How can I transfer the operating system on the new HARD drive?

Toshiba Satellite C850D-11F, Windows 8.1. Out of warranty

The hard drive is no longer achievable and will have been checked and declared "Kaput". I can get my hands on a fresh drive. But how to save the operating system that came with the laptop. Toshiba provides a free license? Is it possible that the licence can be transferred. I have the serial number etc. on the sticker on the back of the laptop.

I assume that you did not create recovery media, right?

(or similar) My question is how can I move the operating system Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005 to a new hard drive.  Since the problem is the hard drive and all the computer a new operating system should not be purchased.  If there is no way to move it is it possible Microsoft send a replacement free of charge, or at least OS with only shipping.  My computer came with it pre-installed, and I have not received the drive with the OS on it.  What can I do?  Thank you for your information.

When you received your entry door, it came with a CD or operating system recovery disc. If you no longer have that (or has not made a recovery disc set a utility included), contact Gateway to buy a set of recovery disks. It is normally fairly cheap. Then install the new hard drive and booting with the recovery disk to restore your computer to the factory State. MS - MVP - Elephant Boy computers - don't panic!

  • How can I reinstall the operating system on a new hard drive?

I strongly suspect failure of hard drive on my old computer XPS 420. Data recovery isn't a problem. However, because the way I too lazy to buy a whole new operating system, is possible that I can transfer the installation of Windows Vista on a new hard drive? I told me that Dell will send me an installation disc to do, but how to make a record like this, and is there another way?

I'm thinking of ghosting the HDD on another and the use of the recovery for nuke partition in a new facility, but it would even work?

    Thank you

The simplest method, I prefer to install a replacement hard drive, is to clone the existing hard drive to the new, that will also transfer all applications and programs.

You need an imaging utility, similar to True Image Home 2015.

    http://www.Acronis.com/homecomputing/products/TrueImage

Acronis resize partitions transferred to match the size of the new hard drive.

Hard drive manufacturers, also have their own free cloning software available, but it can be used only with their hard drives.

First, install the new drive as the secondary and the image of the main hard drive in it.

Immediately after the cloning, shut down the system, switch the data cable [SATA port 0] to the new disk, making the new master hard drive and see if the system boots properly.

Start the system with only the new hard drive connected.

Be sure to leave the original drive disconnected, until the new hard drive is working to your satisfaction.

Before cloning a hard drive, make sure that the existing drive has no corruption or virus on it, because they will be transferred to the new hard drive.

It will take a second SATA data cable, there should be a spare connector to SATA power inside the housing.

What is obtaining a disc from the Dell operating system Vista OEM [If Dell still copies of this available media], but you can be out of luck unless you have a warranty from Dell, but it's worth a try to see what is happening.

If you reside in the United States, or the Canada and are the registered owner of the computer, with an active warranty, a disk that contains the operating system specific to your system factory installed can be requested HERE.

Note: Dell may impose a charge for the disc.

If you do not live in the United States, contact the Support from Dell, which is located in your country.

Can you tell me how I can move my operating system and all the data to my new 1 TB of my little, 160 gig SATA drive SATA drive.  Is it a question of copy / paste?  I am running XP.

I know that I can do the clean install and change the boot etc drive, but this means that I have to reinstall all my drivers, network and all that jaz.

Just reading.  Is there a XP system image backup center?

The new hard drive manufacturer normally provides software to do what you want to do cloning.

    Ask them about it.

  • How do we install the operating system on a new hard drive?

    Hello

I thought all I had to do was use my recovery disc supplied with my notebook, but while the laptop was working fine for a few days there is now an error message when I try to load windows, something along the lines of "image error, check the Setup disk.

    I did something wrong?
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

    Thank you

    Hey Buddy,

Installation on the new HARD drive is very easy. All you need is Toshiba Recovery disk and you must boot from that disk to begin the installation. Everything is done automatically and factory settings are restored to the new HARD disk.

    It work?

  • Where and how can I reinstall the external hard drive to the new HD to the computer?

    Original title: HD crashed.

I want to thank the person who answered my question about the HD crashed I saved all my data and window xp. My next question is, how and where can I reinstall external hard drive for the new HD to the computer? Should I send it to drive c or where? I'm not strong when it comes to computers. I know just enough to get me in trouble. Thank you.

