How to assign a VLAN to physical NIC in ESX 3.5

Hello-

I thought I knew how to do this, but I can't seem to find the screen where you can assign a VLAN to physical NICS in an ESX 3.5 Server?  Could someone please tell me where it is?

Thank you very much

Do you mean in networks:

To change the label of network and VLAN ID for a group of ports

1. connect to the VMware VI Client and select the host from the inventory Panel.

2. click on the Configuration tab, and then click Network.

3. on the right side of the screen, find the vSwitch to change, and then click Properties for the vSwitch.

4. click on the Ports tab.

5. Select the port group, and then click on edit.

6. click on the general tab.

7. change the label of network or VLAN ID , and then click OK to save the new settings.

If you found this information useful, please consider awarding points to 'Correct' or 'useful '. Thank you!

  • How to assign several VLANS in transparent PIX using command line

I need help in the awarding of two inside and two VLANS corresponding to our PIX 525 outside running code 7.06. I can't find a good link on the configs to site or sample of Cisco.

Basically, you can have only one inside and an external interface. Take a look at the following documentation:

    -Transparent Preview Mode:

    http://www.Cisco.com/en/us/products/ps6120/products_configuration_guide_chapter09186a0080450b68.html#wp1201980

«Transparent security apparatus uses an inside interface and an external interface only.» If your platform includes a dedicated management interface, you can also configure the interface of management or subinterface management only for traffic.

In simple mode, you can use two data interfaces (and if available, dedicated management interface) even if your security apparatus includes more than two interfaces. »

    I hope this helps!

  • Best practices ISCSI VMK? How much per physical nic?

    Hi guys,.

I have a practical question best.

I have an ISCSI unit with two controllers. Each controller has two ports. The configuration is the following:

    A: controller

    P1: 192.168.7.1/24

    P2: 192.168.8.1/24

    Controller b:

    P1: 192.168.7.2/24

    P2: 192.168.8.2/24

Each controller is connected to two switches. P1-> P2-> SW2, SW1.

Each server has two network adapters, dedicated to ISCSI traffic. The question is: VMKs how do I run a physical NIC? One? Or two?

I've set up so be it, but I'm not sure how it should be done. Currently, all guests have a VMK by NIC my argument is despite VMKs how I, the flow is still limited to 1 GB/s per port of the server (unity of ISCSI is 10 Gbps per port).

    Option 1:

    Server A:

    • MI 3
      • VMK1: 192.168.7.20/24
      • VMK2: 192.168.8.20/24
    • NIC4:
      • VMK3: 192.168.7.21/24
      • VMK4: 192.168.8.21/24

    Option 2:

    Server A:

    • NIC3:
      • VMK1: 192.168.7.20/24
    • NIC4:
      • VMK2: 192.168.8.20/24

Is it not wise to have a physical NETWORK card with two VMKs? I'm not sure if two VMKs physical NIC is "good" because it could lead to performance?

    TIA!

A VMK by NIC is the supported configuration. If you do differently, you may not be able to properly configure the iSCSI.

  • How can I assign some VLAN in Virtual switch?

I have ESX 4.0 installed on two IBM Blade hosts that are in a HA cluster to enable vMotion.  I have a virtual switch created on each host.  Virtual machine connect to the same switch.  I added a new virtual machine to on one VLAN separated.  I have a few "How to"... questions:

    1. How can I put the new virtual machine in an assignment of VLAN different from other virtual machines?  (I think it's through groups of ports but I always read)

    2. can I put several VLANS on the whole virtual switch? (If Yes, what is the snytax? "43; 40 "or"43, 40' or "43-40")

    3. What is the best practice for this kind of Setup?

    Thank you

    Stuart

Hello and welcome to the forums.

    1. How can I put the new virtual machine in an assignment of VLAN different from other virtual machines?  (I think it's through groups of ports but I always read)

Port groups - you're right.  Create a port group, and then assign the virtual machine this connection.

    2. can I put several VLANS on the whole virtual switch? (If Yes, what is the snytax? "43; 40 "or"43, 40' or "43-40")

Yes, you want to create a new port group for each VIRTUAL LAN required in the vSwitch.

