  (1) what have you set to "use push if available.

  (2) how exactly the GMail is integrated? EAS? IMAP? POP?

  If the answer to article 1 is Yes, AND you have integrated such as IMAP of GMail, the time interval setting is ignored.   Problem of three steps:
