How to display "ename" (varchar2 data type) in Initcap, lower- or uppercase...

Hello

I am new to ORACLE DBA and just started my training...

I know how to put in the form of "Columns" using sqlplus, but my question is how can I display "ename" (from EMP table) at the TOP, bottom or Initcap case using "SELECT *"...?

I know that i can make it in writing for example select statement

Select

EmpNo,

Lower (ename),

etc.

etc.

Of

EMP;

and the above statement show me the ename result is converted to lowercase.

But suppose that if table has too many columns and I want to just change columen name in initcap so how can I do. I don't mean every column in my select as above.

is it possible that I can use the format column command with "Select *" statement.

for example

Col ename as initcap

Select * from emp;

...????????

Something like that? It will show all the coulmns of emp and INITCAP column (ename)

SELECT e.*, INITCAP (ename) initcap_ename e emp;

    I need to create a table with the same columns with data like number types (19)

    Thank you

    You have changed your original post, so now I see that you get the invalid number.

    This is why you should always avoid the varchar columns to store numbers or dates...

    Since your table source contains a nonnumeric value, you can write a pl/sql to convert data and see what records are false:

    SQL> insert into a (col1,col2) values ('xxxx','2345');

    1 row created.

    SQL> select * from a;

    COL1     COL2

    1234     2345
    xxxx     2345

    2 rows selected.

    SQL> create table b (col1 number(19), col2 number(19));

    Table created.

    SQL> set serverout on

    SQL> declare
      2  cursor c is
      3  select * from a;
      4  begin
      5    for r in c loop
      6     begin
      7       insert into b values (to_number(r.col1), to_number(r.col2));
      8     exception
      9       when invalid_number then
     10        dbms_output.put_line('Row rejected: col1='||r.col1||' col2='||r.col2);
     11     end;
     12    end loop;
     13  end;
     14  /
    Row rejected: col1=xxxx col2=2345

    PL/SQL procedure successfully completed.

    SQL> select * from b;

  • Convert a varchar2 data type Date

    Hi guys,.

    Can someone help me convert a Varchar2 data type in the data type Date?

    I have a query and my column is a varchar2 data type.
    I want to just that convert the Varchar2 in a DATE, because I met
    problem in my query. I want to do the day1 day10 transaction.

    Ex:
    Day 1 = January 1, 2010
    Day10 = January 10, 2010

    table.record_date varchar2 (12)

    SELECT column1, Column2
    table
    where record_date between? and?

    How can I set the record_date between day1 and day10 since record_date is of type varchar?

    Thank you.

    Laetitia

    Lala,

    If the data in the database are in the format MM-DD-RR , then you must use the same format when you convert back to this day.

    So change the query to

    SELECT COLUMN1, COLUMN2 FROM TABLE WHERE TO_DATE(RECORD_DATE, 'MM-DD-RR') BETWEEN TO_DATE('01-JAN-2010') AND TO_DATE('10-JAN-2010')

    Manu.

    TO_DATE (substr (record_date, 1, 12), "HH24 MON-DD-YY")

    Same case expression does not change the data type.

  • How to determine if a data type is used in the comic book?

    Background:
    I am currently planning to install GoldenGate proof of Concept and have questions about the data types supported by the capture mode (pg 1-5, 1-6 in the installation guide). Is not in itself a matter of GoldenGate.

    Our source and target databases are 11.2.0.2
    The GG server will be 11.2.0.3
    I'm new to the environment and want to confirm that we needn't upgrade the source and target the DBs to 11.2.0.3 in order to use the integrated capture mode. This forces me to know if 3 specific types of data are used in the comics. The problem is, Oracle docs aren't clear to me, when they refer to 3 specific data types.

    Here's the question:

    Does anyone know how I can confirm that the following 3 data types are used in the DB by querying the dictionary: "XML stored in binary form',"XML stored as object-relational","abstract data Type "?

    If I select the types of data separate from dba_tab_columns, I see no data enumerated type that indicates, for example, that an XML string is stored as a ' binary '.

    For me, when Oracle made reference to a "stored as binary XML" on page 1-6 on the installation guide, I guess that makes Oracle refers to a BLOB that contains an XML reference, but I can't be sure.

    Someone has an idea that they could share? I just want to confirm that we do not have to upgrade our source and target DBs at 11.2.0.3 by searching in the database is possible to confirm that the above 3 data types are not used by the application.

    Thanks in advance for any help.

    You should find XML columns stored in binary form or CLOB using the DBA_XML_TAB_COLS view referenced in http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E11882_01/appdev.112/e23094/xdb01int.htm#g644983.

    You should find XML tables using storage relational object in the view DBA_OBJECT_TABLES with:

    select
    owner,
    table_name,
    table_type
    from
    dba_object_tables
    where
    table_type='XMLTYPE';

    To abstract data type, you can query DBA_TAB_COLUMNS using ADT as literal for DATA_TYPE column:

  • Bad high and low value with the varchar2 data type

    Hello

    It is an application on e - biz on database 9205, with inventory module.

    In one of the mtl_txn_request_headers of the table, the data for the number of application type is varchar2 (30). When I checked the low_value & high_value in dab_tab_columns, I see that the low_value is 100001 (6 digits) and high_value is 99999 (5 digits).

    I used the utl_raw.cast_to_varchar2 (low_value) to convert the value.

    In our case, we save a large part of the value in incremental number and some of our query will be in the predicate of the range (between).

    How should I handle this kind of situation and which option do I?

    Appreciate any help. Thank you.

    Accepted this looks like a classic bad-data type problem, but as this picture seems be part of Oracle E-Business Suite the OP should probably talk first Oracle.

    The employee number may be whatever it is based on the requirement, for example, you can have employee number which begins with the a. The data type of this field is Varchar2 instead of the number so you can customize employee number using the quick forumla.
