Error 0x8007045D when you try to install Windows Vista SP2
Hello
Currently I have Windows Vista SP1 and want to upgrade to service pack 2. When I try to do the update of Windows, I get "error (0x8007045d) Error_IO_DEVICE. I also tried to install it in safe mode, I get the same error message. After having traveled a bit on the internet, I found that it is probably because my HDD is damaged... so I run the chkdsk program...
The chkdsk program stops at 16%... Step 4 of 5... When 85785 files off 300000something files are done... and it does nothing more. It keep running like this all night, it goes no further.
Does anyone have any suggestions on what I need to do to successfully install Windows Vista SP2?
Thanks for your help!
OK, I started the computer with the Windows CD and I ran chkdsk /f at a command prompt.
Chkdsk /f found errors it corrects.
I ran Chkdsk/r... .he got stuck after scanning 85763 files... near the place, he would always get stuck (85785 files)... so I guess it's the same file that crashes chkdsk.
The good news: I still have a functioning computer.
The bad news is that I ran the SP2 from windows update in new safe mode and it didn't work... I'm still stuck with my problem.
I have an extra hard drive... that I ordered from Dell for my girlfriend's computer, his computer died before she could use the player, but it is larger, then the drive of your computer and it is brand new... the only downside is that the player has been implemented for the computer of my girlfriend (pilots and other things) and does not work in my computer. I guess I'll try to format that drive to make it work in my computer... it should fix this and then bad SP2 remedial power very well.
I guess I have no choice.
I suggest to remove avg (uninstall) then try sfc/scannow then chkdsk /f several times. a few times, they need more going to make things more
Microsoft security essentials is a better a v for not update couseing problems.
You can allways put avg in the back.
not having is not enouph to free space for temporary files can couse problems too.

New hard drive try to install Windows vista, but it keep suspended after 60% collapsed I tried a few time every time I had to wait for 5 hours, but the same thing happen again and again can help you pleaaaaaaaaaaaaase
Monastir,
What happens when it stops it is have a Sata driver. It is on the drivers cd you received with your computer. You can also start the computer and press F2 to enter the bios. From there down to Configuration system - SATA Operation and change this to ATA. It is located to AHCI. Save the changes and restart the installation. Once you have loaded Windows and drivers installed, you will need to go back to AHCI.

Original title: Windows of Vista SP2 update fails. Vista Upgrade option grayed out
Is no longer, I can download and install the updates for Vista SP2. I get error 80070490, who reports that Vista Service Pack 1 is no longer up-to-date. I downloaded and installed the "System Update Readiness Tool" without change in error. Repair Vista with DVD does not give me the upgrade option. My SP-2 is corrupt? Vista Service Pack 2 also went out of support?
Kind regards

Cannot install Windows Vista SP2 due to error code 0 x 80070490
Original title: conclusion it is impossible to install the Vista SP2
Hello. I'm trying to update my parents with Vista SP2 computer, but it's a disaster. It is a 32-bit operating system. First of all, I tried to install it with windows live update but got the error code 0 x 80070490. Then I tried to download it manually from the Windows Download Center, but this has led to the same problem occurs. I then removed all virus protection programs and tried again, but it still doesn't work. I then downloaded the Windows Update Readiness Tool 947821 KB but when I try and install it it freezes for hours constantly and will not install. I think of anything else to do and I was wondering if anyone can help. Thank you

Used to install Windows Vista SP2. Error 0x8004100a
Hello
I know I'm a little late to this but I have never tried to install SP2 before that never came. I now need to install for a new part and for the life of me I can't make it work.I am currently running Windows Vista SP1 32 bit on an Intel E8400 Core2Duo with 4 GB of memory and a lot of HARD drive space.I downloaded SP2 and tried to install (downloaded because it has never been available via Windows Update)-all I get is before trying to install anything even really is "an unknown error occurred, error 0x8004100a.I then installed system update readiness tool, which is listed as installed successfully. All other updates available had already been installed. I disabled my antivirus and subsequently disabled it and all the other programs startup, restarted, and I still get the same error. I stopped all non-microsoft services and no change. For the life of me and with the hours spent searching google, I can not know how else to install this SP2. Are there other things I need to do?Thank youHello Alex
There are a few suggestions for this particular error on troubleshooting forums. Here's a suggestion is given by another Member of the forum who have worked for others. Refer also to the KB down concerning the specific error code that you gave. Thank you
SP2 was offered through Windows Update? If this isn't the case, then it might suggest that the laptop was not ready.
