The icons I'm talking about are on the right side of the bottom bar.

See Canadian Tech response and for the record, let me mention
What follows:

1. What do you call the "bottom bar" is correctly called the task «»
bar. »

2. What do you call the "right side" is correctly called the
"notification area" or the "system notification area". It is also
informally known as the 'system tray '.

3. like most people, you apparently think that the taskbar is always to
the bottom of the screen. It is not the case. By default , it is at the bottom
of the screen, but it can be moved to any side of the screen you
he prefers on. On my screen, for example, it is on the left side, not
the lower part. With today's wide screen monitors, I prefer the taskbar
on the left or the right of the screen. I think that allows a better
use of real estate than have it at the bottom of screen.

  • How can I MOVE buttons on taskbar to a new location without having to close all programs and resume in the order I want?

I like to keep the buttons in my taskbar has organized with the browser and messaging on the left, followed by Windows Explorer and other items. If they get out of order or programs are loaded into a different order, how can I MOVE the buttons to a new location without having to close all programs and resume in the order I want? In addition, sometimes, one of program buttons seems in itself to migrate out of place and I need to get back to where it should be: same problem.

    Hi shohareZohre

Thank you for using the Microsoft Answers Forums!

The task bar is the horizontal bar at the bottom of your screen time. In contrast to the office, which can get obscured by the windows on top of it, the taskbar are visible nearly all the time. It includes four main sections:

    ·         The Start button, which opens the start menu.

    ·         The Quick Launch bar, which allows you to start programs with a single click.

    ·         The middle section, which shows you what programs and documents you have open and allows you to quickly switch between them.

    ·         The notification area, which includes a clock and icons (small pictures) that communicate the status of certain programs and computer settings.

Add or remove programs on the Quick Launch toolbar

The Quick Launch toolbar is located on the task bar and is a convenient way to open programs. You can add or remove program icons in the Quick Launch toolbar so that you have easy access to the programs that you use frequently.

To add a program icon to the Quick Launch toolbar

Click the icon for the program to add (you can find most icons of programs on the start menu or the desktop) and then drag it to the Quick Launch toolbar.

Note: If you don't see the toolbar tools quick launch, right-click on an empty area of the taskbar, click Toolbars, and then click quick launch.

To remove a program to the Quick Launch toolbar icon

Right-click on the icon of the program and then click Remove.

Notes: ·         Delete an icon from the taskbar does not remove its corresponding computer program.

    ·         If you want to stop showing a toolbar on the taskbar, right-click an empty area of the taskbar, point to toolbars, and then click the item that you want to stop broadcasting.

NOTE: The ability to move the programs in the taskbar is not possible in windows Vista but the same functionality is available in Windows 7. Please see the link below.

  • icons missing from the notification area on the taskbar (the path below the screen) - the volume icon disappeared and arrow to show/hide icons disappeared

The icons in the notification area of the bar (on the side of the lower right of the desktop) tasks are not all there.  The speaker/volume icon is over now and the arrow next to the notification (to show and hide icons) area has also disappeared.  I have not changed anything on the computer.  I tried to restart but it did not help.  No idea why this would suddenly disappear and how to get it back?

Have you tried right clicking on an empty area of the taskbar, properties tab and taskbar by selecting it and then pressing the button customize section Notification area? • How can I add the weather icon to the taskbar to be next to the time?

Try as I might, I can't figure this out.  I would like to add the weather icon to the taskbar.  I want it to be next to the time, so it is always displayed.  How can I do this?  I also want to remove some of the icons that appear in the part of the notification of the taskbar.  Yet once, I can't do it.

To add items to the taskbar in Windows XP, do one click right, choose Properties, select "Show quick launch", then OK. Now you can add existing shortcuts to the quick launch area (which is pretty much a location allows you to customize your own shortcuts), or you can right click on the quick launch are to open its 'file', then create new shortcuts to here (right click-> new-> shortcut).

To remove the part of the taskbar notification icons: If you are indeed referring to the notification area near the clock, try right-clicking on the icon and look for an option to delete/remove/disable. Not all icons will have such an option. Additional details on the notification in Windows XP bar can be found here. If you are actually referring to quick launch (next), and then activate it as I've described in the paragraph above, then you should be able with the right button and then remove them.
