  • How to disable enable a Windows XP license on a dead computer

The HARD drive on my old laptop croasse.  I have a retail license of Windows XP, which I believe is transferable to another computer.  How can I make sure that the new owner of the software will be able to turn on their computer.

I replaced my old computer with a new one that comes with Windows 7 pre-installed.

    Thank you

As far as I KNOW, you don't "turn off."  A Windows XP package retail (CD with the product key) can be transferred to anyone.   After installation, the new owner must "activate" the installation.  If the attempt to activate the new owner is more than 120 days after the last active time one installation with this product key, the activation automatic online system should work OK.  If it is less than 120, the new owner must activate by phone and explain that he or she has purchased the product from you and you the deleted from your computer.

The relevant part of the XP EULA appears to have changed slightly over the years and/or between XP Home and XP Pro, as in the following examples:

Transfer to third parties. The initial user of the software may make a one-time transfer of this EULA and the software to another end user, provided the initial user retains no copies of the software. This transfer must include the software and the proof of license label. The transfer may not be an indirect transfer, such as a consignment. Before the transfer, the user receives the software must accept all the terms of the EULA.

Transfer to third parties. The initial user of the product can perform the one-time transfer of the product to another user. The transfer must include all of the components, media, printed, agreement of LICENSE and if applicable, the certificate of authenticity. The transfer may not be an indirect transfer, such as a consignment. Before the transfer, the user receiving the transferred product must agree to all the terms of the EULA. No rental. You may not rent, lease, lend or provide commercial hosting services to third parties with the product.

The main thing is that I said in the first paragraph.  Interestingly, MS no longer includes downloadable Windows XP in its licensing agreements: http://www.microsoft.com/About/Legal/EN/US/IntellectualProperty/UseTerms/Default.aspx "Please note that this site may not include the license terms for Microsoft software or the computer manufacturer no longer supports."

  • How to transfer the license to a different computer (CS5)

Hi all, I'm really sorry if this is the wrong forum to ask, but I thought it was the right one!

I need to transfer the license to the standard design CS5 together on another computer, since the old one it'll be sold and put in shape.

I have not found the right way to do it, so I'm asking here.

    Thank you for your help.

    Linda

    Hi Windycina,

I believe that you always have access to the serial number. If you do, please use the below download link to download Adobe Design Standard CS5 (if you do not have the media with you) and use the serial number to complete the installation.

    Other downloads

For the deactivation of the previous machine, please start one of the products (i.e. Photoshop), navigate to help > Deactivate.

  • I can't install 64-bit Windows Vista with the help of an old license of a dead computer?

Old license Windows Vista on the new computer

I have a Windows Vista Ultimate license that came with my 32-bit laptop and I have a new 64 bit laptop. Can I install Windows Vista 64-bit using the old license? I already threw the old laptop, and so I won't use the license in addition to a laptop computer.

You can tranfer commercial versions, but not the OEM versions. An OEM version is only intended to be used on the computer that it is installed first. It is likely that the old license is an OEM version.
