my library iPhoto for WD My Cloud?

I have a MBP 2011 OSx 10.9.5 running with a 320 GB hard drive which is full (only 4.5 GB of free space remaining).  I'm not being updated lately b/c I don't have disk space to do so.  I have an iPhoto library 164GB I want to spend.  I backed up the iPhoto library on a WD My Passport without any problems.  I have a WD My Cloud 2 TB NAS.  I want to save my iPhoto on the NAS library so that whenever I want to access iPhoto I can't plug my DHM.  Or if I travel and you want to access my photos I don't have to carry the EHD with me.  Essentially, I want to use the NAS to accommodate my iPhoto library for access to daily and then use my passport EHD to perform manual backups on a regular basis, so I have a backup of the SIN.  My question... How can I move my iPhoto library to the NAS and it work to use the SIN as the point of main access for my photos?  Thank you.

Short answer: you don't have. It is not a supported disc format and you risk of major loss.

Long answer: iPhoto must have the library sitting on drive to Mac OS extended (journaled) format. Users with the library sitting on disks formatted also regularly report matters including, but not limited to, import, export, save the changes and photo sharing.

    See this article

to learn more. Also note the comment:

"In addition, store the iPhoto library on a network rather than locally on your computer can also lead to poor performance or loss of data."

This is doubly true in the case of wireless connections: If you try to change the library (i.e. make albums, move pictures around, keyword, brand books or slide shows etc.) or edit individual photos in it wireless be very cautious. Dropouts are a common reality of wireless network, and does it happen while the app is written to the database, then your library will be damaged. Simply, I wouldn't do this with my libraries.

If disk space is a problem, and it is very definitely for you:

Make sure the drive is formatted Mac OS extended (journaled)

    1. quit iPhoto

2 copy the iPhoto library to your folder on the external drive.

3 hold down the option (or alt) key when launching iPhoto. In the menu that appears, select "Choose Library" and navigate to the new location. From there it will be the default location of your library.

4 test the library, and when you are sure that all is well, trash on your HD internal for free space.

  • How can I move images from Lightroom 5 to Lightroom CC 2015?

I have pictures on lightroom 5 I can ' t in lightroom cc2015 access.  Why not all the images moved with the version update?

I tried selecting them and then manually moving them, also exporting them but was not successful.  How can I move these images to new version?

    Thank you

    My suggestions-

    1. Uninstall LR5. It out of your system, you use it again.

    2. find your catalog file (a file of type. LRCAT) using the operating system (Windows Explorer / Mac Finder)

    3. open the xxx. LRCAT file (double click or Right click/open)

    As ManiacJoe says above-

LR6/CC will transfer your data LR5 in a new catalog of LR6 format with a "-2" added at the end of the name; your catalog LR5 remains unchanged.

    4. When you then open Lightroom, the default catalog will be the converted catalog.

Consider the catalog 'old' LR5 as a backup only. (If you try to open a second time, you will have an another LR6/cc catalog called xxx-2 - 2.lrcat)

AND-you, the pictures are NOT IN LIGHTROOM! They exist in the folders on your computer. The Lightroom Catalog is a database that displays thumbnails that have a 'link' to your photos.

AND you don't have to "Move" anything! Everything remains exactly where it was, (Images, catalog)

I imported my mail from Outlook, and they went into a local folders. I want that they in the main folder for the my account section. How can I move them there?
For the moment, I create each folder and then copy the contents of one folder to another - crazy, and I have dozens of files

    DOH!

After spending most of last night slowly moving the files from the Local level to the account that it's a little late for me to go back the other way, but what you suggested looks like it could work.
Still seems simpler to 'right click' a folder and "move it" and all subfolders to have it move properly as well. Of course your test produces a different result for me. I wasn't able to drag all the folders with the sub folders and the contents of these subfolders go with it, only the contents of the main folder is gone.
Still, as I said, I have now done most probably time call it a day on this topic and I hope that all similar problems see your answer above - cheers.

I would like to have at least one of my toolbars that are displayed at the BOTTOM of my browser open screen. How can I move a toolbar from the top to the bottom of the page? I don't want to do this by using an extension, and when I read about the extension, I really have not seen how it would move the toolbar to the top-down any browser page open.
Thanks in advance for the supply, the answer and the procedure to get this accomplished.

You can't drag an entire toolbar to the bottom of the window. The Bar of the Addon is a "toolbar", drag whatever you want from the Palette to customize or a toolbar up to the bar of the Addon.
