I have a sony Vaio laptop and I got windows vista family premium pre installed on it when I got it, I got disks of windows with it. Recently my laptop kept showing a blue screen and shut down, I decided to restore to factory settings I had tried almost everything... to halfway through the process it switch itself off, now when I turn it on he says...
Windows could not start. A recent hardware or software change might be the cause. To solve the problem:
1. Insert your windows installation disc and restart your computer.
But I don't have the installation disc, I have ever received.
He also says...
File: \windows\system32\winload.exe
Status: 0xc000000f
Info: The selected entry could not be loaded because the application is missing or damaged.
It doesn't let me go on any other screen, it's all that said...
Help? Please?
Contact your computer manufacturer and ask them to send a recovery disk/s Vista set.
Normally, they do this for a cost of $ small.
Problem with the recovery process, contact Sony.
This isn't their recovery process, Microsoft.
See you soon.

I ran, "Find new solutions", in the problem reports and Solutions and a new solution was found for Blue error screen and he recommended that I have download Windows Vista SP1. I have SP2, so I need to download the old version too?
Hi JJ,
I took the lead and it moved to the Performance and maintenance Forum. In response to the original question don't you're useless to download SP1 again since you have installed SP2. However, it would be preferable to follow with PA support to troubleshoot the Stop Code you receive.

Windows vista SP2 update failed twice
error code 800F0816 - when the vista sp2 update is completed and the facilities, it goes in a restart, windows does not load and I get the error code after crossing the repair mode
The error is related with component maintenance (EC).
According to this list of common CBS errors:800F0816 - express package was not completely downloaded. The status of the operation was recorded while the package is downloaded. An express package is a package that you are installing by using Windows Update. With these packages, only the files needed for that specific computer are downloaded and installed (unlike when all is downloaded to a computer).
There is no action required on your part, wait for the express package is downloaded.Alternatively, you can:
(1) post this question on the forum Vista and Windows Server 2008 Service Pack 2 .

My computer will not download windows vista sp1
I tried the update of windows vista sp1, and it continues to fail. I even tried manually upgrade and still nothing. I recently bought an external hard drive and I thought that I formatted it to my pc and mac. Well my pc does not recognize it because sp1 is not installed. I can't yet do a clean restore and download windows vista because I don't have the CD. Is there anything I can do to receive sp1. I see that many people have had this problem.
Hello
How have you tried to manually install SP1?

You can contact your computer manufacturer and ask them to send you a set of recovery discs, IF it is still available.
They should do this for a small fee.

Go to programs > name of the manufacturer of your computer > then their system or recovery tools software topics for them, depending on how it is formulated.
If you can't find any reference to it, contact the manufacturer for advice on how to make these recovery disks.

Some manufacturers have more available Vista recovery disks.
If this happens, you may need to try this instead:
You can also borrow and use a Microsoft Vista DVD, which contains the files for the different editions of Vista (Home Basic, Home Premium, Business and Ultimate) must be installed. The product key on your computer / Laptop box determines what Edition is installed.
Other manufacturers recovery DVDs are should not be used for this purpose.
And you need to know the version of 'bit' for Vista, as 32-bit and 64-bit editions come on different DVDs

Used to install Windows Vista SP2. Error 0x8004100a
Hello
I know I'm a little late to this but I have never tried to install SP2 before that never came. I now need to install for a new part and for the life of me I can't make it work.I am currently running Windows Vista SP1 32 bit on an Intel E8400 Core2Duo with 4 GB of memory and a lot of HARD drive space.I downloaded SP2 and tried to install (downloaded because it has never been available via Windows Update)-all I get is before trying to install anything even really is "an unknown error occurred, error 0x8004100a.I then installed system update readiness tool, which is listed as installed successfully. All other updates available had already been installed. I disabled my antivirus and subsequently disabled it and all the other programs startup, restarted, and I still get the same error. I stopped all non-microsoft services and no change. For the life of me and with the hours spent searching google, I can not know how else to install this SP2. Are there other things I need to do?Thank youHello Alex
There are a few suggestions for this particular error on troubleshooting forums. Here's a suggestion is given by another Member of the forum who have worked for others. Refer also to the KB down concerning the specific error code that you gave. Thank you
SP2 was offered through Windows Update? If this isn't the case, then it might suggest that the laptop was not ready.

My windows Vista (sp2) contains updates it refuses to install!
(1) Microsoft .NET Framework 4 on Windows (KB2468871)(2) update for Microsoft .NET Framework 4 (KB2533523)and(3) update for Microsoft Silverlight (KB2617986) this update of Silverlight includes the fixes described in KBs 2604930 and 2617986.When I tried to get help via the MS support, I was told that my install Silverlight could be the problem and uninstall all previous versions and install a new one.The current version on my machine is 3. something or other (Google Chrome me briefly earlier, but I can't seem to tell me yet again!) He also pointed out that the current version is 5. something or other. However, I don't know--according to the functionality of uninstall in Control Panel - my version was installed on 21/01/2010 - about 7 months after I got the satellite (a Toshiba). It occurs to me - as it has been ongoing for awhile I fought first to make this thing work and then ignore it (neither of which, it seems, I am able of!)-update Windows is trying to apply can be updated too!According to the update of Windows, all three of these updates have downloaded - but I am not sure where... When I tried to uninstall the old version of Silverlight, Windows Uninstall (via Control Panel) tells me that I need the Silverlight installation disc to go ahead. I've never had one! What can I do? Why these upgrades do not work? It has been for months! Help, please.ColinHello
