How can I remove focus from and to the bottom?

I have a second 30 short interview, where my topic is developed pretty good most of the time, but because of what I guess was the auto focus, the background comes in and out update quick to flare as it tries to focus it. I was wondering if there was advice on how to stabilize the background maybe? I tried stabilizing chain (even if it is regular and tripod shooting), but any other ideas?

It is difficult simply because the bottom is stationary, but there some words on what you can easily change... In addition, advice on how to avoid this problem in the future? Thank you

You have most likely diagnosed the problem correctly, it is hard to know without seeing the video.

Since it is a locking (from your description), you might take a freeze frame of the image when the background is blurry, place it on the V1 (maybe even add more Gaussian Blur) and then hide in the only show the interviewee on V2. You can't solve an out of the interviewed focus, but you can keep the background blur.

Real shooters still use manual focus. They can use auto to help set the focus but then switch to manual for the recorded shooting and grids manually if necessary.
