How HBAS per server?
We deploy a UCS 5108 with 8 blades. We go to the boot from SAN. I already have to HBA is configured on the service profile. I have to add HBAS to the service profile for the data store when ESX is installed?
No, 2 vHABs are all you need. You need to add more if you need to connect with another fabric of SAN, or if your San had a lot of front-end ports (VMAX) and want ports dedicated to a specific app/server

necessary to enhance Network.http.Max - connections-per-server to javascript
I have an AJAX web application which is very sensitive the number of connections allowed by the browser. Bad things happen when the limit is set at the bottom: frozen screens, the uncommitted transactions, deadlocks, etc..
To avoid this, I need to check the current value of the configuration parameter "Network.http.Max - connections-per-server" program (i.e. javascript code) and to reject a request if the limit is too low with the instructions appropriate for the user.
I guess that's possible because "subject: config" restores all values of settings and even allows for user to change. However, the code-behind for the page is very complicated, so I can not understand how to accomplish my task. All I need is a function or a method returns the current value of a given configuration parameter.
Any help will be greatly appreciated.
Anatoly
You do not have access to the pref the subject: config page via a Web site.
In theory it is possible, but the user get a pop-up and must confirm each time.See also http://www.mozilla.org/projects/security/components/signed-scripts.html

Number of virtual machines per server: what is in the way
I've seen everything from 10:1 to 80-90: 1 VMs per server. What is a good average, and what is a good source to cite?
How about starting with 20 virtual machines per server on average?

Number of virtual machines per server
This number varies greatly with the type of workload and of (among other variables) network connectivity, but what would you say is a common number of virtual machines running on a particular server (NIC10 G ) platform? 10? 20? 40? The number of sockets/cores on this server?
Any contribution is appreciated.
Thank you
Hey Ex,.
This issue of $ 1 million has been requested several times before. The answer is simple - there is no definitive answer. There are so many variables that contribute to the number of virtual machines, you can run on a server:
-number of Sockets
-Core per socket-CPU speed
-Density memory
-Bandwidth allocated by host
-Storage connectivity & bandwidth
-Attributes VM & function of workload (amount of memory, CPU & disk by virtual machine)
Although you can probably squeeze a lot more virtual machines per server with densities increased memory & CPU power, also increases your default domain name. HA may be able to 'recover' virtual machines on a failed host, but how virtual machines are you willing to lose only once? When sizing of your hosts, also the failover capabilities take into account. Each of your cluster hosts should be able to tolerate the failure of at LEAST one host and meet all the requirements of memory & processor of the additional virtual machines now spread over the remaining hosts in the cluster. This is why administrators does not often grow over 60% of the capacity of their hosts. VMware uses a calculation of size "slot" to ensure you have adequate to your cluster failover capacity.
As typical, I see regularly around the mark of 20 VM per server on a typical 2-socket server with 96 GB of memory and dual 10 G uplinks. It is also good to think that most software licenses (VMware, Nexus 1000v etc.) is based on the counts of socket, and since the memory is going to be your first argument point - servers that can support large amounts of memory are usually an ideal choice. B250 is perfectly placed to virtual workloads like this, while the B230 is a little firecracker with a bit more CPU power under its hood so you need.
As vague as I was, I hope this starts your thought process
Kind regards
Robert

How to p2v server with FC HBA connected disks?
IM new to vmware.
Our ESX 4.0 environment is connected to an EMC CX4 via CF system. I cut a couple SATA LUNS and attached to our ESX environment and have successfully P2V had some servers on data warehouses, I created on these LUNS.
Now, I have a server that has 2 FC HBA connected to a brocade switch. This server has its 'E' drive mapped to a LUN SAS on the CX4 by fiber, using EMC Powerpath.
I want this server P2V, but once that one would P2V, how to reconnect the drive "E"? Can the VM also use the HBA using the ESX servers? (don't know how I would want that area...)
Can I move the LUNS for the server in the same zone as the LUNS ESX and they use a ROW for this virtual machine? If I do this, VMware reformat this LUN?
Any advice?
Thank you!
Hello and welcome to the forums.
Can I move the LUNS for the server in the same zone as the LUNS ESX and they use a ROW for this virtual machine? If I do this, VMware reformat this LUN?
Yes, it's exactly what you can do. Formatting of this storage wouldn't be a problem if you tried to add storage as a data store, as opposed to add as a RDM.
Good luck!

