  Well, that's the whole issue of blend modes - they mix the two values in pixels. The only way to change the behavior would be to also change the bottom layer. In your case, several copies of the text tinted different colors and where the modes in different opacities of merger should do the trick. Sometimes there is no one-click solution to achieve a specific look.

  I've seen an effect on someone's business card I want to learn how to create. Of course, having just a physical card in my hand gives me no clue as to how it was done.
