How to change the owner of the homegroup in Win 7?
Hi all
Homegroup on my home network is owned by a PC that is no longer present. (It was left accidentally on the roof of my car before a trip on the highway.) Now I would like to change the owner of the residential group to a PC, I still have.
I have found no way to do this via the GUI Win 7 Pro. So I searched the registry for the name of the lost computer instances.

It appears that the locations containing the trio owner, OwnerID, and OwnerMachineName are where the homegroup Control Panel gets its information on the existing homegroup. Other sites simply include the name of the computer as a member of the residential group, one of the peers. I tried to delete the key containing the name of the computer, but was prevented from doing: "error while deleting key." Could possibly pass the key owner to me or admins, but now wonder if there is a better way to do this. So I would like to change the owner of the homegroup, or erase any trace of an existing residential group then computers have to analyze the current reality. Is there a way? Thank you.