    Hello!

You will need to use a full copy of Windows XP.  Should be a sticker with the product key on the side of your desk or below if it is a laptop.

Once you have this drive, you can reinstall Windows XP.  After you have installed all the software and drivers, you will be able to transfer all your data to the new HARD drive.

If you don't have a copy of Windows XP, you can probably get a copy of the recovery from the manufacturing of computer media.  Just to provide the model and serial number and they should sent it.

  • HP 6310y can't get the new hard drive to load windows 7

    model 6310y - Windows 7 Home premium 64-bit

My desktop PC has stopped working.  I took it to the local computer store and they said it was the HD.  I bought the new hard drive and tried to install the retail of Windows 7 home premium 64-bit OS.  I got an error Code 0 x 80070002.

I called HP support... told me that I needed their brand of recovery disks because the motherboard or BIOS would not allow me to install Windows 7 on new replacement HD disks without having their (HP).  So I ordered their... $17

I bought another new HD and tried to install Windows 7 OS with HP recovery disks.  This time got the 0xe0ef000e error Code.

I have to mention every time trying to install OS on new replacement HD... He got about 8 to 12 minute installation before receiving error messages.

I called HP support... this time said that the retail version of Windows 7 OS must have worked and that I didn't need the HP recovery discs brand new replacement HD installation.   They offered me to pay $199 and send my office to fix inclusive it... all.

Very confused.  I never had something like this before... I had several hard drives die over the years and have replaced the myself and installed all of the software including myself OS without any problem like this.

Memory retrieves okay when using the diagnostic f9 key... She showed problems with HD during one of my many attempts of diagnostics

Not sure if it's a bad mother or the video card integrated... do not know how to find either... since I can not the PC market

It will start at Blue HP screen & most of the time allow me to enter in the screens f9, f10 or ESC.

Don't know if its worth paying $200 to fix this or go and buy a new one for about the same price.

any suggestion or help is appreciated

    Thank you

I had to send it back to HP.  It is a bad motherboard.  They dropped the price a bit to replace the motherboard.  I don't remember how much they charged me.   I'm guessing around $200 - $300

  • Portege Z830 - where can I get the new HARD drive

    Hello

I have problem with my toshiba portege z830 ultrabook.
My HARD drive died, and I don't know where I can get the new HARD drive.

I've got guaranteed but I am forgotten registered my cell phone before when I went for repairs not authorized, because my first problem was with the motherboard.

This motherboard has been replaced for new ones.
If my warranty is maybe cancelled.

Well, that's my problem to another.

    What should I do?
Please help me. I am available to do anything.

    Hello

I think that you should first check if your warranty is still valid.
This can be checked on Toshiba Unitdetails page:
    http://APS2.toshiba-tro.de/unitdetails/

Where the warranty is valid, get in touch with maintainer authorized Toshiba in your country for replacement.

But as far as I know the Portege Z830 was equipped with an mSATA SSD drive.
This means that the laptop doesn't support HDD 2.5 common but requires special mSATA SSD drive module.

In case your warranty is not valid, you will pay for a new mSATA module.
Replacement should do a service provider authorized Toshiba as well because this replacement is a little tricky on this model of laptop.

  • How can I move the old hard drive to new programs.

I tried to upgrade Windows 2000 Pro, XP Pro on my hard drive. XP would install, but would break to the BSOD with a STOP of the F4 code. BCupdate2 says that the startup code is up to date. NTDLR and boot.ini and NTDETECT.COM are present on the old hard drive. After 2 days of searching and trying different solutions, I bought a new hard drive and installed XP Pro top. System is now running. I want to make my programs from the old hard drive to the new hard disk as well as shortcuts, system settings, user accounts, and user data. I want the new HDD to resemble the old hard disk would look like had XP installed successfully. I have a utility provided with the hard drive, but it says it will take the BONES of the old drive and put it on the new drive that would make my non-operational system. Any help? The history of the old drive is 64 XP was installed originally, but some of my programs wouldn't not below so I installed Windows 2000 Pro. Which was great for several years, but the new versions of the software I use has stopped running less than 2000.

