  Yes while watching a video (whether on Youtube, etc.) or a downloaded in Quicktime video format will stop after a minute and the buffer or simply freeze (Note: though it has already loaded or is already on my hard drive!), will be so audio. After 15 seconds the sound plays and the video remains frozen.

  Same thing while listening to music (Spotify or Itunes (both downloaded)), the music will stop randomly. After a few seconds, the music will continue with a whistling noise that fades in 5 seconds approximately.

  tried several different browsers

  Because this motherboard (ASUS P5Q SE2), uses VIA VT1708S 8 - channel High-Definition Audio CODEC.

  And my PCI Firewire card is also VIA - according to Device Manager. It is running Vista. If I connect my DV cam (which has a mini-port FW on it), then turn it on, the entrance FW in Device Manager says there is a problem. But if I disconnect the cam, then restart, the FW entrance goes back to normal. I've seen this prob before, where someone else had the same prob (but firewire was aboard).

  I tried updating the FW driver through the Device Manager, but there isn't a newer driver available. I know that the FW card is fine. It was in my mobo previously (P5Q SE/R), which uses the Realtek ALC 1200, 8 - channel high definition Audio CODE, without going through. So, any ideas on how to resolve this conflict?

  Looks like I found the prob / cause. ASUS drivers Via for the sound. The latest version from the ASUS site

  I uninstalled them so I use the audio drivers by default Vista. The sound and the FW work. I plugged the cam DV again, made windows sound and it connected right away. Must be something in the audio drivers causing the conflict (such as an address / IRQ entry or something in the inf file).

  Dell Optiplex 7010 bought in January, Windows 7 SP1 with all updates.

  Sometimes during the month, I started to notice that some videos audio was very low and others had very distorted audio. This occurs when streaming video during playback of downloaded files and YouTube etc. A few videos where the sound was fine when I downloaded them are now distorted.

  Other records and videos are fine, normal levels, no change by when I downloaded them.

  The problem is not specific to any video site, player or plug-in. I can confirm by playing the same thing on other devices that the problem is not in the stream or file. So it seems that this must depend on which codec is used. This theory is supported by videos from the same source, generally having the same problem, or no problem.

  I updated the Dell RealTek audio drivers, uninstalled them and used the generic Microsoft drivers, installed the RealTek drivers.

  Audio troubleshooting of Windows detects no problem.

  Disable sound effects has no effect.

  Any suggestions on what else to try?

  I guess I should install a 1394 PC card, plug my PreSonus audio interface and see if that has the same problem.

  Hey again once, unfortunately I can't reproduce the problem on a windows pc and the console log is not very descriptive (at least for my level of knowledge).

  It seems that you may have exaggerated the NR. If it is primarily a hissing sound you want to remove, then take your noise sample highest using FFT it is. Better yet, use three different sizes of the FFT (low, medium, high) and a little out with each. Invariably, you will be able to take a little more out with the highest setting without artifacts, but the lower settings are more usage for certain kinds of noise. The thing about all this is however do not do too much, because that is when the murmur of strange noises and other artifacts to turn up.

  Must say however that something you should never be filmed interviews using a microphone mounted on the camera is in abject desperation! You really need a much closer the subject mic! With the best in the world, taking the sounds of your interview will also remove some of the tone of the room and leave you with a voice a bit 'distance' that sounds a bit disembodied, whatever you do; That's what relatively distant micing leaves you with. There really no satisfactory solution to this at all, after the event.
