  By following the steps below, you can clear the history of searching for files in Windows 7.

  Important: this section, method, or task contains steps that tell you how to modify the registry. However, serious problems can occur if you modify the registry incorrectly. Therefore, make sure that you proceed with caution. For added protection, back up the registry before you edit it. Then you can restore the registry if a problem occurs.   Back up the registry

  Open Registry Editor.
  1. type regedit in the start search box and press on enter
  2. navigate to the following registry entry:

  HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\WordWheelQuery

  3. delete the MRUListEx on the right by clicking right on pane and selecting delete.
  4. the close Registry Editor.

  Open Windows explore, test and see if the search results are deleted.

  You can choose to permanently disable lists Windows most recently used (MRU) if group policy is enabled in your edition of Windows. Group Policy Editor is only available in the professional edition, full and Windows 7 Enterprise edition. You will not have the Publisher of local group policy available in Windows 7 Starter and Home Premium editions.

  Open Group Policy Editor:

  1. click on start and in the search box type gpedit.msc
  2. now the Group Policy Editor opens. In it go to User Configuration > administrative templates > Windows components > Windows Explorer
  3. in the control panel under the gaze of Windows Explorer to disable the display of recent search entries in the search box on Windows Explorer
  4. right click and select Edit.
  5. use not configured or disabled to keep a history of search enabled.
  6. use will disable the search history.
  7 close the Group Policy Editor.

  I'm clearly not fire all wood today so I apologize once again.

  These records listed are part of the jump list for Windows explore.  Right-click on the Start button & select Properties, and then select Customize.

  At the bottom of the dialog box, set the number of recent items to display in jump lists to 0.  This will affect all the other lists of shortcuts as well.

  I just bought a new HP laptop with Windows 7 64 bit and am ready to throw it out the window.  The search function is the worst.  He is unable to find files containing search terms - only discovered the files whose file NAMES containing the search terms.  It does not define the search parameters as did Windows XP.  How can I keep/use the search function of Windows XP?  Y at - it a patch?  A fix?  An add-on software that I can use?  Microsoft warns that if you try to uninstall Windows 7 and try to install Windows XP, your computer may become "unusable".  Search results are inaccurate - I use it for work and I can't have a search function that does not work as XP did or get wrong results!  I've already indexed all of the computer and 2 sessions of chat with people from HP support.  Nada. Only when the file or folder is highlighted is present in all its glory without glory.  I have search for mediainfo in C drive as drive D, where a lot of my programs residence without success.  Its not in Add/Remove Programs, of course.  Its just a litter from a previous uninstall which is always hanging around.

  It is in the registry?  Group Policy?  Maybe someone could point me in a direction... :))

  Just need to know what I'm doing to control what is displayed under these Menu items.  In fact, this raises another point: if I could control what is displayed here, it would be wonderful, and Windows Explorer would be even better than it already is... which is good enough as a file manager.  I tried to Total Commander, but found much more fluid to use Windows Explorer.  Here again, I am a fool.  :)

  Its really amazing how the vast majority of computer users have no idea where everything is on their system.  When I draw to them with things of the Explorer Windows are starting to fall into place in their minds.  Its a shame Microsoft (and Apple is just as guilty as anyone) is not like the default mode to find stuff in the Windows Explorer operating system.  On the contrary, so many people use shortcuts (such as the office!) who just confuse greatly when they really need to find something manually. Then they totally lost.

  We defer the following steps:

   

  Method 1: See the following steps:

  a. click on start, then run

  b. type: REGSVR32 /i BROWSEUI. DLL

  c. close all Windows Explorer Windows

  (d) bring up the Task Manager

  e. kill explorer.exe (which is the operation of the office)

  f. in the Task Manager, select file, then new task (run)

  g. type explorer.exe

  h. open a new Windows Explorer and make sure that the search bar is displayed or not.

   

  Method 2: SFC scanner.
