How do I reinstall my Time Machine

My time machine seems to be full! How is it, I thought that old data will be removed and make room for new data. The text says; You have a space of 1 t, but only 300 free and you have 405 to race.
Now, I've lost the whole time machine, because I took it away. How do I reinstall my Time Machine?

I don't understand the question...

I guess that you are talking about Time Capsule (hardware router with hard disk inside) of Time Machine (software backup on the computer).

I thought the old data will be deleted and make room for new data.

When you perform an update of the OS, it gets lost... He really needs wipe the drive and start again.

Now, I've lost the whole time machine, because I took it away. How do I reinstall my Time Machine?

Do you need to recover anything from the old backup? Or you want to preserve the old backup, then use archive... plug a Mac to format USB key into the TC 1 TB or more and it will do a full backup.

If you do not need to backup then simply click on erase and use the quick erase, which will take a few minutes at most.

So just to be clear. Once you clear the disk the old backups are gone... and you can then start a new fresh backup...

If this isn't what you want to do that... so DO NOT CLEAR... Once you clear, you can't recover.

But it's the way to start with a new clean backup.

  • How can I restore mac Time machine backup to most recent?

So, I recently met several problems with my old mac. He started acting upward with the blinking folder and question mark more often. So I did multiple time machine backups and have since then tried to reinstall the OS and many other options, but it looks like my mac middle of 2007 has had its day. So I bought a new mac and tried to restore the back upward on the external hard drive. I get the message that his back is an older version and it cannot be restored and I should use from the other mac migration assistant.

So the question is: If the first mac is burned and I can not restore settings etc of the time external hard disk machine, how to restore the whole upward? Can I transfer files only?

    Very much appreciated.

    g

    Hi Sir,

You cannot restore data in time machine just like that. You use the data transfer assistant to recover your old records to your new Mac.

The data that you used time machine made to your old mac are not available to your new mac. There is limitation of the system.

    Hope this could help you.

  • How to set up backup Time Machine with MacBook?

    Hello community:

I wonder what is the best way to configure a Time Machine backup with a new MacBook.

Because the device has only a USB port that is also used to load, I don't really feel comfortable that I can only backup wile, the MacBook is on battery. That doesn't seem fair.

One possibility would be to use the adapter USB C AV that she can continue to charge the MacBook while being a USB hard drive is connected. But I'm not a big fan of having to deal with three cards for a simple task like a backup.

Apple promotes wireless with the MacBook. One possibility is to use a (rather expensive) Time Capsule or a NAS that takes care of Time Machine.

There are now hard drives wireless market. Does anyone have experience with these?

I'd be curious to know how you do it.

    Thank you!

Ideal for keeping backups Time Machine 'behind the scenes', you want to use the solutions SIN or Time Capsule. You can also use a 802.11ac AirPort Extreme with a USB external HD as well.

Don't forget the partial backups will occur at least once per hour after the first full backup is made to take full advantage of what offers Time Machine. Although the connection of an external disk directly to the MacBook would potentially offer the best performance of overall data transfer, it must be connected.

Unfortunately, I have no experience with hard drives wireless so I can't help you there. Because they would have to connect to the same network of Wi - Fi as the MacBook, all backups would go first the wireless AP, then, on this disc. I can only imagine the performance of data transfer to be a little dismal at best.

  • How can I migrate a time machine backup external USB drive to time capsule

Searched the forums and can't seem to find an answer. With the help of El Capitan 10.11.6. You want to transfer backups Time Machine 4 years on an external USB drive on my new Time Capsule. Any ideas would be MUCH appreciated.

There is no official method because it has problems.

    There's no official way.

    Here see Q18. http://pondini.org/TM/FAQ.html

We recommend that people not me there. It has not proven reliable long-term. Start a new backup on the TC and keep the USB stick in the form of archive. After a few months or a year you won't have it.

You have to understand the Time Machine backup otherwise locally the CF network. It is easy enough to move the backup network local but much harder the other way around.

  • I updated firefox to version 11 and lost all my folders and bookmarks, how to restore the using Time Machine?

I use Mac OS X Lion. I use Firefox for my research and organized many bookmarks into folders. All bookmarks disappeared after I've upgraded to version 11. I tried to find my profile as suggested in the forums and help documents, but I'm not. I have backups Time Machine of my entire system. Could someone please tell me what are the folders and/or files to restore to recover my favorites?