    3. What is the best practice for this kind of Setup?

There is a lot of information around this in the Guide de Configuration ESX.

    Good luck!

  • Catch 22 - Port Trunk Configurations: how to combine identifiers VLAN native with DHCP (but allows traffic of VM)

Catch 22 - Port Network Configurations: how to combine identifiers VLAN native with DHCP (but allow the virtual computer)

I came across a Catch 22.  Maybe someone can restore the directly here.  I found a "witch hunt" for sure.

It comes with the Ports of junction on the side of the switch of the ESX host network.

    Context:

Ok. The Setup is a HP Blade C7000 enclosure.  I try to configure ports for switching to the blades.  ESX 3.5 U4 will be installed the BL460cs.  Installation is preferred method: revive unattended.  No problem with the syntax of Kick-Start,

I am here, it's the side network.

    The problem:

I find a major complication in that the switch ports must be configured for both traffic Service Console and VMkernel, more Virtual Machine since only two NICs by blade. Not best practices, but we have only two switches Cisco 3020 inside.  The two uplink physical NIC is paired in the same vSwitch.  (No iSCSI does fortunately).

So the Catch 22 question is as follows:

If the id VLAN native set up on the switch port, DHCP works of course and the VMware boot loader is able to grasp a binary / packets on the network (FTP Site) and install OK.  But after no installation, no communication with SC unless I set the VLAN id of the SC to '0 '.  The value "4" 0 does not communication, but "40" is the VLAN native.

If id configuring VLAN native retired from the Switch port, DHCP will not work and host does not have IP address during the VMware boot process.  This is as expected as traffic without label is not assigned an eligible

    VLAN, so no comms.

The Port of the Switch configuration:

    interface GigabitEthernet0/16

    SERVERNAME description

    switchport trunk encapsulation dot1q

    switchport trunk vlan native 40

    switchport trunk allowed vlan 40-254

    switchport mode trunk

    switchport nonegotiate

    Speed 1000

    No cdp enable

    spanning tree portfast trunk

    end

    Summary

OK, let's summarize where things are and if possible please attach responses to their digital identity.

    (1) is there a way to delete the VLAN tagging altogether side ESX host? Not only the id '0 '. The problem is with clearly with the VLAN native defined as "40".  If "40" IDs specified on the Group of ports for the Service Console, no joy, no comms. If the id of '0' value, capable of ping gateway and communicate on the network.

    (2) what is the problem with the definition of VLAN native as "40" when the config for the switch port is set as VLAN native "40"?  Or if it was a problem?  Both parameters clearly do not work together.

    (3) a switch receiving a unmarked frame it will assign to the VLAN Trunk native. Ok. Trunking bases and why I need a VLAN specified on the port for DHCP native work.  But it seems that since the id VLAN is set manually even as VLAN native, closed communications and no traffic as possible.

    (4) executives made tag 802. 1 q VLAN native?  I think that it is not and this could well be the problem. Since the id VLAN "40" is not labeled, but try to score the side host vSwitch port group.

Please let me know your thoughts, community and how in general, we are approaching 2 NIC ESX configurations.

When trunking multiple VLANs, you either have a default VLAN is nothing is tagged, or you don't.  That's what the vlan native to you, it defines which VLAN would be used if no tag is visible on the packets traversing the network.  For servers, if you are marking, then everything has to tag, if you're not marking at the server level, then the port must be either an access port or a VLAN native or default must be set.  I also don't keep your service console the same network as your vm.  Keep this isolated for the security of the network.  If you isolate this VLAN, you can separate and use a single IP address for installation and one for post construction.

Or, you can provide an IP address during the build.

  • Assign the Vlan of a vnic

    Hi all

I'm working on it for about 2 years in a hospital, I have most of the virtualized servers.

So two years ago, I created a server of access point for patients, running solid rock. But for precautions I virtualized vmware, machine machine have two network cards and the "output" nic is on a different IP range and Vlan that I created only for the hotspot. What can I do to assign the ID of the vlan hotspot in my eCard network of 'exit' on the virtualized machine hotspot?

IM Portuguese, so my first language not English hope, you guys can understand.

