  Stupidly I deleted my iTunes library earlier today and fight to get it back. (All purchased songs always appear but all songs imported from CDs are gone). I deleted the library and then empty the trash. I have a update on my external hard drive last night so hope I can restore my library iTunes from my external hard drive, but can't get it. The other suggestion is to open iTunes - file - Library - Library to import the backup file, but also no results.

  It seems it should be easy but... not for me to do something. Can anyone offer advice that does not suggest that I have to re - import all the music?

  The file that you must replace is located in the following location.

  / Users/USERNAME/music/iTunes/iTunes Media/Music

  Just replace the one on your Mac with the library you want. Don't forget, it's only music, not any what other apps, videos etc., if you want to replace it, replace the entire iTunes Media.

  It depends on what you actually put on the disk. A library is all files and folders in the iTunes folder. This includes an .itl file that stores information about all the music in your library and where these files are located.  If it is kept as a package when moving you can start iTunes while holding down the option/alt key and show iTunes where the .itl with information is kept. If you only move media files to a new drive there are several options, but I'm not typing in all this information until I know what you need.

  I understand that you have a problem with access to your music on your MacBook Pro. Let's see if we can get this sorted out.

  If you use Apple iTunes game or music, then you will need to make sure you have iCloud active library. I opened iTunes preferences and on the general tab, you should see iCloud music library and make sure that it is checked. After that, your library will appear.

  Need help because I have recently taken the plunge and moved from PC to a Mac. I have can´t work is how to import my itunes library and the overall rating. in my opinion, it should be a simple thing but so far, all my efforts and solutions online did not work.

  I tried the data migration. This has created a new user. I thought that I could transfer the files in the set (all CD), but when I click on a song in the new user, it couldn t find the file. FYI I had consolidated the library itunes beforehand.

  I also tried to use an external HD drive. Same result even if I managed to put all my music on. I figured out how to export my rankings. Charge of their place and it worked until I clicked on a song and it couldn t find a file.

  This really should be simple so all advice very welcome.

  See make a library of portable split. A portable library can be moved from one platform to the other while keeping the ratings, playlists, etc. You can move the data over a network, or use an external drive. If you are using an external drive, so that you may need to copy the library twice larger Windows disks are NTFS format that OS X can read natively, but not will not write. And iTunes must be on a recordable disc.

  So, my question is about my MacBook Pro 15 "(early 2011), who crashed. I have been using a loan MBP and MBA from my wife. Within 6 months or that I plugged my iPhone 6 more to make backups, or install iOS 10 public beta, I don't know all the problems I've had in the past.

  I'm doing something that should be extremely simple, and Apple has found a way to make it incredibly difficult. I'm moving my media to a new computer. On my old computer, all the media has been on the J: drive. On my new computer, it's all about the D: drive. Other than that, the folder structure is exactly the same. Apple says that in documentation for migrating to a new computer, activate the option "Keep iTunes folder organized Media". There are several reasons why this is not an option, mainly because iTunes is the absolute worst to organize your media folder. I've seen cases where iTunes dumps simply all your files perfectly organized in a single folder for you to figure out what that is when you get the file you need. No thanks, I'm perfectly capable of organizing my own files. Not to mention, my multimedia files are on a data disc and the app folder, where the files to iTunes library is on an SSD with limited storage. Then... Guard iTunes library trace the location of support using a "iTunes Music Library.xml" file. I've updated this file to use the new location and when I open iTunes on my new computer, everything is perfect. All my media is there with all my custom illustrations I apply (iTunes can also be really terrible at the corresponding work on music not purchased via iTunes!). If great, let's get my iPhone recognized now because it's really the only reason why I use iTunes. As soon as I connect my phone and it starts the synchronization process, it crushes everything in the XML file and returns all my music in the original location (now the music in the iTunes library has!'s next to all my music sync). You're going to go to a song and it will ask you the new location, I can go to, and then iTunes invites even to use this new location to update other files 'disappeared', but the problem is this feature only searches the subfolder where the particular file is located, you have access to what is in this case an album. Do you know how many albums I have? You mean I have to go to every single album and update the location manually? Once again, no thanks! So my thought at this point, ok, let's just resync all the music with the phone, that well that is always a huge pain given the extremely slow transfer speeds from your computer to your phone (Apple Hi, meet 3.1 USB or same USB 3.0) in combination with the size of my library (we're talking days to complete!), it's even less of a pain then go each file (or a piece of each album) and updated the location. On a side note - it would be really great if the synchronization on the Wi - Fi technology still works... I mean, they had what, over 4 years to operate and you're still lucky if your phone is recognized by Wi - Fi. That means I have to leave my phone on my computer for days and who really has the ability to do? Sorry, I digress. So, I removed all of my music from my phone and got iTunes to be happy with the new drive letter. Great, let's start the arduous process to sync my music on my phone. I re - activate the option synchronize my music and what happens, my iPhone again overwrites my iTunes library with the former location of media! Excuse me, but how is it reasonable to have the phone, which is a destination and contains a subset of your library, to be the registration system for which the files are stored in the source? I mean come on! This is absurd! I've always hated that Apple is owner and forces you to use iTunes (some of the worst software ever developed) to manage/sync your media. But for years, I have it justified by saying iPhone works simply. No worries. Well, I'll say, it does not just work and my insinuation that Apple made simple products that just don't work no longer holds water. At this point, I am very close to say goodbye to the iPhone and switch to Google project. I'm tired of less expensive phones friends surpassing my overpriced device that uses obsolete technology. Sort of, I'm sorry to dump all this on the community, but it is absolutely ridiculous that it's so complicated to change a drive letter and I am at my wits end.   Hello. How can I get iTunes library from my old Macbook loaded on my new Macbook using the backup Time Machine that exists from the old machine. The new mac is connected to the time machine, I can open Time machine, see the backups, but get nowhere when you attempt to load the library in iTunes on my new Macbook. I see the file .itl from the old machine to backups... where can I go from here?

