How to completely erase and re format a hard drive

We had a full hard drive on our old desktop failure, so we ran down and I bought a cheap one off itself Deminsion E521 with a 250GB hard drive in it just to make us while I ordered a new XPS system. Once we have received the new system, I tried to add the hard drive off the E521 it temporarily just to drag and drop some files on the new computer. The problem is that the new computer was a RAID configuration and somehow he tried to add the third disc in the table and in the process of wiping the boot sector of the disk and partitions are today all messed up. I then reinstalled the drive in the E521 and I wanted to just wipe and re-install windows on it and configure for children (forget the files). The technology of dell on the phone had me try to boot from the recovery disk and reinstalling windows. The problem is that it shows only 32GB to 250 GB is available to install windows on the other 200 is not allocated and has no file system. Back it will not allow me start format because there no assigned what drive letter either. From now on, I borrowed a speaker and the reader is installed in on my new office. When I look in my computer and view the player, he also says that it is only a 32 GB drive. Is that what I can do just to get the reader to factory setting in the form so I can reinstall windows on it. FYI, it's a Seagate barracuda 250 GB SATA HDD 7200,10

  • How backup complete photos and catalog on external hard drive?

I want to backup my entire LR library on an external drive for security. I want the backup to include photos as well as all the metadata of. I can't do it, and I can't find a similar question and answer on the forum. I am able to 'Export' pictures on my external hard drive, but the metadata file that gets exported is unreadable.

Please advise me how to do this simple and necessary procedure. Thanks in advance.

    Two steps to be completed-

    1. When you close the Lightroom program you should let make a backup of the CATALOG . OFTEN!

This is defined in the catalog preferences [Ctrl + Alt +] [Ctrl/Cmd + Alt + comma]

The catalog stores everything you do in the Lightroom program! including metadata.

AND save backups of the catalog to another physical disk (NOT in the same folder as the Lightroom program!)

    2. your original images must be 'Backed-up' or copied to a second location on a different physical drive your chosen method (and not by Lightroom)

Mac users can use {Time Machine}, PC users can use {SyncBack, Free File Sync, etc.)

    * It is usually not necessary to 'Export' all images unless you have a specific purpose - for example to post on Facebook, Pinterest, web page, printer, etc..

There is no object in the export of images from archive on your computer, if Lightroom has a catalogue of work!

I have a big problem and I would like to reinstall windows XP, but I don't want to format my HD.
When I was with Win98, I had to insert the boot disk and the Windows 98 CD and I could just reinstall windows 98!
With the Cd rescued provide my computer (Satellite A80) I can format my HD and install windows XP. Is there a solution to reinstall all windows Xp and keep the other file?

    Hello

Well, I recommend to create a second partition on the HARD drive. There you can reinstall you new version of Windows XP.
If you want to use the Toshiba Recovery CD, you must use the Expert mode to recover the operating system, because there you can choose the partition.

  • Satellite P30: How to format the HARD drive and install a new OS?

I have a satellite P30 laptop with Windows XP. I plug myself a new OS (namely because I can't find my old recovery CD CD and OS) that I want to do a re-shape full of my system. Reason is that my system has been painfully slower and slower over the last year. I even updated my RAM to 512 MB standard supplied with the machine to 2 GB, but it seems to have had little or no effect. So my questions are:-

1] where can I get my hands on the restore CD that has all the drivers on this subject, and any recovery CD to reformat my HARD drive?
[2] in the order in which I will make this reformatting?
How can [3] after having bought an external HARD drive to keep files that I don't want to lose, I transfer those of before my re - format?

Any help will be greatly appreciated

    :-)

    Hello

You received with the laptop Toshiba Recovery CD! Am I wrong?
    So what s the problem?

Simply insert the CD and try to boot from this CD.
The restore CD contains all Toshiba drivers, tools and utilities Windows OS + additional software like Win DVD for example.
The installation will set the laptop to factory settings, but will also format the HARD drive!

Up to now, we come to the point 3; --> How do I save the data
If you have purchased a second HDD and connect it to the USB port and transfer all the necessary files on the second HDD
If you have purchased only the HARD drive, then you will need a USB HDD 2.5 case.

  • How to format a hard drive in XP?

I recentley made a restore of the system on my PC. My broadband is provided by BT and the BT Netprotect Plus/McAfee Security. I phone BT to ask my BT Netprotect Plus being reinstalled, they tried three times, without success. BT told me that I needed to have the hard PC formatted disk. If possible someone would be kind enough to tell me what it is and how to go on this subject? My PC is HP Pavilion Media Center that I bought in 2006. Any advice would be appreciated gratefully. Thanks in advance.

What is your PC model number ?

It is HIGHLY unlikely that you need to format your hard drive!

Please, tell us what you mean by "did a restore of the system on my PC." This term is vague and can mean a number of different things. Be as specific as possible. In addition, why perform you this action in the first place? (In the future, if you feel the need to do something like that, do and post here instead of orientation.)

Finally, what is more/McAfee of BT Netprotect's? Is this some kind of security now? If so, almost everyone here recommend not use you and use instead one better! And there are security programs better who are free. If you are interested, let know us.

You are able to go online with this PC yet?
