How Lightroom handles images with a color profile in fact?

Since the relevant help page:

Lightroom simplifies color management by displaying colors using the device independent color spaces. This means that all you need to do before working in Lightroom is to calibrate your monitor. Then, when you're in Lightroom, choose color or color profiles settings when you are ready to output your photos. (In Lightroom color management )

So. What actually happens? If a picture has, say, a Nikon sRGB profile not LightRoom it converted Adobe RGB (for the library module) and ProPhoto RGB for module progress? This seems to be the implication of the documentation, but it says nothing about a conversion.

Basically, my question is - it recognizes the supplied profile?

While SHIPS go as you seem to say that indeed there is no color profile. Lightroom is just reads the raw data and assigns the ProPhotoRGB profile? There is no conversion. Values in only digital pixels?

Right, there is no color profile. But something must be used to interpret the NAVE while converting from a raw file (just a bunch of values of levels of grey) typical, to become a recognizable RGB image. Read the digital pixel values is not enough without some sort of reference, and an ICC profile does not work on a raw file, so what happens is:

Lightroom processes the raw numbers thanks to Adobe by default camera profile for your Nikon camera model. A profile of the camera is not the same as an ICC profile. This camera profile determines the initial appearance and the colors of an image raw before other development parameters are changed, so if you don't like the default look, you can choose a different camera (if available) profile or create your own. You can change the profile of the camera in the tab Calibration of the camera at the bottom of the right side of the develop module. Adobe camera profiles produce a look that is close, but not exactly what you would get showing the NEF in Nikon software or the raw file JPEG preview.

After this initial conversion based on the camera profile, Lightroom will apply other settings default development module. In Lightroom, the result of this exists in the built-in color space Lightroom (ProPhoto RGB with curve of tone as sRGB) and then, finally, you see the end result through your (if all goes well to date) display the ICC profile.

Thus, how your look of naves in Lightroom before editing it is affected by camera Adobe profile + default develop settings.

  • How to create a camera profile that works with a JPG image with my color chart to check inside? [was: color Checker chart.] Really need help]

    I got a color chart to check. It came not with any software whatsoever. I shoot my images in JPG format. I know it's not really ideal but I'm on a tight budget and don't have the money for a digital SLR cameras that shoot raw. Is there anyway that I can always create a camera profile that works with a JPG image with my color chart to check inside? My table also includes RGB values below each color. Maybe I can match each color in the photo these values manually? If so how is this done?

    Thank you

    Bryce

    I've never seen software that does what you ask for JPGs, only RAWs.  The main problem is that any profile or adjustment is calculated according a JPG of a particular chart photo would apply to the other JPG photos with the same white balance.

    Jpg does not use "camera profiles" anyway in Lightroom, the profile is always integrated.

    There is a product that allows to calculate the HSL cursor offset values given a JPG photo their own table owner who looked like a color checker, but had two lines reversed so the software could not be used with a standard-checker color, unfortunately.  Now their table has twice as many patches (48), and looking at it on their site I'm not too sure that it does not always work with JPGs or if she's just raw files, now.

    The graphic and software are called SpyderCheckr of Datacolor.  There are various software that do different things, but none are using a ColorChecker, so having one is mainly a loss until you get a camera that can take raw photos, so keep a humidity and temperature controlled environment as much as possible until you have the right camera.  You can probably use the grey patches to adjust exposure, but that's all.

    Today you need not a digital SLR to have raw photos, well.  My phone Galaxy S6 with the last update of Marshmallow and the software of camera update will take photos in format raw DNG in Pro mode which I can create custom profiles camera to use a ColorChecker, although the camera is really good in itself, so when I found everything first he could make DNG I took a little but now, I usually just use the camera to make the jpg unless the shot is really important and the lighting is not too hard.  I think that S7 phone's camera is even better.

    What kind of camera do you have?  Sometimes, there are firmware hacks that allow the camera to shoot raw format even if the standard camera cannot.

