How do the backup catalog on different hard drive for archiving?

Hello!

I regularly update / save my catalog when you exit Lightroom but I also back up to another hard disk.

I mean drag-and - drop isn't the way to go.  Is there another way to backup on hard disk other than Lightroom Catalog is stop smoking, except by using a backup program?

Thank you, Teri

When you leave LR, before clicking on the backup button, click on the button to choose and point the path to your favorite place.

    Hi danielleg,

    Greetings!

Connect your drives on the computer on which your catalog is present

Simply copy the catalog and stick to 3 different disks.

The location of the Lightroom Catalog is typically C:\Users\UserName\Pictures\Lightroom (Windows) and User\Pictures. Lightroom (MAC)

  • OK to have more than one backup catalog on different hard drives?

    Hello

I always backup my catalog on a hard drive in my computer Tower, which was the first hard drive to hold Lightroom 2008-2012.

In 2013, I started to store photos from 2013-2015 on a second hard drive, but have always supported catalogue until the first hard drive.

I would like to have a few copies of the catalog for obvious reasons, so it is OK to switch alternately between 2 different on the same computer tower HDs when I back up or not?

I think remember me hearing we should keep the catalog on original destination as first installation disk and do not want to spoil anything.

Wouldn't be better to keep the original data disc 2008-2012 catalog and sometimes save on an external LaCie instead?

Also the catalog saves, but not previews - previews yet save in LR 4.4, or who was in older versions?

I don't really like the previews but noticed that they were not to save.

    Super thanks, Teri

As far as I KNOW, the previews were never saved - LR has always been able to re - create if necessary...

Of course, you can have your backups of catalog anywhere you want, but you should really have them on a different physical disk in your catalog. The easiest way would be to always back up to a place and have your standard system backup program include this place when he does his periodic backups

  • Restore the backup to an external hard drive

original title: if I reinstall my Vista, how to make the backup on an external hard drive? Is it a procedure drag-and - déposer? I use a Seagate external hard drive and there is no help section.

Have run the back up to the external hard drive, I would like to know how to use it when I reinstall Vista Home Premium system.

Also, I tried to check the hard disk for errors, and he has not finished the event.

Assuming that you used the backup of Vista and made program a full backup and not an image backup (although some of these procedures include the restoration of a full image backup), here is some information to help you restore data.  Try to read or at least most of the analytical documents before you start, so you get a good understanding of the process and the procedures involved.  Restoring from an external hard drive is a little different from restoring a secondary internal hard drive, CD/DVD or Flash drive or on the network (although quite close to the procedure of network). If you have used the Vista backup program, you can not restore using drag-and-drop - you must use Vista restore program.

Here is an article on the restore procedure:http://www.vista4beginners.com/How-to-restore-files to make sure you do this right.  It's a selective restore of a full or selective backup (not a full restore from a full backup) - but since you did a full backup, it matches your process more closely than would a full restore.

This is a GREAT article on the backup and restore processes in Vista http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/magazine/2007.09.backup.aspx , but he won't go into detail about the restoration process - considering almost as easy, of course.  But it teaches you a lot about what is possible and how to do it.  It also focuses primarily on the full backup process, but he did mention the full backup and restore process as well.

Here is an article on the advanced use of restoration (during normal restore does not work):http://www.mayankraichura.com/post/2009/08/06/Avdvanced-Restore-via-Windows-Vista-Backup-and-Restore-Center.aspx.

    1. after the start of "backup and Restore Center."

    2. I chose "Advanced Restore"

    3. I was did not an administrator password... maybe because my account is an administrator account.

4 choose "files from a backup made on a different computer.

    5. in the dialog box indicating "Select the location of the backup to restore", select "hard drive, CD or DVD...". »

    6. under the drop-down list box, select your drive/partition and continue

    7. If all the backups on your drive, it will show a list of them.

    8. in my case, he showed a backup, but in the backup location, it will show "backup location is not available."

    9. I was frustrated, but then I somehow just select this backup (Yes... even if he said that thebackup location is not available " ")

    10. and you press "next".

    11 guess what... no error!

    12. a window appeared asking me if I wanted to do a full restore, or I want to select specific folders or files.

    13. I selected the folders I wanted to restore and bingo... it their restored smoothly.

    14. so that the next time see a mistake, try to continue with him... ;)

I don't know if this will help, but it does not provide much information about the process (when it works and even when it does not).

    I hope this helps.

    Good luck!

Why I can not install Lightroom to a custom through the creative cloud location?

Lightroom must be installed on your local disk and cannot be installed to a creative custom as other Cloud applications location. Lightroom always installs to the default location and does not take into account any preference you select for a custom location. This behavior is specified.

The new 1 TB is now Local Dick C and the smallest 500 GB by C has been changed and is now Local Disk F. PSE11 runs from the new C and all my photos are on C and F, but the catalog showed up at F. I want to delete all the old files on F for free space because they are all cloned to the new 1 TB C, so I want to catalog PSE11 only point to the pictures on C I tried to create a new catalog and import my pictures from C. The images arrive and look tuned to C but when I close PSE11 and then reopen this new catalogue, the path of the image shows F, as does the original catalogue. So, now, I have two catalogs seem to point to F but I want: 1) have a single catalog pointing to C; (2) deleting catalogs pointing to F; (3) then reformat f: so I have a 500 GB clean old hard drive for future expansion. The problem is related to the cloning process.

As stated in the first post of Neale, the Organizer acknowledges readers by their letter AND their serial number. In these situations, both drives have the same serial number and the Organizer cannot tell who is who...

More information in the help file on John R Ellis from his psedbtool:

    http://www.johnrellis.com/psedbtool/#_Writing_File_Metadata

Scroll down to: "change the serial number of the drive, a Volume."