Best practices ISCSI VMK? How much per physical nic?
Hi guys,.
I have a practical question best.
I have an ISCSI unit with two controllers. Each controller has two ports. The configuration is the following:
A: controller
P1: 192.168.7.1/24
P2: 192.168.8.1/24
Controller b:
P1: 192.168.7.2/24
P2: 192.168.8.2/24
Each controller is connected to two switches. P1-> P2-> SW2, SW1.
Each server has two network adapters, dedicated to ISCSI traffic. The question is: VMKs how do I run a physical NIC? One? Or two?
I've set up so be it, but I'm not sure how it should be done. Currently, all guests have a VMK by NIC my argument is despite VMKs how I, the flow is still limited to 1 GB/s per port of the server (unity of ISCSI is 10 Gbps per port).
Option 1:
Server A:
- MI 3
- VMK1: 192.168.7.20/24
- VMK2: 192.168.8.20/24
- NIC4:
- VMK3: 192.168.7.21/24
- VMK4: 192.168.8.21/24
Option 2:
Server A:
- NIC3:
- VMK1: 192.168.7.20/24
- NIC4:
- VMK2: 192.168.8.20/24
Is it not wise to have a physical NETWORK card with two VMKs? I'm not sure if two VMKs physical NIC is "good" because it could lead to performance?
TIA!
A VMK by NIC is the supported configuration. If you do differently, you may not be able to properly configure the iSCSI.

The activations of Win 98 SE how much per disc am I allowed
Hello. It's actually on Win 98 SE and BACK. I'm in a forensics of computer science course where we have to use Win 98 SE. I recently bought a new copy on eBay and install the OS temporary on a laptop until I get my built office. Can you tell me how many installations, I will be able to perform using the original disk (has never been activated - original shrink film)? I will initially use it on your laptop and will finally at a desktop computer I have 2 or 3 activations per disk? Thank you. ~ scribe
AFAIR it IS no "activation" in Windows 98 - the first version to have XP activation.
However, the license for Windows 98 is the same that all versions - one a key only installation. As long as it is a copy retail license allows you to install as many times as you want as long as it's installed onoly once at any given time.

ESXi 5: how vCpu per vm instead of 32?
Hello
We would like to migrate our server ESX 4 to version 5 (business and license).
I know, pdf max configuration, we can have the max 32 vcpus per vm... But that is all the options available?
In ESX 4, we can we 1,2,3,4,5,6,7 and 8 vcpu... but on ESXi 5?
Thanks in advance
I believe you can - but since you have only 32 logical processors (2 x 8 cores x 2 HT) I wouldn't recommend it - by stacking the vCPUs you run a high risk of CPU contention - I usually make you that number of LCPUs is double, the largest number of vCPUs in a VM.

How can I server rediscover a device?
Can someone tell me how to add a platform with auto-detection?
I took off a platfrom from Headquarters, arrested the agent service and uninstalled service with the command - u. After that, I deleted the directory of the agent platform and considered it was 'clean '.
I copied the folder for the agent to the platform in question and ran hq - agent.exe in a CMD window but this time I have not any negotiation token or anything, he just said that the agent was running... I guess he still had information platforms.
How to take a platform that was previously followed by the AC and have it auto discover it all on this server and start to watch it again?
Thank you
JoshHi Josh,.
The former agent that you copied on the platform still has a data directory? If, so it requires no connection parameter.