I'm sorry, but it is not possible to move programs from one operating system to another.  You must reinstall the programs.

Your data files must be in the Documents and Settings\ folder from the old hard drive and you can copy them to the folder on the Windows XP system.

  • How can I move the internal hard drive containing the LR catalog to become external hard drive?

I'm upgrading to a new computer.  With this approach, I took the hard drive 1 TB "internal" hard with my LR catalog and pictures from my old computer and hooked up as a hard drive on the new computer.   My next step is to load CC Lightroom on the internal drive of the new computer and remove the software from the old hard drive, which is now just a disk storage external photo.

Then, the tricky part where I need help.  How LR to recognize the existing catalog on what is now the external hard drive?

    Thank you

As DJ says, double-click the catalog on the external hard drive.

Or, in the menu of LR, / file/open/and navigate on the external drive.

Whatever it is, after the opening of the catalog, you will need to go to the library, Panel folders module and 'find missing' on each top-level to tell LR you folders, move the folders on the external drive.

  • can not get the new hard drive to work in the Pavilion ze4805us laptop

have an HP pavilion ze4805us laptop which had a total hard drive failure... recovery disks were lost in a fire... replaced the hard drive with a Western Digital 250 GB drive... computer recognizes the drive, but with only 137 GB... impossible to obtain the Windows Millennium disk to install... I have it get the PXE - E61 error code... have looked for answers and tried a few suggestions to fix the error code, but no luck so far... would like to throw this laptop and runs again, it was so nice all in operation. Can someone help me with this? Thanks to all in advance... rrcar6

At the level of the BIOS, HARD drive should show the full capacity regardless of the distribution, but it will be limited based on what the current logical block installed the BIOS supports.  For example, the 250 GB HDD Needs LBA 48 bit to be recognized by the BIOS in its entirety.  Western Digital only provides downloads of software and support going back to Windows XP.  Windows Millennium Edition is not able to recognize the full capacity of the drive.  Finding drivers compatible with Windows ME is perhaps another challenge that XP uses a different architecture than Windows ME done.

It seems that this laptop is the same time that the books mentioned in this thread.  Response from JackShack gives the best explanation as to why he shows quite different in the BIOS.  It has been many years, but I do not remember that the capacity of the HARD disk had exceeded what the BIOS at the time supported resulting in the 137 GB limit displayed in the BIOS.  This section of Western Digital shows that this problem is related to the operating system or BIOS supporting however, this should not prevent Windows to install correctly.

I'm sure it's already done, as it was not a new BIOS since 2004, but guarantee the newest BIOS is installed.  Logical block address 48 bits, necessary for the larger disks (larger for the time) was released in 2003.  The 2004 related BIOS earlier than probably took supported LBA.  What is the current version of BIOS?

What is the exact message that you get when you try to install Windows Millennium Edition?

  • Installation of operating system on a new hard drive

My compact presario v4832ea hard drive just died yesterday. It's a Toshiba MK8025GAS - 80 GB Ultra ATA/100 EIDE hard drive - 5 400 rpm, 2.5 inches of width, height 9.5 mm. Now I think to upgrade to a bigger, but I don't know if I'll be able to use the installation CD of Windows Xp with a hard drive to a different size. I am fearing a message in the sense of "can not install operating system. Incorrect hard drive size.

  • I upgraded my computer, the new operating system on a new hard drive. Want to get my favorites on Firefox off my old drive, but can't find the file.

I upgraded my computer, adding a second hard disk for a new operating system and kept the old drive as a data disc. I assumed that I could install Firefox on the new disk and import my favorites from the old installation of Mozilla on the old disk. I can't find the files on the old drive with my favorites. They're still here, or when I reinstalled Firefox, I lost everything even if it was on another drive? I can't find the backup on the old disk files and want to restore my old favorites. Is it possible to do this?

You must find your profile folder in the old drive, the way in which must be:

    1. First display the hidden files and folders:

    2. Then go to:
      • < old drive >: \AppData\Roaming\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles \Users\ < username >
    3. Enter in your profile, and then enter the folder bookmarkbackups .
    4. Copy the latest file from json (backup of bookmarks)
    5. Then restore from them:
