How can I run two screens side by side in Windows 7 Ultimate?

I use Windows 7 Ultimate, 32-bit version on a Dell desktop computer.  I have two LCD screens showing identical pictures.  What I want to do is to have the two screens as one, so that I can drag a document or an image on a screen while watching another image or another document on the original screen.  I'm used to be able to do this until I had to format my C: drive to get rid of a malfunction.  I have reloaded my Windows 7 Ultimate but forgot or cannot display restore both. A single screen appears when I look at the display section in the Panel. Any help to get back to my two original screen function would be very welcome.

1 DVI, the second connector is VGA or also known as the D - Sub. A monitor itself requires no software to run.

What connectors you join takes him to the computer? Connectors in the same group as the USB, audio jacks and network are referred to as being on board, connectors in parallel slits separated from these ports will be a graphics card. In this photo embedded graphics connector would be where is the serial port.

Not all motherboards will allow you to use both the on board graphics card ports at the same time and. Installation of the card automatically turns off the edge card.

In this example, the graphics card has two types of port (analog video port = VGA) and in this case the two ports can be used.

Some graphics cards have only DVI ports, but most will support VGA with the use of an adapter DVI / VGA
