  Here are the steps to change the ownership and permissions of files and folders:

  1. right click on the file or folder, click Properties, and then click the Security tab.

  2. click on advanced and then click the owner tab.

  3. click on edit and then do one of the following:

  ·    To change the owner to a user or group that is not listed, click other users and groups, and in the box type
  the object name to select (examples), type the name of the user or group, and then click OK.

  ·    To change the owner to a user or a group is listed in the change owner to box, click the new owner.

  4. If you want to take ownership of the contents of the folder, select the replace the owner of sub containers and objects check box.

  5. click OK and then click Yes when you receive the following message is displayed:

  You are not allowed to read the contents of directory folder name. You want to replace the directory
  permissions with permissions granting you full control?

  All permissions will be replaced if you click Yes.

  Note folder_name is the name of the folder you want to take charge.

  6. click on OK and then reapply the permissions and security settings that you want for the folder and its contents.

  I used my MacBook with administrator account because I got it. (over 4 years)

  I guess that there is a problem or annoying with it, so I made a new user with normal privileges account today.

  But I have no idea how to make to move all the files, including the Aperture library, films, documents, music in iTunes, download and so on for the new directories of account without losing storage space. (which Directory directory to which? that's it?) I think I need to move and delete files that I can't know that they should be deleted so that the files don't not to occupy the SSD.

  I hope someone can help out me.

  Run for the most part not Administrator protects you from yourself.

  The best thing to do is use the new account as the account admin, then demote your current account at the standard. Just make sure that you promote the new account before you downgrade your current account.

  On each screen of the user in users and groups, check or uncheck the box that says "allow user to administer this computer."

  Im running Windows 7 Ultimate edition. What should I do to solve this problem: too often, when I try to delete, rename or move a file/s or folder/s so on my desktop, documents, library, or anywhere with a typical, it should create a custom folder, I get an error message telling me that I can not remove this file or folder because it is open in another program. It drives me crazy because I don't know what the heck, or when the devil this folder doesn't exist anywhere else on my laptop. I can only think that this may have something to do with the share on the network? Correct me if I'm wrong (please), but there seems to be too many titles listed under users?   When you have the problem that happens, open the Task Manager.
  Then, you can view the processes that are open and see if the program or file is open by another process. If so, then select end task.
  Then return to Windows Explorer and see if you can remove the file now.

  You may also be able to delete the file in Mode without failure.

  Ok. We got it to work.

  In the folder tab property shares.

  Click on 'Share' - choose people to share with, click on the drop down tab, select 'All', click 'Add', in the table below, to the right of everyone, click on the "Permission level", we choose 'read '. Then, in the background, we click on "share". The next dialog box is 'your folder is shared', click 'done '.

  Click on 'Advanced sharing', [x] check share this folder. Click on 'OK '.

  Then, click on 'OK' to the folder property.

  Then, your folder is shared on your network working group of Win 7.

  You have access to the files on each computer in the another computer - can you open and read them?  In other words, the network connection is working properly and you have the permissions of files and folders?  If this isn't the case, after return and we will address this as a separate issue.

  If so all you need to do is open Exploere Windows on a machine, and map a drive to the C:\ drive on the other machine.  Here's how to map a drive to another computer: http://www.vista4beginners.com/Map-Network-Drive.  You "got to do thi on the other machine if you want to share files in the two directios.

  Once done, open Windows Explorer and go to the drive where, the file to be copied, right-click on it and select copy.  Then go back to Homepage Windows computer and select the drive where you want to copy the file (in this case, the mapped network drive).  Go whenever you want to copy and click the folder where you want that he stored and right-click and select Paste.  The file will be copied.  That's all there is to it.  Once the mapped drives copy really works exactly as it does if you have just one computer that you are handling.

• HD is dead on my Dell Inspiron XP SP3 transferred old 4Yr no external HD files. How to move files to my new computer which has Windows 7.

  I just bought a new Inspiron desktop computer that has Windows 7 on it. Many old computer files have been corrupted, however, I was able to save many audio, video, Real Player files, PDF and photo.  I exported my FireFox bookmarks to HTML for the external hard drive.

  I can't understand how to transfer all the information from my external hard drive to the new computer with Windows 7. My level of computer knowledge is advanced beginner. I'm sorry to ask such a simple question I minor dyslexia. However the video, I look at all speaks to move from one computer to another and downloading transfer program.

  Also, I can't put music in my music files, however, once I know how to transfer to my new Win 7 computer where would I put my Real Player downloads, Favorites Fire Fox, so they find themselves in the right place. I tried the Itunes file to transfer from the external hard drive to the new computer where I had downloaded Itunes and it did not work.

  You can use the copy / paste command to copy your files from the external hard drive to the folders such as Documents, pictures, videos in Windows 7.

  When you copy and paste a file, you make a copy of the original file that you can then modify independently of the original file. If you copy and paste a file to a different location on your computer, it's a good idea to give it a different name, so that you'll remember which file is new and which file is the original.

  To copy and paste a file:

  1. Open the location that contains the file you want to copy.

  2. Right click on the file and then click on copy.

  3. Open the location where you want to store the copy.

  4. Right-click on an empty space within the location and then click on paste. The copy of the original file is now stored in the new location.

  5. Select multiple files or folders

     There are several ways to select multiple files or folders.

     • To select a consecutive group of files or folders, click the first item, press on and hold down the SHIFT key and then click the last item.

     • To select multiple files or folders that are near each other, drag the mouse pointer to create a selection around the outside of all the items you want to include.

     • To select nonconsecutive files and folders, press on and hold down the CTRL key and then click each item you want to select.

     • To select all files or folders in a window, the tool bar, click on organize, and then click Select all. If you want to exclude one or more items of your choice, press on and hold down the Ctrl key and then click on the items.

  LR5 will not allow me to move the raw files or folders that I have stored on an external drive on my drive hard or inside the disc itself.  He said that «there was an error copying files to the destination...» ».  I think the problem may be with the Toshiba v73600-c external disk formatting.   Anyone installed a utility, unless LR5 is one such utility.  The Toshiba drive was bought as compatible with Mac/PC.  What I didn't know, is that it was read only for Mac.
