  To avoid confusion, I'll call your former company and your most recent compositions CompB comps.

  CompA drag "New Comp" icon in the project window.  This will create a new temporary layout that contains the nested CompA.

  Drag in your new COMP CompB temporary ensure it aligns image for image with CompA.

  Place the top layer (CompB) difference.

  Now, when you play through the comp, you'll see differences in color at a time where the comparison and CompB are not identical.

  I'm putting a file After Effect in my first Pro.  I used to be able to bypass this by actually starting up After Effect and then the file could pull up.  However, after that I updated my Premiere Pro, I'm not having any luck.

  I think to re - install the software, but I want to do that as a last resort (I didn't need to do this kind of action before and a little uncomfortable about what I might lose - most of my After Effects files are on an external hard drive).

  Most of my learning and troubleshooting has been through YouTube except for the one time I came here with another problem (which is something to do with the limited capacity of my computer).

  In any case, suggestions from YouTube have not been successful.  All solutions?  Thank you very much!

  Simply having all these versions on your system or to find someone who has all these versions to help you. You only need the .aep filename. You don't need the layer source footage to save a previous version, but you will need the original source footage to nothing to do with the project.

  No one can tell you anything without the proper system or other technical details info. That said, it just seems that you have disk access problems on your system completely unrelated to AE. You need to fix this and then maybe the disk cache actually work...

I did my thesis in AE using music, so I can't believe I have to use the 8-bit version to try to animate, and then import the version made in first. Very disappointing!