    Thanks in advance,

    Kind regards

    You have several ways to allow multiple VLANS works on ESXi\;

Method 1: Configure the interface port on the side of physical switch ' trunk/tag' mode and on vSwitch create several groups of ports and assign a VLAN to each group of ports and when the interfaces are added virtual network in VM, bind each virtual network interface to the appropriate port group.

Method 2: If you have several network interfaces physical on vSphere, ESXi, configure each interface on a physical switch port to VLAN appropriate and create a vSwitch (and a group of ports) for each VLAN and adding VM virtual network interfaces, bind each virtual network interface to the appropriate port group.

Method 1 is recommended, as it will allow you add several VLANS you need without needing additional physical network interfaces.

  • How to add a VLAN to trunk on Cisco SF200-24 port

    Hi all

I have question want to ask:

I have Cisco switch SF200-24, I want to Setup VLAN as below:

    1 to 10 of Harbour = Vlan 100

    11 to 21 Harbour = Vlan 200

    22-24 Harbour = Vlan 300

    Port GE1 = Trunking (primary)

    Port GE2 = Trunking (secondary)

How to add all the VLAN 100, 200, 300 go through primary and secondary circuits?

What port should I connect to management switch?

    Thank you

    > How to add every VLAN 100, 200, 300 go through primary and secondary circuits?

first set the ports as trunks via the "VLAN management'-> 'Settings of the Interface' - click on the corresponding port, click on the button"Edit"and select"Trunk"in the list.

Once these (GE1 and GE2) ports as trunks, you can now assign all the VLANS you want through "Management of VLAN"-> "a Port VLAN membership." Select the first port (GE1), click on "join the VLAN" and select VLAN all desired from the list on the left and put them in the list on the right.

    and you're done.

    > Which port I can connect to management switch?

the default management IP switch is part of the default VLAN1. If you want to keep access to the switch, assign "VLAN1" to one of the ports of access, or change management VLAN number other than 1 - but in this case remember to apply the correct IP settings in order to satisfy the subnet assigned to the new VIRTUAL LAN.

  • 4.1 of the ACS and 802. 1 x dynamic assignment of VLANS

    Hi guys,.

a customer wants to implement assignment of VLANs with 802 dynamics. 1 x. The customer has the following facilities, Cisco ACS 4.1 for Windows, Cisco ASA 5540, CSA 5.2 with CSA MC, several routers and Cisco switches.

Now, the questations are, we can implement assignment of vlan dynamic without a unit of the ANC and the customer also wants to decide between customers with real antivirus signatures and the old signatures. Older clients are denied access to the anti-virus server and the update of the signature and if everything is ok, to have access to the internal network.

How could implement us this without a new hardware or software?

    Any ideas? Thanks for help.

    René

You can have a look on the frame of the NAC system. If you want only the posture validate cable customers then there no extra components to buy. If you want to go wireless, you will likely need to buy a Cisco client that supports wireless. You can get the configuration from here guide:

    http://www.Cisco.com/application/PDF/en/us/guest/NetSol/ns617/c649/cdccont_0900aecd8040bbd8.PDF

I suggest you prototype and see what you think, the good thing is that you can deploy on a per switchport basis so you can make the installer on ACS without disturbing what is there already and apply it by configuring the switch.

  • Dynamic assignment of VLANS / SSID using the IAS 4402/MS

    Greetings,

In short, we have a WLC4402 (50 AP license) and about 30 1252 s towers in place. At the moment we have three VLANS / SSID in place - one for admin, to teachers and students. The WLC uses a server for MS Windows 2003 running IAS for PEAP authentication. Windows XP, the SSID clients entered manually based on "prior designation" 'type' laptop (admin, teacher or student).

It works very well. However more frequently our users were 'sharing' portable computers so a student can need to use his laptop computer and vice versa. In short, we would like to use the dynamic assignment of VLANS / SSID as well as if a student has the teacher, 'students' laptop VLAN / SSID would receive them when connect (and apply the appropriate ACL, QoS policies, etc.)

We have found the documents on how to do that with a CBS, but is there something available for this configuration with a MS IAS server.

