How to make a sidebar to show when I open Firefox?

I can open it by clicking view, and then select sidebar

If the sidebar (F10 > view > sidebar) is open when you close Firefox, then it should open automatically the next time you start Firefox.

If this isn't the case, then you can check for problems caused by a corrupt localstore.rdf file.

  • How can I stop "change your default search... "to show when I open Firefox?

After the recent update (not the usual update of Firefox, I admit to be a bit surprised and checked) I had to reset some things on Firefox. It was setting the default Google search engine, another was setting Google to the homepage and another was setting the new tabs to open with the home page. Now, whenever I open Firefox, this big blue bar comes at the top of the home page: "See how to set Google as the default browser." Or words to that effect. Been there, done that, how to do this, go away.

Google has added on their homepage for people using firefox and Mozilla has no control over that. If you click "no thanks", it is not, however.

You can check the target line in the shortcut to the Firefox desktop (right click: properties) to make sure that nothing is added after the path to the Firefox program.

You can check for problems with the sessionstore.js and sessionstore.bak files in the profile folder of Firefox that store session data.

Rename (or delete) the sessionstore.js file and possible sessionstore-# .js files with a number and sessionstore.bak in the Firefox profile folder.

Delete sessionstore.js will cause App Tabs and groups of tabs open and closed tabs (back) to get lost and you will have to re-create them (take note or bookmarks if possible).

The offending site is loaded in a second tab as well as my home page when I open Firefox. How can I stop this loading site automatically?

    Hi lennynyr,

Out of curiosity, what is the additional site? You should take a look at the Knowledge Base How to set the home pagearticle.

There are the steps in this article to reset your preferences on the default home page. I would try everything first to clear all strangeness. If it works, you can try to set your homepage again to your personal preferences.

If this does not work, you should look at article unsaved Preferences.

    Hope this helps!

  • I did the update for Firefox 7 but when I open Firefox, it tells me that I must upgrade to the latest version which I have, how do I fix?

I keep my Firefox constantly updated, but in recent weeks Gmail has been telling me that I use an older version that she can't stand even though I have the updated version. I was warned that Firefox could be updated to the latest version, I did. After the update when I opened Firefox it told me that I needed to upgrade to the latest version that I had already done. How can I fix?

Having both versions is a possibility. The other is that the user agent is stuck to the old version of Firefox 3.5.3 due to some extension.

Check general.useragent preferences on the topic: config page.
You can open the topic: config page through the address (address) bar just like you open a Web site.

    Filter: general.useragent

If all general.useragent prefs are "BOLD" (user set) then right-click this pref and select reset.

We could probably due the FBSMTWB on the end of your useragent as the extension toolbar to Fast Browser Search added at some point and therefore the uptight version of Firefox. This problem has been resolved from Firefox 4.0.
