  Hi all

  I was wondering how to move files to the system folder. With the update to El Capitan and the former program is no longer works and the developer suggests moving some files on the system folder that should fix it, but even if an administrator account I don't have write access to the system-> library folder where they need to go. Any help would be appreciated.

  In short: you do not have. The folder/System is only for Apple.  The new protections in El Capitan make it impossible for you to place the files.

  This is what the folder/library for: install additional components to the system, but keeping them separated from the basic installation.

  What software are you trying to run? What files we told you to move? I'm curious to know what type of developer will tell you to put the files in / System.

  My catalog is now about 50 GB and I want to decrease its size so that it takes up less space on my hard drive, and more important, so my backups and restorations do not take as long.    Files are not to be modified in the future then why keep saving them?  If I move the files on an external drive using files offline, copy/move files on the removable disk will be backup items these files as well as files on my C drive when I backup my catalog?

  If not, can I move files to a new catalogue and catalogue of dangerous data (such as albums, tags, etc.)?

  I used this option once when I saved on my XP computer and restored to my Vista machine.  It took me a long time to get rid of extra files generated by Vista.

  If you're moving from XP to Vista and your records are under C:\Documents and Settings\, Vista will create aliases to your user folders to maintain compatibility (since Vista has a different naming convention for the files of the user).  Vista itself will not create additional folders, but programs like the PES can be confused by having two different names for the same file.

  I now store everything (files catalog and photos) in a folder with the same name under C:\ on both computers.

  As long as it is not under C:\Documents And Settings, then use the original location option to restore to the same exact path.

  The option new location / Restore Original Folder Structure will preserve your folder hierarchy, but create very long paths by adding in the root files, for example \users\ellis\pictures and it is difficult for many people to collapse these unnecessarily added files.

  Hi Jessica,.

  There seems to be a confusion of terms here: the catalog is where LR stores all of its information (that your designated as LR library in your original post).

  While you were on the road, did you use LR to add keywords to photos, or have you used another tool? If you have used LR, you already have a catalog on the laptop, which you can then import into your main LR catalog (using import to catalogue option in the file menu). Let us know if you get stuck anywhere.

  Hello.  Just got off the phone with OWC.  The fix was to use the DISK UTILITY to reformat the OWC by Partition, not delete). I everything copied on my OWC drive to another drive, partitioned the OWC disk with a single partition, copy the files to the OWC and this is!  Premiere Pro CC 2014 can now see my drive from OWC.  (My OWC drive is connected to MBP via a firewire 800 cable and an adapter of 800 to shot of lightning.)

  (BTW, I had to upgrade to version PP CC 2014 before PP could access AVCHD files from a Canon Vixia.)  Apple seems to have "conditioned" AVCHD files in such a way that the earlier version of PP creative cloud could not access the media.  )

  LR will not move files on its own, you must do it yourself, dragging them to the destination folder you want (in the left panel of the library module).

  "Handset" is just a simple automator app that takes the contents of the folder of the folder "toCombine" and adds them in the order I want which is X > Y > Z as page 1, 2, and 3. However, I see fluctuations in the order that I continue to work loop while watching the toCombine file, resulting in Z > Y > X and stop randomly.

  I use Windows XP Media Edition and made a private folder.  I saved the file at a certain point and then later made the public folder again.  Then, I moved the folder to the shared folder.  I then deleted the user who had originally the private folder that are associated with.  The computer recently crashed and I had to reformat the HD & restore the OEM System.  When I restored the backup files I can access the folder, but the files say access denied.   If I bought a used computer, no matter who previously owned the
  first thing I could do with it would be to reinstall the operating
  system itself. You don't know how the computer has been maintained,
  which has been improperly installed, what's missing, what virus and
  There may be spyware, etc. I would not live with someone
  other errors and problems, possibility of kiddy p0rn, etc. and I
  would not recommend anyone else to do.

  Your choice of course, but in my opinion, you're playing with fire if you
  do not reinstall Windows properly. Even if you buy a copy.

  You can drag individual; or just select and drag as a group by holding down the Option key for you key keep on #1 Drive until you are sure that they all copied over correctly to Drive #2...  Or you can select all/copy/paste.    Do not erase the files from the first drive until you are certain that they all copied properly.

  Just updated to Sierra of MacOS and I try to use Siri to search for files on my computer and as the title suggests, Siri spitting not files on my external drives (both connected via USB 3 on the back of the iMac). I tried to turn on Siri/off, Spotlight is not all excluded files, I tried signing in/out of my iCloud account. I tried to create a new user account on my Mac (which will not find anything). Permissions on my external hard drive seem ok: read/write is enabled for me, all the world and admin; "ignore permissions" is turned on.

  I'm starting to think that this is a design limitation of the software. Someone else using Siri able to search for files on your external hard drives?

  As near as I can tell, unlike the Finder and Spotlight, search Siri does not check for external drives.