All entry information would be greatly appreciated.

    Joe

The installer works fine with the Server IAS Ms. You must set the options for RADIUS (3 of them) which are documented in the ACS similar article of the same ilk. You can have one SSID, using RADIUS authentication and have the Active Directory to determine the membership to a vlan based on the group.

    The RADIUS attribute parameters are

    Tunnel-Type = Vlan

    Tunnel-Pvt-Group-ID = vlanid

    Tunnel-Medium-Type = 802

    I also like to set

    Ignore-User-Dialin-Properties = True

You must create some policies in IAS to match your windows groups and set the id vlan correct. A separate policy of IAS by vlan.

Set the attributes RADIUS by political IAS and ad group or however you plan on the determination of the membership.

If you want to use RADIUS for administration, you must also define a separate policy that defines the RADIUS of the Service Type administrative = attribute

It recognizes the attributes 64 and 65, but the Tunnel-private-group-id, which contains the actual number of VLAN is not supported. How can I assign the vlan OK if this attribute is not taken in charge? Does not work with a string corresponding to the name VLAN on the switch either.

    The version is 12.2.55SE10 3750G.

    Hello

Since him debugs if I see that you are missing an attribute to make the assignment of VLANs, in your test it just to send the following items:

    * 1 mar 00:12:53: RADIUS: Tunnel-Type [64] 01: VLAN 6 [13]

    * 1 mar 00:12:53: RADIUS: Tunnel-Medium-Type [65] 6 01:ALL_802 [6]

But it would be appropriate to send:

    • Tunnel-Type = 64 = VLAN

    • Tunnel-Medium-Type = 802

    • Tunnel-private-Group-ID = 253

When the "Tunnel-private-Group-ID" is the number/name of vlan to be awarded, the bellows is an example on what it would look like on the profile of the ACS:

  • How to create the VLANS on Cisco PIX 6.3?

    Hello

How to create a vlan on pix - 6.3? I'm a little confused.

How can I assign one side of the internet with several (not secondary IP address) ip address for each & every vlan?

How I connected to the switch, I mean if I put "switch trunk mode port" on the side of the switch, what command should I I need on the PIX 'inside' interface? in the router, the command is "encapsulation dot1Q 1.

also there are restrictions which limited only VLANS can be created or is it unlimited?

    Hello

When you configure your interface, usually do you it like this

    interface ethernet0 car

    Auto interface ethernet1

Ethernet1 is a trunk with a vlan 2 and one vlan native, you must add to your config:

    logical interface ethernet1 vlan100

    logical interface ethernet1 vlan200

After that, you must name these interfaces and define the level of security.

    ethernet0 nameif outside security0

    nameif ethernet1 inside the security100

    nameif V200 interieure4 vlan200

    nameif vlan100 V100 securite6

This configuration will give you an interface (eth1) with 1 vlan (inside) 2 and native vlan tagged (v200 and v100)

PIX won't negotiate a trunk, your switch configuration is correct.

  • Assigning different ip addresses to NIC in ESXi 6.0.0

Hello everyone, I have associated vSwitch0 with 1 physical nic failure. The network is 10.0.0.0/23 with gateway 10.0.1.10 and I have Virtual Machines on this subnet perfect running.

Now, I would like to connect a virtual machine to a different subnet. So I added a second vSwitch1 with a second associated physical nic (which is online and connected). The network is 10.115.110.0/23 with gateway 10.115.110.10.

Its not working, I was thinking maybe I need to add a static route, but it is for the network of the Service Console only.

Is it not possible? the virtual machine has no network connection, what could I do?

I also added two network adapters on the virtual machine, and the default value works well, but what I can do to make it work the second? or is it not possible that the range of ip addresses is in a different subnet?

    Thank you!

First, you must create a VMkernel interface on the new switch to your VMS achieve different networks and there is no need to create static routes. What you need to do is to create the new virtual switch using the connected to the new subnet vmnic, create a new group of port within this new vSwitch and create the virtual machine with virtual network adapter binding to this new group of port.

Note, this isn't the best approach, my recommendation is to use a VLAN to segment your subnets, in any case this design will work.