  The iTunes library on the new machine is empty, so save is not a matter of concern.

  So, I was wondering if I should completely remove iTunes from my iMac, the re - install it if this could work?

  Although I had to remove, and then reinstall iTunes, I still have all my content back inside however get. All content currently, lives on an external hard drive and so I do not know what to do really. I thought maybe I could drag and drop content more but there is more content on this external drive to the room, I have available on my iMac.

  The first method rebuilt your library by using a backup file created whenever you updated the iTunes application. If you have videos in there at the time that they should appear even if only as broken links. If they had not been entered and then realize that it uses an older version of your library file.  The library file doesn't say what media he recorded for you and where, not an inventory of your media files to iTunes.

  The second method allows to rebuild the library based on a version in alternate formats of the library file. It is regularly updated and if, during your previous attempts it updated the .xml to match the library at this stage, then that is clearly not good.

  I do not reinstall the application. If you are desperate then simply slide the media on the outside back into the existing library.  Designated as the place to store media in iTunes > Preferences > advanced is the external drive then he should leave the files there.

  That data is stored in the iTunes library database file, which is in your user account music/iTunes / folder.  You have access to your old Mac?  If you do, the best way to transfer your data complete a new Mac iTunes is to copy the old Mac iTunes folder (in your music folder user account) on an external drive.  Then, on the new Mac, replace the iTunes with the old Mac folder.  When you run iTunes on the new Mac, it looks like iTunes on the old Mac, with all your songs and data (such as playlists, playing account, ratings, etc.)  This document describes the procedure in detail

  You must download and install iTunes 12.1.3 - this is output from output of sequence that enables support of iOS 9 for XP and Vista users (but lack of music to Apple and other features added in 12.2/12.3, which requires Windows 7 or a later version).

  If you simply want to transfer your iTunes library from your old computer to the new, you don't need iTunes to support it, unless you need consolidate the library as a preliminary step - see How to move your iTunes library to a new computer - Apple Support for more information.

• How to remove all the songs in a playlist of my itunes library?

  My request here is, is it possible that I can select all the pieces that I have selected in iTunes and delete all of these songs in my iTunes library. To clarify I'm asking not how to remove and individual songs or how to remove a playlist, I want the songs within a time to be gone, or deselected somehow.

  Basically, I recently bought a new laptop and I've been moving all of my music from the old laptop to the new aid, sticks of memory of 8 GB that I don't have an external hardrive and would rather not pay for someone else to come and move the contents of my hard drive from one to the other. On my previous laptop, I had a playlist containing all the songs I want on my phone for synchronization purposes, as I had too much music to store it all. For reasons to keep this playlist and without having to build all over again I first transferred the music in the playlist of phone. The problem is I now want to transfer the songs that aren't in that playlist aswell, but I can't find anyway to select only the titles so that I can drag them into my memory stick. I can't delete the songs in the playlist one by one as there are almost 6000 titles in there then, obviously, that would be very time consuming.

  I would recommend before you do anything destructive with your library you backup your iTunes for Windows with SyncToy library. It is also the tool I would recommend that you use to transfer the library to a computer, first back up and restore then (in a folder empty) to the other machine. Doing it this way means that you get the sides play heads of prosecution, playlists, date added, and that you don't have to erase and reload your content. It also ensures that you have a backup! Hard drives external are quite cheap and you should not skimp. That said, if the two computers are on the same network, you can use SyncToy to copy the iTunes folder from one to the other, if you open the folder music sharing on a computer, so it can be seen from the other.

  As for the original question, Ctrl + A to select everything in a playlist. SHIFT-DELETE to remove it from the library. But I really wouldn't like that.
