  Surely you are not pointing to the correct LR 5 catalog.

  Then, launch LR 5 (No 6), take note of the exact location and name of the LR 5 catalog (Edit-> settings-> General catalogue), then close LR 5, open LR 6 and point to this exact catalog.

  You can contact your computer manufacturer and ask them to send you a set of recovery disks.

  They should do this for a small fee.