How to configure server DHCP of VMware Server 2 to play nice on my network?
I have 8 physical systems running on a network.
A system running VMware Server 2 on it.
Server DHCP of Server2 provides virtual machines with IPs on the 192.168.106 network and they all work fine, all virtual machines find each other and physical systems too.
My wireless router is a DHCP server which provides boxes of physical IPs on the 192.168.2 network and works very well between physical systems.
The problem occurs when a physical systems trying to access a virtual machine.
All virtual machines are set to run in NAT mode, I tried no succcess one either bridged mode.
The VMs system static IPs on the 192.168.2 network also fails miserably as all of my attempts to set masks subnet on all systems.
I think I need to 'fix' the VMware Server 2 DHCP server, but have not yet find data on this topic, and I'm not sure that if I do this will help.
Any solution here would be FANTASTIC.
Past esxi was not really going to do this I feel even if you have not installed - it is really intended for high-end package rather than SATA based servers while sort will work on some.
Their reason to exceed the NAT is filled? If you want to that virtual machines at all simply appear as regular machines on your existing subnet then packed is the easiest way to go because virtual machines must be able to obtain their IP addresses of your router, as well as physical boxes. DHCP server 2.0 is just for the NAT and host only networking that it manages-for machines virtual NAT, you must configure the port forwarding on the host server 2.0 for all the traffic you want to enter in the virtual machines from the outside since by default, all incoming ports are blocked, appropriately with NAT, see Chapter 11 of the user guide - http://www.vmware.com/pdf/vmserver2.pdf
So, if you want to go to bridge, we need to understand why this does not work as it should be "out of the box" as long as there is no any firewall host or other security software, for example the clients VPN, which will block traffic. What is the host operating system? Please post ipconfig/all or ifconfig - an output of the host and the guest. How have you configured in bridge network - using the default settings? Virtual machines get an IP address from your router?

Hi, I created a java project that util classes. I need to use the HttpSevlet API. Then I tried to add libraries of weblogic. But it says "Weblogic system libraries cannot be used with projects that target a Weblogic Server runtime". Then I click on the server, but it is empty. How can I make in the performance of Weblogic Server? I know that I've had the same project was imported fine. I want to just create a new project from scratch and take the source since the imported project. I noticed that there is an entry Oracle Weblogic Portal Server in the imported project. But when I add it, it shows error: Oracle Weblogic Server Runtime on project No.... Thank you!
Although there is a way to transform a Java project ordinary into something that you can deploy on WLS, for a new user, I would recommend from scratch by creating a utility project instead (search utility in the new project dialog box). This project wizard will create a Java project with additional metadata to be targeted WLS. The utility Project Wizard will help you create WLS runtime on the first page of the wizard. Once you have a utility created project, you can move your existing Java classes.
Hope that helps.

How the Network Server 2003 Active Directory, DNS, DHCP with other virtual machines
Hi ~
I am trying to create a network within the workstation test environment. I did research on everyday and can't find a direct answer. I want to do is use the Server 2003 functions and create my own private network with the 2 other VMS XP Active Directory domain controller. I want both of these XP machines to be able to log into the domain of the 2003 server. I have never used or learned 2003 server, that's why I do this.
What do I need to create a custom network? can I use bridged, host-only, nat? Stop the service DHCP from Vmware workstation?
What is your host operating system and how to get its IP address? What is the result of: ipconfig/all in Windows or Linux ifconfig-a?
Disable the firewall during installation.
I don't think that the network connection is all that matters (if you care on the internet or a local area network LAN) for guests, while they are the same. I always use filled but the only thing that really counts, IMHO, is that the host, guests of the XP and W2003 prompt are all on the same subnet and the server has a static IP address.
I almost always use open for all guests. I put all the guests for static IP addresses on the same subnet as the host. I put the DNS server for XP clients to the IP address of the host to W2003. I have install the DNS role on W2003 server and then install the role of domain controller (AD), with the help of a domain name like lousdomain.local. Then you should be able to join XP guests to this area.
It's all exactly the same as if it was real machines.
My default installation is filled with the IP host is defined on 10.0.3.5, a gateway of 10.0.3.1 (my ADSL router), my server W2003 (or W2008) the 10.0.3.4 value and guests XP, the value to something like 10.0.3.6, 10.0.3.7 etc. Again, once again, is not the same as little care as long as they are on the same subnet.
What are the errors you get when you try to set up?
What you get from ipconfig/all on each of the guests?
