How to make a small virtual machine

I have two virtual machines created with VMWare Workstation, which I'm running on another computer using VMWare Server. I need to send a colleague virtual machines, so it can debug problems that I pointed out, but virtual machines are simply too large. Each compressed (zipped) folder is 12 GB. I checked and the virtual disks are not previously affected - it says on the VMWare server. Change the disk option: "disk space is not preallocated for this virtual disk. Content of the virtual disk is stored in a single file. »

I need to download the virtual machines and the process takes forever - I compressed the individual files and I'm trying to download the / 3GB zips one at a time, but it is still too slow.

I checked the VMWare Tools | Tab Shrink and who is disabled with the message "Shrink is disabled for this virtual machine. Shrink is disabled for linked clones, parents of clones related, préalloués disks, snapshots and other factors. »

Is it possible to do all of the smaller virtual machine file? I just want to share the virtual machine so that the problem can be reproduced and debugged... Best way to do this?

Any help will be appreciated!

I did this and was able to add the virtual computer to my inventory, start it and run "Shrink" of VMware Tools.

He ran on the disks withou any error, however, the vmdk file size is the same as before you run Shrink: 16 GB. Is this correct? Does this mean that I can't not smaller than that?

Assuming that Shrink in VMware Tools under VMware Server worked as it is supposed to...

According to the vmware.log file disk hard virtual is a disc is 16 GB monolithicSparse (single growable file) and assuming that you used the option t 0 and not of t 2 when using vmware-vdiskmanager then if after a shrink operation is 16 GB in size at first thought I would say that the disc was full however consider what follows.

How much free space is reported when you look at the properties for the C: drive in Windows Explorer (to the breast of the guest)?

In General, the amount of used space is the size, it should be after a shrink operation.

There are a few thing that can be done to help reduce the final size before shrinking...

IIRC in Windows Vista, the system restore default to 15% of the size of the hard drive so purging the Restore Points could save as much as 2.4 GB on a 16 GB drive.

Purge the cache of the browser (I.e. the temporary Internet files in Internet Explorer).

Delete the contents of the file folder and C:\Windows\Temp.

Disable Hibernation and delete the C:\hiberfil.sys (hidden by default) file because this file is the size of the amount of RAM to the virtual machine is affected.

There is more that can be done which has already been mentioned however covers the main sectors that can decrease the shrunken size of a virtual hard disk.

  • How to locate a new virtual machine on a different hard disk

    VMware Fusion 3.1.1 (282344) Mac OS 10.6.4.

I have a few virtual machines on my boot drive and am running out of space. I want to create a new Win 7 vm on a drive different but can't seem to figure out how to tell VMware to put there. I know I could create in the normal location on my boot drive and move it, but I didn't Go on the boot drive for this.

How to create the new virtual machine on the new drive?

    Thx for advice,

    Ken

As you walk through the Wizard New VM and you arrive at Cap sheet, you have two choices...

One is to select the Customize settings button and the other is just click the Finish button.  Each choice made appear to save to: dialog box and you can pick any location you want.  Note that you may need to click the down arrow located right of save it under: text box to expand this worksheet to display all the options.  BTW, clicking on this button is the standard behavior of OS X and has nothing to do with the VMware Fusion in itself.

How can I (of) a virtual machine of the VMFS without making the other virtual machines running in the same cluster? I know that the VMFS is a system of shared files grouped campaigns, exclusive property of vmware. Does anyone know the command to use?

If anyone has any info on this subject, it would be great.

This is the documentation is 1.5 ESX, released in 2002.

  • How to add a new virtual machine in VMPlayer inventory?

    People,

Hello. I'm installing Oracle Database 11 g 2 RAC system using 2 nodes that are 2 Virtual Machines on top 3 VMPlayer.

Their locations are C:\VM_RAC\rac1 and C:\VM_RAC\rac2.

The original rac1 VM is created in VMPlayer 3 and works correctly.

For the second rac2 VM, I simply copy all the files in the folder rac1 in rac2 folder. Then change its display name of "rac1' to 'rac2' in the rac2 configuration file.

But rac2 in not visible in VMPlayer and cannot be turned on.

To make rac2 in VMPlayer, we add rac2 in VMPlayer inventory. But I don't understand how to do it.

Can any folk tell me how to add the new VM rac2 VMPlayer stock, so that it can be powered on?

In the 'File' menu click 'Open Virtual Machine... "and select the .vmx file in the folder of the virtual machine.

After you move the folder containing the files that constitute the target Virtual Machine just run (double-click on) the .vmx config file and load it in VMware Player.  You can then remove the other entry from the Favorites list.

  • How can I create a virtual machine

Should I create a virtual machine from a boot camp partition or install Windows XP from an existing file?  Help!

I did a little research on the website of Apple, and the marketing point of view, they have a sort of gloss over the fact that you need a Windows install with Boot Camp.  Here is a Knowledge Base article that makes it a little more clear.  I can see if you look how Apple sells Boot Camp (and Fusion or Parallels also) the need for a Windows installation disc is kind of lost in the noise.  If Photoshop is the only thing that you think you will need Windows to consider that a Windows install disc will probably cost you about $100.  While Boot Camp offers you the best performance under Windows Me, it is inconvenient to keep restart the machine in Mac OS X or Windows as needed.  Fusion or Parallels meets the needs most (I think that most needs except for gamers) and is much more convenient, but it is an another $35 à $50 or more on top of the purchase of Windows. That's why I suggest just buying a copy of Mac in Photoshop if that's all that you'll need Windows.

Make no mistake that you are now several computers also with Boot Camp, Fusion or Parallels.  Llke maintenance common Windows defrag, backups must be done any program installation you chose to use.  In my case I have to use some applications only available under Windows for work, and I prefer Quicken on Windows to its ' equivalent of Mac (they are not the same program) so I use Fusion.  If it wasn't for these needs I will try to be just a Mac user.

If you receive a great picture that you can't display, you will need to change and resize yourself. You do this with Outlook Express.

You can use paint and resize the image to a smaller size.
Or you can use download PowerToys, which has an Image Resizer utility.

  • How to connect to a virtual machine remotely.

How to connect from my PC (windows xp) homepage to my PC(windows xp) desktop with a virtual machine.

I want to connect to this virtual machine from home. How to do this? What are the steps?

    Thank you.

    Hello

When you configure the virtual computing, r put his network card to use the host adapter.

In this way, the virtual machine will get the IP address of the router and will basically act as if the Chickadee is an independent computer in the network.

As long as the host computer and the virtual computer on and don't go to sleep, you can connect to each on its own through the network.

    or on the Internet.

the text got too big and I don't know how to make small new

You may need to change your DPI settings. See the link below:

Make the text on the screen larger or smaller
    http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows-Vista/make-the-text-on-your-screen-larger-or-smaller
You can make text and other items, such as the icons on your screen easier to see by making them bigger. This by increasing the dots per inch (DPI) scale. You can also decrease the DPI scale to make text and other items on your screen smaller, so that more information fits on the screen.

If at the end you can not click on the button 'OK' because it is hidden, press your 'Enter' key (OK is defined as the default value).