Check first with the DOS command 'Flight' that both disks have the same volume id, and then try to change one of the drives serial.

Hello 88feederups, apparently, your only recourse is to press F-7 to continue and see if the system boots to the desktop.

If you manage to get to the desktop, I suggest trying to backup your important data and make sure you have a version of Windows XP. You must also consider finding a new hard drive.

The failed Test Smart can be a reason for the hard drive do not completely, if not already.

Here is the link for the specifications of your system and it shows the system comes with a hard drive of 160 GB Ultra DMA.

It is a type IDE ATA hard drive and not the new kind of Sata.

  • How can I manage the same catalog on external hard drive on two different PCs

    Hello to everyone.

I would lik to see whether there is a possibility to manage the same catalog on two different workstations. For example, I make a few adjustments in the morning on my pc 1 ad, and then later I close the office but I need to continue to work on the same files on pc 2 without starting all over. Then I make other adjustments to other files that I end the next day on 1 pc.

    Anyone please help?

    Hi Anna,.

You can store the catalog Lightroom and original images on an external hard drive, and connect the player to the computer on which you want to change.

  • How to copy a catalog of external hard drive to the hard drive of the computer to use smart insights not connected to the external hard drive?

I am very new to LR5. I put LR5 in place so that my catalog and photos are on an external hard drive. I discovered that when not connected to the hard drive, LR5 can't find my catalog, therefore, I can't do any editing in intelligent insights, unless it is connected to an external hard drive. How can I fix this so that I can edit photos without being connected to an external hard drive. Is it possible to copy the catalog out of the hard disk on the computer's hard drive or I have to re-establish a new catalog using LR5? Must the catalog always be loaded onto the hard drive? Thank you in advance.

Yes that's correct. The LR catalog must be on the computer's internal drive. Then when you have smart previews activated you can change the image without going through the reader that they are connected. When you connect this drive images will be updated.

Simply COPY these 4 folders on your internal drive in a folder called Lightroom catalog that you create. Then open LR and go on the file menu point and select open catalog. Navigate to the folder you created called catalog in Lightroom and select the Lightroom Catalog.lrcat 5 file and click Open. Once restart Lightroom open change preferences, > preferences, and under the general tab, in the catalog default section make sure that "when starting to use this catalogue:" listings in the area where you copied the files. Something like Macintosh HD/Wherever, have created it this folder/that folder name/Lightroom catalog.lrcat 5.

  • Could not locate the backups on an internal hard drive

original title: had to re install vista, saved on another disc internal using backup windows and restore before hand but the pc can't see the old backups to the internal drive?

Hi, Ive got the OS vista home premium 32-bit os hdd (c) corrupt so re-installed. OK, so far... problem is my backup and restore stuff was recorded on one additional internal (e) hdd, problem is when I went to restore "the files selected" I needed, the ku'damm pc wouldn't even not watch on the backup drive internal and I wanted to just do a restore of the next point. seemed a bit of a waste of time, buying an extra drive just to save up if operating system wont even look after a clean install. I'm not stupid... but I'm confused... any help would be great :)

    Hello

    1. don't format you the other hard disk by accident during the reinstall of Windows?
2 - is a computer backup or backup of the data right?
    3. you see the other internal disk in the computer?

Follow these tips and give us more details.

    Suggestion 1:
    a. Click Start, click computer.
    b. If you can see the drive in the computer, and then open the drive and check if you can see the data here.

Also check the status of the internal drive in disk management.

    To open disk management:
Click Start, then type diskmgmt.msc in the start search box and press ENTER.

    Suggestion 2:
Try to restore the file by using the advanced restore option and check if you can see the hard drive.
    a. open the backup center and restore by clicking the Start button, clicking Control Panel, clicking system and Maintenance, and then restore and backup center.
    b. click Advanced Restore. If you are prompted for an administrator password or a confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.
    c. click files from a backup made on a different computer and then follow the steps.

  • It is safe to remove space takes up the backup files in my hard drive?

My hard drive is more complete without real explanation. So I did a scan with WinDirStat. It revealed that huge chunks of space have been taken up by System Volume Information, such as \{56a6d9db-bd86-11e4-b414-3085a93f2d32}{3808876b-c176-4e48-b7ae-04046e6cc752}.  When I explored the way, it shows that these are backup Windows, WindowsImageBackup, and Syscache.hve files. It seems that Windows 7 does automatically periodically, which explains why it keeps being implemented.

It is safe to delete these files?

System Volume Information contains the System Restore Points, and other (much more critical) data.  If you try to clean it, never do it directly.  Only use the control panel and delete the old system restore points or set it to use less space for them and others.

  • Backup to one external hard drive to another

Hoping someone can explain to me how to copy a backup of one hard external to another.  I managed to make a complete backup of the old iMac, my sister just before he died.  The backup is located on a WD My Passport for Mac and I would like to copy the backup to another external hard drive, maintaining the original on My Passport for Mac, just to keep safe in the event of failure of one of the external drives.  This backup contains the only copy of hundreds of pictures.  Any suggestion would be appreciated.  Thank you.

If it's a Time Machine backup, click here for more information.

If there is a bootable clone, rerun the utility of cloning, but with the new source and destination drives.

    Hello

Thanks for posting your question on the Microsoft community.

Thank you for details on the issue.

You can restore backed up files lost, damaged, or accidentally modified versions. You also to restore files individual, groups of files, or all files that you have saved.

If you are restoring files from a backup that was made on another computer, the files are restored in a folder under the user name that was used to create the backup. If the user names are different, you must navigate to the folder where the files are restored.

I suggest you use the steps in this article and check if it helps.
