How to migrate from Windows XP to Windows 7 non-destructively?

How to migrate from Windows XP to Windows 7 to non-destructively?... meaning is there a way to do this without backup data (on the XP disk), the Windows 7 upgrade and then restore the XP backup data?

Moreover, since the structures of folders (I am told are slightly different) XP and Windows 7 where can I restore the data from?

for example where my Documents from XP to go on the side of Windows 7? and so on... there at - it a 'table of equivalence' for this?

Thank you.

The upgrade to Windows XP?

Please read these instructions carefully and completely before you begin installing Windows 7: there are important steps that you must follow to upgrade your PC from Windows XP to Windows 7 in order to preserve your files and settings.

Before you begin, you'll need to backup all your data to an external storage device, and you will need all the installation discs for the programs that you want to keep. Please make sure that you have an external hard drive (see details below).

More detailed instructions are available at windows.microsoft.com/upgrade-windows-xp. Here are the basic steps.

1. start Windows Upgrade Advisor (windows.microsoft.com/upgradeadvisor) to see if there are known issues that may affect the installation and the question of whether you should install the version of 32 or 64 bit Windows 7.

2 back up your files and settings on an external hard drive using Windows Easy Transfer (windows.microsoft.com/windows-easy-transfer). If you do not have an external hard drive, you will not be able to use Windows Easy Transfer. Alternatively, you can copy the files you want to keep on a USB stick, CD or DVD.

3. you will need to manually reinstall your programs, such as Microsoft Office, after I installed Windows 7. Gather the installation for your programs and all partner/license product key discs. You may be able to download programs from the Internet. For example, Windows Live Messenger can be installed from the download.live.com/messenger.

4. Insert the Windows 7 DVD in your PC. When asked "which type of installation you want. Click on "Custom (advanced)."

5. when Windows 7 is installed, use Windows Easy Transfer to restore your files and settings.

If you are not comfortable Windows 7 installation, check with a local retail or the services of the PC company store to see if they offer upgrade services.

  • my hp mini 210-1041-nr needs migrate from windows xp to another new.

Hello. I'm new here and I really want to know if you could help me to learn how I could change the OS of my mini 2101041NR hp, because I received a message from windows my pc will not be taken in charge by the essencial windows security because the version of xp won't be supported for this tool. I want to know if there is a version of a new operating system that I use now and how I could replace it. Thank you very much!

Here are the specifications of your computer of HP Mini 210-1041NR. According to these specifications, it seems that your computer meets the minimum requirement for installing Windows 7 32 bit. Please download and run the Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor to confirm this before installing Windows 7. You can buy a copy of Windows 7 32 bit with a valid Microsoft COA and product key to install Windows 7.

If you have not already done so, please create your personal set of discs of HP recovery at this time.

You must use the version of BIOS F.24 before the upgrade to Windows 7.

Here is the page of PC HP Mini 210-1041NR drivers for your computer. HP provides Windows XP and Windows 7 32-bit drivers for your computer.

  • I'm trying to migrate from Windows 2000 to Windows XP, with all updates.

original title: sharing fails file of Windows XP Home edition

I'm trying to migrate from W2K to Windows XP Home edition (Pro/SP3 with all current updates from today ' hui).  My network has several computers with the help of a working group.  I noticed that WXP defines what is called "Simple file sharing" (SFS) that did not exist in W2K.  However, I think that my W2K installation was equivalent to what we call SFS.  What I shared with readers and only granted the permission reading for everyone.  My migration technique involves the use of multiple bootable media to create the Windows XP Home edition system without changing anything on W2K systems.  The I want to share files on separate partitions of the system drive / start / we.  These data partitions are the same drive letters on all systems.  Sharing works as expected in all cases, except that the new system of Windows XP Home edition won't file to other systems (clients).  All client systems receive the same result which is a message access denied as follows:

\\computer_name\share_name is not accessible.  You might not have permission to use this network resource.  ...

Not enough server storage is available to process this command.

On the new system that is unable to use the files, the event log contains a message that says the following:

The "irpstacksize" server configuration setting is not enough for the server to use a local device.  Please increase the value of this parameter.

I found a number of items on this site about IRPStackSize.  An inspection of all computers reveals this registry key is not set on any of my systems.  This includes the W2K running on the same computer systems that are capable of serving the same files that fail on Windows XP Home edition, with no problems.  Any of those articles gives no justification for what is an appropriate use for the IRPStackSize value.  Moreover, some articles describe a situation where arbitrarily increase the size works for a short period, but does not seem to be a sustainable solution.  In addition, there is a range of valid values, and some articles describe that max is achieved without solving the problem.

Therefore, I am skeptical about the idea that there is a real solution.  Can anyone provide an explanation on why specifying a key IRPStackSize is going to help (or not)?  If Yes, what is the right value?

    1. it is not necessary to change the character set of the database.

    2. Yes, you can migrate if the database version is different with rman. Yes, you can start the process between 10.2.01 on windows to 11.2.0.2 on linux

but remember one thing during the migration with rman-platform the Archives for the windows platform can be applied to the linx platform and vice versa to recover. If you need to take backup of database using time when no activity is performed, and no change in the database which happens.