  • Adobe RGB 1998 Workspace vs Image with embedded sRGB profile

    I worked through countless published on the Web about various aspects of the profile settings of colors from all different angles. Obviously a difficult topic depending on how much you must understand.  For now, I have a question of several party who I would appreciate any feedback on of those in the know.  I'll try to summarize it briefly - it is simply in the default RGB color space setting in CS6 against opening an image that has a different embedded color profile.

    Question

    (1) is it interesting 'potential' to work in color space Adobe RGB 1998 if I open an image with an embedded sRGB profile and "preserve embedded profile?  I realize that any potential benefit could depend on the range of colors in the image itself - that is, where an image with color dull or limited range could not affected by any color profile or workspace is applicable.

    (2) if my color default RGB in CS6 space is Adobe RGB 1998 and I open an image with an embedded sRGB profile, can I convert to Adobe RGB to take advantage of the widest range when working with the image.

    (3) if I don't need to convert an Adobe RGB sRGB image to enjoy the widest range when changes but must register the image with an sRGB profile for purposes of production (out of print or Web presentation service):

    3.1 should I make a copy of the image final and Convert to sRGB or I can just save as Jpeg and select sRGB for the profile to be integrated?

    3.2 irrespective of how I save the final image with an sRGB profile, I would lose some advantage I might have seen while working in the Adobe RGB workspace?

    I am not questioning if there is a good reason to work in sRGB vs. Adobe RGB (or ProPhoto) or under what circumstances it can matter - just trying to figure out a couple of mechanics I would work in Adobe RGB, but have a lot of things (slide previous scans etc.) than sRGB or some other built-in profile.

    Also not to query the best camera settings as I am completely convinced the only way to go is to capture in RAW if the goal is a flexibility to work with the picture (I'm still shooting Fujifilm Provia 100F in my Nikon F6 but eventually will go with a good FX digital SLR when I can rotate - point being that all of the images that I work with is roughly slides scanned on my Nikon Super) COOLSCAN 5000 ED Scanner).

    I understand that it is a topical subject (sRGB vs RGB etc.) and not trying to stimulate a wide debate on the issues.

    Thanks for any thoughts you may have on this topic.

    p.s. Here is a comparison of an image of the test case of 14 CS6 Adobe class-in-a-book.  "Rev00" on the left is the original image to sRGB included with the tutorial; "Rev01' on the right is the picture where I have first of all"affected"the Adobe RGB profile, and then (through ignorance, maybe, converted - profile Adobe RGB). I did that because I noticed that I simply convert RGB perceptual colors remain the same, so that if I have 'assign' RGB profile, I certainly get a slight pop at this image - may not be noticeable in this screenshot, but I can definitely see an improvement that I love watching them side by side on my Apple LED Cinema display 27 ".

    Screen Shot 2016-05-21 at 3.43.30 PM.png

    That is right. If the file has embedded sRGB, Adobe RGB workspace is unnecessary and irrelevant. He never comes into play.

    You can, however, convert the file in Adobe RGB if you plan to make a big change on that, and you think you might need the extra margin of a larger color space.

    If you assign a profile (for an untagged document), there is not need to convert to the same.

  • How to find images with sidecar files

    Screen Shot 2013-01-06 at 9.02.29 PM.pngI just noticed that I have some images, jpg and tiff, who seem to have the SIDECAR FILES on the display of metadata EXFIPTC.

    These files have a lot of dates, some more than 20 years and shot on film and scanned on the nikon slide scanner. In fact, the images in question were EVER raw files...

    I don't remember how I did it. I used LR early on and so I'm sure that at some point I checked the wrong box.

    I can't find those who have sidecar files by performing a search, even using ANY plug-in FILTER (although I am not sure that I used it correctly).

    I find these sidecar files?  There may be some clues as to why they are there.

    Thank you

    Vince

    I added a sentence pointing out that these files were raw file nevers.

    When I wrote my answer your screenshot was not visible. Now that I see I agree that your question is about another kind of sidecar files.

    When shooting Raw and JPG with your camera you have the option of

    (a) treat JPGs as separate photos.

    (b) treat as file for Raw files.

    You specify this option in > Preferences > general tab.

