How to add a physical DVD to be used with a virtual machine?

Add Virtual Machine Hardware Settings > hard drive > use a physical disk (for advanced users)

He is not present to do the same for the addition of a CD/DVD drive. Is it possible to do this to CD/DVD using the .vmx file or another way!

Hello

Hmm... I see that you are the person who has earlier posted on attempts to seek support for trying to create a virtual machine that is able to recover from broken CD/DVD.

I'm sorry, but personally I don't think that virtual machines are the best match for this.

If you want physical access to a CD/DVD drive then you can try to use an external USB CD/DVD drive and that connect directly to the virtual machine, but I don't think that you can configure a Raw Device Mapping (RDM) for a CD/DVD drive. I could be wrong on that though.

    Just watched this.

The vmreconfig.pl script does not handle the case of a device not defined in the VirtualIDEController object array.

Look like the real device table is not defined until an IDE device is actually connected (or when a new IDE device is added).  I'm not 100% sure of what generates the actual peripheral table off the coast of the VirtualIDEController, but the case of a table of undefined device should be handled in the script to reconfigure.

I can see the two solutions here, first write a custom script that adds the CDROM and manages this one-off case.  Then, modify the vmreconfig.pl script to handle this particular case of a painting of the disconnected device.

In VMUtil.pm, you will find line number 929:

    My = $unitNumber $# {$controller-> device} + 1;

    This is to change:

    My = $unitNumber (set $controller-> device)? $# {$controller-> device} + 1:0;

There may be other cases in the VMUtil.pm module that needs to be updated as well.  For this reason, it may be better to just write your own custom tool.  However, the simple correction above may let you go ahead with your project in the short term.

  • How to add a row in a computer using New-disk virtual hard?

    Hello

I am running powercli 5.0.1 build 581491 and I'm writing a powercli script for:

    (1) create a RDM

    (2) assign the RDM to VM1

    (3) assign the same RDM to VM2

I am able to create the ROW and assign it to VM1, but I am unable to use "New drive" assign to VM2.  Using the following command, I am able to create the ROW and assign it to VM1.

    New-disk-hard - VM VM1 DiskType - RawVirtual /vmfs/devices/disks/naa.60000970000192603729533030353531 - DeviceName

While trying to assign to VM2, I do the following:

    New-harddisk - VM, VM2 - DiskPath ' [san - datastore:1] vm1/vm1_1.vmdk.

And I get the following error:

New-hard drive: 06/06/2012 14:13:19 new-support device Incompatible hard disk specified for the device '0'.

What I realized, is that if I create a regular vmdk file, then use the New drive using the '-DiskPath ' option, then the command works well.  So my question is, what is the command to add a ROW in a virtual machine?

    Thanks in advance.

No, indeed it seems something wrong with the cmdlet New-disk hard when adding shared RDMs.

I have the following, which assigns the RDM common to both virtual machines.

It's more or less the same, what you've seen in Onyx, but it adds the RDM shared for two virtual machines.

    $vm1 = Get-VM -Name VM1 $vm2 = Get-VM -Name VM2
    $DeviceName = "/vmfs/devices/disks/naa.600507680180701ed00000000000124"

    $hd1 = New-HardDisk -VM $vm1 -DeviceName $DeviceName -DiskType RawVirtual $ctrl1 = New-ScsiController -HardDisk $hd -BusSharingMode Virtual -Type VirtualLsiLogicSAS
    $spec = New-Object VMware.Vim.VirtualMachineConfigSpec
    $spec.DeviceChange += New-Object VMware.Vim.VirtualDeviceConfigSpec $spec.deviceChange[0].device += $ctrl1.ExtensionData $spec.deviceChange[0].device.Key = -101$spec.deviceChange[0].operation = "add"
    $spec.DeviceChange += New-Object VMware.Vim.VirtualDeviceConfigSpec$spec.deviceChange[1].device += $hd1.ExtensionData$spec.deviceChange[1].device.Key = -102$spec.deviceChange[1].device.ControllerKey = -101$spec.deviceChange[1].operation = "add"

    $vm2.ExtensionData.ReconfigVM($spec)

  • How the Network Server 2003 Active Directory, DNS, DHCP with other virtual machines

    Hi ~

I am trying to create a network within the workstation test environment. I did research on everyday and can't find a direct answer. I want to do is use the Server 2003 functions and create my own private network with the 2 other VMS XP Active Directory domain controller. I want both of these XP machines to be able to log into the domain of the 2003 server. I have never used or learned 2003 server, that's why I do this.

What do I need to create a custom network? can I use bridged, host-only, nat? Stop the service DHCP from Vmware workstation?

What is your host operating system and how to get its IP address? What is the result of: ipconfig/all in Windows or Linux ifconfig-a?

    Disable the firewall during installation.

I don't think that the network connection is all that matters (if you care on the internet or a local area network LAN) for guests, while they are the same. I always use filled but the only thing that really counts, IMHO, is that the host, guests of the XP and W2003 prompt are all on the same subnet and the server has a static IP address.

I almost always use open for all guests. I put all the guests for static IP addresses on the same subnet as the host. I put the DNS server for XP clients to the IP address of the host to W2003. I have install the DNS role on W2003 server and then install the role of domain controller (AD), with the help of a domain name like lousdomain.local. Then you should be able to join XP guests to this area.

