How 'permanently' to close a tab (i.e., so he opens again when I re - open Firefox)?

I pinned tabs (move the mouse over the tab, right click, select 'Pin as App tab'), but the original open tabs when I re - open Firefox (Ff), for example, I had Facebook open in a tab... I pinned it as a tab App... Size tab is reduced about one outright and moves to the left with the other tabs pinned... when I subsequently re - open Ff, after having disconnected from the network, the pinned Facebook tab is there (it's good), but it's the previous 'normal' Facebook tab (that's annoying). These "redundant" tabs exist for G +, Facebook, iCloud and another site.

This situation has led to my question. THX,-Greg.

First, the version of Firefox you are using is very old and out dated, with several known security holes. I ask that you update to 11 of Firefox to make sure you have not only the fastest Firefox, but also the safest.

Now, as for your question, you want to have your application tabs, but not no matter what other tabs when you start Firefox, correct? If you click on tools, then Options, what is selected for "When Firefox starts"? What is "show my windows and tabs from last time"? If so, you should be able to just show your homepage, set your homepage to wanted something and then, if your app tabs are open, be good to go.

I have a bad habit of having several tabs open. If I click on a link that translates the whole browser becomes unresponsive, how do I close the tab offending rather than having to close the entire browser and losing all my tabs?

It is not a bad habit, it's normal.

Unfortunately, there is currently no way to 'kill' a single tab without picking up Firefox.

A few times a week I get "not responding" when I exceed the amount of memory Firefox can use. Usually about 60-90 seconds, I can close Firefox by using the menu, either:

    • "3-bar" menu button > button "power".
    • (menu bar) File > Exit
    • These same keys in order:Alt f x

Since the Flash plugin can also cause this problem and it is used everywhere around the web, I suggest the following to minimize potential problems with Flash in your troubleshooting:

    (1) to avoid unnecessary pain on the sites where the Flash is not really essential, try to set the Flash on Click-to-Play (Ask 'activation'). This will delay the Flash start on a page, until you approve.

To set 'Ask to activate', open the page modules using either:

    • CTRL + SHIFT + a
    • "3-bar" menu button (or tools) > Add-ons

In the left column, click on Plugins. Search 'Shockwave Flash' and always change 'enable' to 'ask to activate '.

With this setting, when you visit a site that wants to use the Flash, you should see a notification icon in the address bar and usually (but not always) one of the following values: a link in a gray rectangle dark in the page or an information bar sliding between the toolbar and in the page area.

The plugin notification in the address bar icon usually resembles a little Lego block, dark gray. (If it is red, Flash must update.)

The delay in the activation of Flash can help distinguish between the problems caused on the initial page load, put in folds and script activation vs Flash/loading bar.

If you see a good reason to use Flash, and the site looks trustworthy, you can go ahead and click on the notification icon in the address bar to allow Flash. You can trust the site for the time being or permanently.

But some pages use Flash only for tracking or play ads, so if you do not see an immediate need for Flash, feel free to ignore the notification! He will just stand here in case you want to use it later.

    (2) a common cause of errors in script does not work in Windows Vista and later is the feature of mode of the Flash player plugin. This feature has the security benefits, but it seems to have serious compatibility problems on some systems. You can disable it using the page modules. Either:

    • CTRL + SHIFT + a
    • "3-bar" menu button (or tools) > Add-ons

In the left column, click on Plugins. On the right side, find 'Shockwave Flash' and click on the link for more. Then uncheck the box for "Enable Adobe Flash protected mode" and try it for a day to see if that helps you.

  • How can I get the tabs to go on a single line and a menu of Firefox?

Firefox allows to have 2 lines above - Firefox menu with tabs and more and another line of the navigation toolbar. during the installation of some programs online, Firefox now have 3 lines at the top, with the Firefox menu on an entire line, the 2nd line of tabs and 3rd line of navigation toolbar. How can I get the tabs to go on a single line and a menu of Firefox?

With the current versions of Firefox, you can choose to use the menu of Firefox (orange in windows; gray Linux) button at the left end of the Windows title bar or bar menus familiar as in earlier versions. The Firefox button is displayed by default only in Windows Vista and Windows 7, but you can turn on or off or switch between the two or temporarily show the menu bar when the Firefox button is displayed.

If you chose to use the Firefox button and you use the default tabs on top, the tab bar will move to the title bar with the Firefox button only when you are to maximize window (the ' square' the middle button in the upper right corner of the Windows standard application window). Other selected toolbars will be displayed below that (bar Navigation, Bookmarks Toolbar and the toolbars you add via Add - ons).

Hi wtpl62, I agree that Ctrl + w is easier.

The 'x' may not appear on background tabs (inactive tabs) If you have a lot of tabs open in the window so that they are crushed down tight as they stop. This is to ensure that you can see as many as possible on the tab page title.

If you want to experiment with the 'x' there is a hidden parameter. Here's how to play:

    (1) in a new tab, type or paste Subject: config in the address bar and press ENTER. Click on the button promising to be careful.

    (2) in the search above the list box, type or paste close and make a pause so that the list is filtered

  • After updating firefox 31: whenever I got close a tab, instead of closing, it opens a new tab to the right

Just updated Firefox to update from 28 to 31. Now, every time I close a tab (by clicking the x to the right of the current tab), rather than close this tab, it opens another tab just to the right of the tab I'm closing. Subsequent attempts produce the same result... with a series of new tabs, building to the right of the current tab with every click. Only way to close the tabs must leave and then re - open Firefox, but the problem continues as before.

Until I can find a solution for this, I want to go back to 28 - is this possible and if so, how?

    TIA

Update: Firefox updated itself, it only is complaint not on the current versions of the Add - ons installed.

On a whim, I went to Tools/Add-ons and noticed that one point, Tab Mix Plus, indicated that there is an update available. Once this update has been installed and restarted FF, the problem no longer existed.

Problem solved by installing the 0.4.1.4 TMP!

NOTE: Maybe the FF 31.0 update process should be amended to flag Tab Mix Plus versions prior to 0.4.1.4 when it verifies the compatibility of the add-on.
