  There are two possibilities. A hybrid shutdown occurred in Windows 8 (default option) or the "open Panel - Power On" is activated.

  I would like to disable the functionality of edge Swipe on my laptop. I have an Acer Aspire V5 - 573G with a Synaptics ClickPad V8.1. The currently installed driver version is 16.3.12.31, which is the latest version provided on the Acer Support page. However this Version does not provide the option to disable Edge Swipe. So I tried to install the latest generic version of the Synapticsdriver (17.0.19), who supposedly has such an option. Unfortunately, that version installation failed on each attempt. I've seen this problem on noumerous forums and support sites and the only solution that seems to work is to create an entry in the registry as described here has been described by Miketech11. I created the key, value and then restarted, but it did not work. It is in the registry, but edge is always active. Here's a screenshot of my regedit:

  I'd appreciate any help with this, because it's really annoying to always have the charm pop up bar accidentally.

  Also, I wondered also why this option was not there, because it obviously is a feature that will disturb many people. But it is certainly not there, because I saw the screenshots where the option is supposed to be and I watched several times hollow the driver options without finding. I have however seen screenshots of older versions of the driver, when the option was available, so either Synaptics removed he or she left due to changes by Acer.

  I have a new HP laptop with Windows 8.1. I HATE the charms bar. It is very annoying.