    When you select this option to process files Next To Raw files as separate JPEG JPEG Photos are imported as stand-alone photo. The raw and JPEG files are visible and editable in Lightroom.
    If deselected, treated Lightroom JPEG doubles as a file and see the raw file and the raw + jpgfile extension.

    PS: Your screenshot shows a jpg file. If this isn't an xmp file. This means that the photo of your screenshot must have been shot asa Raw + JPG file.

  • Display of images with a color cast

    I have a problem with the images displayed with a cast on some sites of color (including Facebook and I agree with the image library (I'm a pro photographer).) This does not happen with explore.
    I did screen grabs two browsers and paste into a single document to:

    where you can see the difference.
    This is one of my images, and I actually copied the page when it displays on the website www.photographersdirect.com , but I saw it happen with pictures of other people.
    Curiously, it seems not to happen with each photo.
    Have you any suggestions, please. If this continues, I'm going to have to explore or else, like the colors of the image is really important to me.

    The pref gfx.color_management.enabled is no longer used (you get redirected)

    Don't forget to use the gfx.color_management.mode pref rather (value of 0 disables color management).

    You can try setting the pref gfx.color_management.enablev4 true on the subject: config page and to close and restart Firefox to allow ICC V4 based on Firefox 8 +, but this feature is not yet fully implemented, then there may be problems in some cases.

  • How to create images with accents of glitter animation in Photoshop cs6?

    I'm new to photoshop; using paint shop pro 9 for years, however I wanted to accelerate my game to new levels with my creativity.

    I'm also autistic, and while I learn relatively fast, I learn better at a much faster pace through visuals with verbal instructions

    I have've always wanted to learn how to add glitter to text and images as accents. I found a great video on adding glitter animation to text, but I was wondering how I would go about adding accents of glitter to pictures for the pop and give them more life that is unique and special in a way that is easy for me to kiss?

    If anyone has a video tutorial that is clear and concise through each step of the process that you want to share with me, that would be great.

    YouTube has been cut in and out a lot, make my browsers crash so if you have another medium I can look (and even possibly download the tutorial on my desk) for easy access, it would be even better

  • How to load images with a delay?

    Let's say I have a JSON from an HTTP request. The JSON contains several JPG and text links.

    For each JPG link and text, I want that they be displayed in a field like that.

    And here is the code in the field:

    public ProductField extends Field {

        String text;
        Bitmap bmp

        public CustomField(String text, String imageURL){
            bmp = Bitmap.getBitmapResource("blank.png");
        }

        public void paint(Graphics g){
            //....
        }

        public void updateBitmap(String url){
            bitmap = BitmapUtil.loadBitmapFromURL(url);

            // draw the bitmap on XYRect
            dest = new XYRect(0, 0, bitmap.getWidth(), bitmap.getHeight());
            invalidate();
        }
    }

    I realize that load images takes time, so I don't load them immediately. I have only to load the text and display an empty bitmap in the bitmap field. The actual bitmap will be charged when the updateBitmap() method is called.

    And here's how to add these field on the screen (not a 100% valid code, but I hope you will illustrate the idea)

    VerticalFieldManager vfm = new VerticalFieldManager

    // an array of bitmap URLS, which will be loaded later
    final String[] urls = new String[json_array_size];

    for (int x = 0; x < json_array.size; x++){
        CustomField field = new CustomField(..);

        // store bitmap URLs in array
        urls[x] = json_array.getJSONObject(x).getString("url");
        vfm.add(field);
        vfm.add(new SeparatorField());
    }

    Thread t = new Thread( new Runnable() {
        public void run() {
            for(int i = 0; i < len;i += 2) {
                synchronized(UiApplication.getEventLock()) {
                    CustomField cf = (CustomField) vfm.getField(i);
                    cf.updateBitmap(urls[i]);
               }
                try{
                    Thread.sleep(2000);
                }
                catch(Exception e){ }
                }
            }
    });

    Seems that all the images are loaded simultaneously. What I want is something like:

    display bitmap #1-2 seconds of delay - display bitmap #2 - delay 2 sec - display bitmap #3 - delay 2 sec etc..

    How to solve this problem?

    You can remove the block synchronized as you don't make any changes to the user interface, you read a value of a UI element.