It's all exactly the same as if it was real machines.

My default installation is filled with the IP host is defined on 10.0.3.5, a gateway of 10.0.3.1 (my ADSL router), my server W2003 (or W2008) the 10.0.3.4 value and guests XP, the value to something like 10.0.3.6, 10.0.3.7 etc. Again, once again, is not the same as little care as long as they are on the same subnet.

What are the errors you get when you try to set up?

What you get from ipconfig/all on each of the guests?

  • How the physical machine can communicate with the virtual machines as well as the internet should work on a virtual machine

    Hi team,

I ask that you forgive for asking a silly question without doing a free search.

I'm using VMware workstation 6.5. I am able to communicate with both machines by selecting 'only option of home. "

Is there a way by which the physical machine can communicate with the virtual machines.

At the same time through the VMS, is it possible to access the Internet from the physical amchine.

    Help, please.

    Concerning

    Sriapti

When you use a bridged vNIC the customer acts as any other host, so that you can access is by his IP (or name if a DNS configuration exists as you acceding to any other host.) What tools you can use depends on the guest operating system and the software available.

I assume you mean access deskopt. Then you can use RDP (Windows Terminal services) or VNC (tight/tiny).

For Linux, you can use this last or all the flavors of SSH. In the case of Linux, I use VNC through SSH tunnel. You can also tunnel X through SSH, so if you have an X server on another host (such as the Hummingbird for Windows), you can open your own office remotely there.

  • How to get count of vDisks in use by a virtual machine?

    Hello

I'm poking around CB looking for a measurememt of how many virtual disks are in use by a virtual machine.  I notice that the collector of data store is set to always run (- 1).  I could get this information by counting the number from VM_FILE vmdk files?  It seems that VC datastore entities map to the entity of the hierarchy on the side of CB, or at least they do not in my instance chargeback.

    Thank you

    Bill

    Hi Bill,

Synchronization of data store sync job up to the sight of the vCenter Server data store. Synchronization job of storage which runs every 30 minutes by default, gets the VMDK files for a virtual machine.

CB_VM_FILE is the list of files in a virtual machine. Table CB_VM_FILE_INFO gives details of each file with timestamps. You can use these tables to get the list of files used by a virtual machine at any given time.

    Kind regards

  • How to configure the CD driver on the host for a virtual machine?

After you create a virture machine and put the CD of driver on host, when powered on the vertual machine, may not start the drive form the CD only from NIC.

How to configure the CD driver on the host for a virtual machine?

Right-click on the virtual computer and go to edit settings. Click the Options tab and under the tip list, there should be Boot Options. Enter an amount of milliseconds to wait before your boot, so you can activate the CD-ROM. You can also activate the CD even if it boots to the NETWORK card option, and then reset the virtual machine. Get the focus of this virtual machine on the console session, and then press ctrl-alt-insert. Your CD-ROM will stay connected if you do not want to delay the startup process.

  • How to share a USB with a virtual machine raw device?

    Hey,.

I have a TEMPer PCSensor USB device I want to share with a virtual machine.

When he connect on my MacBook, I see it as a USB device in System Profiler as shown here:

The problem is that there is no OS X driver that is appropriate for that. So while it has detected the USB device and read data from string device, Snow Leopard is not actually load anything to support this material. This means, in my view, that he does not see merger as a USB device is valid to be shared with the virtual machine.

Does anyone know how to force the merger of share this USB without driver with the virtual machine please? The VM knows EXACTLY what to do with this device.

    Thank you

    Tom

    VCP, VCI, MBCS CITP

If System Profiler can see the USB device, it should appear in the list of devices that can be connected to a virtual machine. The only exception is if it is a HID-class, which are automatically filtered device. See USB HID the User Guide running A VMware Fusion for an explanation and a workaround.

  • How to add the physical switch/router to NSX

    Hello

I check several labs and I have a big question unanswered!

How can I add physical switch resources to NSX?

on each of the scenarios, it assumes that you have a few physical interfaces on each host, and you can assign them to a VDS.

It's good, but it was also available on old vCenter without NSX.

For example, how can I add switch 24 ports 10 gigabit Ethernet on my Brocade switch to the VMware resource pool?

    Thank you

    Javad

    You are welcome, of course.

The network virtualization is not on the ability to win, but it's rather on the use of the available capacity of more flexibly to maintain security between virtual machines without worrying about the port based firewall or port-approaches physical configurations and physics on the VLAN externally in your virtual infrastructure.

Just as the server virtualization adds capability to your server infrastructure, it allows a more flexible use of the physical capacity that is available.  You must you the capacity available to the involved hypervisors.

    See you soon!

    Hello

Look for the [ALTER TABLE | http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B28359_01/server.111/b28286/statements_3001.htm#sthref4803] command to find out how to add a column (step (1)) and a (step (3)) constraint to an existing table.

    For the step (2):

    CREATE SEQUENCE employee_id_seq
    START WITH 1
    ;

    UPDATE employee
    SET     id  = employee_id_seq.NEXTVAL;

When you create a sequence, START WITH 1 is the default value, so that the line is not really necessary above... I've included just to show how you could start with any number you have chosen.