    Hi chrisquek,

    This Mozillazine article might help:

You could probably save all your personal information your profile backup.

  • How can I optimize my Time Machine?

I keep getting this message that my Time Machine doesn't have enough storage. Is it possible that I can delete older backups or clear this so I can keep backup? It's a 1 TB backup drive and I have not 1 TB worth of stuff on my computer.

The Time Machine works way is to pile up new files on top of old files until the disk is full. Then, he should be able thin files automatically to fit new backups... but if you do an upgrade of the OS for example... the backup is now too big to be successful. The backup cannot simply be thinned enough to do a new backup.

It is recommended to delete the files yourself from the backup. If you want to try... the instructions are here.

    Q12 http://pondini.org/TM/FAQ.html

She is rarely successful for more than a small amount of space...

And you are quite likely to make the unnecessary backup by removing something vital.

Our recommendation in that case is still every time you start on... erase the disc and simply start a new clean backup. This means that you have no history.

Or buy a new drive... a 3 or 4 TB USB drive is really not expensive and will guarantee you the space for a long time to come.

A 1 TB drive is not large enough for an almost full 1 TB drive... you should have at least 2 x the size of the disk and x 3 is much better... Be addressed or reader... but as you approach the readers become ineffective.

  • How to completely remove backups Time Machine from my hard drive internal?

Accidentally, I chose my internal hard drive as a backup to the location for Time Machine. Now I use an external hard drive for this but somewhere on my drive hard it is a file left behind. • How to restore mail using Time Machine data

Sunday my iMac that runs 10.8.5, had problems with Apple Mail. Email correctly loaded at 7:30 and was fine, but at 6:30 I opened the program to retrieve e-mail. The program crashed. I restarted the program and it quickly crashed again. After a 3rd reboot it crashed again. I restarted the iMac and when I tried to start the Mail, he acted as I've been setting up Apple Mail for the first time, wanting my e-mail address and password.

I thought there is a data file that creates that so corrupted Mail, you can go back in time Machine and restore it. OSX does not allow me to change the Mail or restore from Time Machine, it gives me an error message that Mail is part of the OSX system and cannot be changed.  I have 5 email accounts that keeps track of the mail and so far it has only one account setup. I would like to restore all the email accounts to backup Saturday night before all this started.

Is there a way to do this? Any thoughts on this is appreciated.

    John boubacar diallo

Make a backup, preferably 2 backups on 2 separate drives.

    Quit the application.

In Finder and hold the option/alt key while clicking on the menu item Go. Select the library. Then go to the Mail folder. Enter Time Machine and restore this file.

If this does not work, there are additional e-mail folders in Library/Application Support, covers and containers.

  • I have a MBP end 2011 running yosemite which is dead.  How can I migrate (from Time Machine) on a similar MBP (mid-2012).  I don't mind if I lose data on the MBP of the latter.  Essentially, I want my old MBP to take the newest one.

My MBP end 2011 died.  I want to migrate its content on Time Machine to a bit newer MBP.  Basically the old MBP return to the most recent.  It doesn't matter if the data on the new MBP are lost.  Any help would be appreciated.

    Hello

Yes you can do it. Pondini (here) has a few options to do.

You can also try Migration Wizard. See this article. But I'd go with Pondini, the guru of the Time Machine.

  • How to backup Mac without Time Machine that is erasing external hard drive?

    Hello

I'll put in my computer at the store to have the battery changed and to back up my computer. Only got 1 external hard drive and 80% busy, I can't really destroy the entire disk to back up my Mac with Time Machine. I also fear that I manually back up aka. copy and paste all the files, things like iTunes or Photo Booth will not read data from the library when 'restored' aka. copy and paste again and so I have to start over. What should I do?

Thank you very much for the help!

If you have more data on your MBA to amount of available space on your external HARD drive, you will need to:

1 remove data to the external HARD drive to make room.

2 delete the data on the MBA.

    3 a combination of 1 and 2.

    4. use another external HARD drive.

    Ciao.

How can I get the button reinstall in TimeMachine to be active? Earlier I see my backup files in the window of time Machine, but the button reinstall is dimmed and does not respond when clicked on. My OS is El Capitan.

How can I get the button reinstall in TimeMachine to be active?

There is no button reinstall in Time Machine. You may be wondering about the restore button.

Use the time scale to the far right of the screen of the time Machine to go back, at a date you want.

Then use the Finder as an interface to navigate to find the file you need

Click the file to select it

    Click restore
